Partly, but the threat of FAA reprisal over a minor issue is very real. Anyone who doubts that can see what happened to Bob Hoover over literally NOTHING.
We all make mistakes. If an error is not wilful then usually it is a debrief item between the crew and you move on. That's part of being a professional.

I happen to be one of the guys who didn't believe this story when it first came out and cautioned my friends to wait for the facts to emerge instead of jumping the gun. "A rumor gets half way around the world before the truth gets its shoes on."
People are too casual when it comes to saying things that can wrongly harm a person's life. You and I have both been on the receiving end of that. It's not fun. But that ALSO goes both ways
Jumpseat N*zis are a real thing and I can't stand them. I have more important things to do than worry about what the person sitting behind me is plotting for my career demise. I want my jumpseaters to be a teammate and an asset to help me get the jet from A to B safely not a spy that's going to run to management or the Feds if I make a minor mistake that CRM is designed to catch.

@@LegacyDriver1 yup. That's why I said both sides are wrong here. But this should have been handled in house via jumpseat committees. It should not be a public spectacle.

On the Yak-130 ejection, second seat was definitely out of the envelope. Worst thing in the world for ejections in rolling aircraft, is someone is going to end up pointed in the wrong direction. Yes, ACES seats are pretty much all self righting, post clearance, but they need some altitude to do the righting in. He also didn't have time, if at all to get a fully opened chute.
Gonky, Yes, in your world there was F-4J's and N's (and S's) but that was a Navy lettering thing, the most common J was built at the same time as the F-4E for the USAF, but was more akin to the F-4 C/D as there was never a gun on the Navy planes. Also some letters were for foreign country uses, but the same as the USAF E, or similar. The F model was an E for the Germans, with smokeless engines and a fuel tank number 7 as a ballast tank in the tail as the main mechanical differences. Bottom line, the E model was the last model built at the end of production.
On the PERS-43, experienced a detailer situation myself twice in the USAF (Randolph AFB) and came out ahead in both assignments to retire at 20. Of course, that was back in the late 80's, everybody was for the mission, now it's more they are into trying to shape the branches to match political agendas, and those that do not want to "toe the (Ideal military as per their Ivy League eyes) line", they would rather dispense with them. In other words they want human drones as well as nonhuman drones to make the perfect push button force. I would look above the PERS(AFMPC) system and see what their bosses, behind the scenes, mission directives are.
WOMBAT, Thank you for your presence, Sir, you bring a lot of fresh perspectives to the discussions. Thank you Mover and Gonky (and Princess Luna).

Great, insightful and fun show as usual you guys c= I don't usually chime in but during the mental health minute Mover talked about thinking what we would personally and or collectively gain as a society before deciding if we should be siding with, or at least justifying mob mentality
I think that, not only from a mental health perspective, but also existentially as to who we are and what we make ourselves to be, generally speaking when it comes to personal decisions and choices, tying what we consider to be good or bad relative to material outcomes more so than what those decisions mean and say about who we are as a person, can be unhealthy - because that can lead to the sort of thinking where one ties their self worth or even who they are to those external things instead of who they really are and I think that can lead to a lot of bad things
Just what I think though, always enjoy watching you guys and listening to your insights on stuff as well as other things c= have fun you guys can't wait for the next episode ♥

That's the main reason we are a Republic and not a pure democracy. The latter is mob rule.
Or as someone once put it: Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on who's for dinner.
As for the crowd... I noticed that in Scripture the crowd is always wrong. Even if you are not a person of faith it is still an interesting phenomenon.

Half the reason why the F-4 was in the ROK air force for so long is because NK never got new jets past the Mig-29. Old as they are, the South Korean F-4 was only ever going to be hunting its natural prey. The F-16 is near overkill against North Korea, to say nothing about the F-15 or the F-35.
The other half is because the US, for some reason, allowed South Korea to do tests on the F-4 that they wouldn't allow on any of the newer jets. The KGGB, which is Korea's JDAM-ER, can be fired from the F-4 but not the F-16/15/35. South Korea was also testing ECM pods and other such tech on the F-4.
A lot of weird people out there spreading misinformation about the ROKAF just because they still operate F4s and F5s and yet ignore that the ROKAF has one of the biggest non-US fleets of F-16/15/35s. And unlike some other countries, they actually have those F-35s delivered and not just on order.

    • @orestes1984
      @orestes1984 4 месяца назад

Another part of it is simply the close relations with “Korea” after World War II. It led it to that way and the F4 was the best thing available at the time.
It still wasn’t a bad plane when the US navy retired it. The airframes were simply aged out.

Mover's comments about the toxicity of the industry is sadly true. It is really concerning to me that many in the industry seem to be reverting back to that normalization of deviance attitude that plagued commercial aviation for a long time. Not just flight deck crews, though you could certainly argue they're the most toxic, but manufacturers (cough Boeing cough), ATC, and even the FAA itself. There have been so many close calls lately and it is only because there are well trained, experienced personnel willing to speak up when they see even the slightest issue that we've averted disaster. We need more people speaking up, not less, because it is only a matter of time before the close miss turns into a hit.
I saw a very e-famous former wide body Captain harassing a current wide body Captain for reposting that old video of the Russian Airbus taking off with like 2 inches of snow packed on its wings and saying if you see this, as a passenger, speak up against it. The former Captain was calling it fake and clickbait and saying it never happens and leads to hysteria. Yeah, it doesn't happen (often) because most of us learned from the dozens of times it did happen and it killed people. The crew in the video didn't learn, luckily they lived. Next time they may not be so lucky. Like Gonky said, I'd rather have my career ruined and be alive because I spoke up than be a smoking hole in the ground because I didn't.

Buzz wasn't actually flying. He was just in the back seat.(of the F-16) Also, he was given controls in the, F-38 Talon(when they allowed him to be in the, F-38) only AFTER take-off. Also, Buzz didn't land the, F-38 either.

Tbh, Malaysia's best interest, given their inventory, would be to go for the FA-50M and onwards Kaan or just Super Hornets. And, TAI already has a branch in Malaysia to help with the LMS project (which they are about to sign the agreement with Turkey) and other such work. They have already signed an agreement for the ANKA-S (mentioned for Satcom capability). But I am frankly not optimistic about the Kaan for RMAF. I don't think it makes sense for Malaysia to opt for an aircraft that is said to cost 100-150 million dollars per unit, not because it is not good for them, but because the budget would be more costly than the FA-50M or Super Hornets
