    Before I saw any images, leaving our planet was my journey through this music. Though imagined, the view still enchants with the same clarity as at first.

    They sound even better live and the synthesizers sound incredible, getting those 3 guys back together to me would be just as big as Steve Perry returning to Journey or Sammy Hagar touring with Van Halen.

    Listening to the horns here kind of reminds me of Aaron Copland's piece known as Fanfare for the Common Man. That piece was modernized by Emerson, Lake and Palmer, with the typical rock band bombast for which Keith Emerson was known.

      This overall performance would have made for a great movie soundtrack. Just as good as many things composed by John Williams.

    Cierto.

    I was surprised to see Arnie Roth playing that opening synth figure on "Dancing Flames." I wonder if he did that on the record? IV was recorded in 1981 and I know they had guitar synthesizers by then (King Crimson used them on _Discipline_) so I guess maybe . . .
    I was kind of sad when these guys went really digital: what made me really like II and III was the blend of analog synthesizers with the organic sounds of acoustic drums and Baroque instruments.

      But only in 7 and the last one they went digital. A pitty Chip does not compose/arrange new material anymore :(

    The live Christmas tours/shows have been great but what about concerts from the original LP's say 1-8? Be great to see those during the rest of the year! People don't realize what else you guys did before the Christmas era unless they are exposed to it!!!

    Back in the 90's Steamroller was playing over multi-track studio backing tracks in the Christmas concert we attended. Does Mr. Davis still use multi-track backing tracks live?

    • @snwbrdr65
      @snwbrdr65 8 лет назад +1

      +James Sero their classic version of Silent Night took on a warbling quality due to the solo violin playing over the studio backing track, going in and out of tune. It wasn't pleasant. Back then paying high dollars for a live concert and getting studio backing tracks we felt ripped off. Part of the magic of Steamroller was hearing acoustic instruments with synths. Roland electronic drums don't come close to a live acoustic kit especially when there is no kick drum. And the big screen video had a gameshow atmosphere. Might as well stay home and listen to the studio tracks from the comfort of your own couch, less cheesy.

    • @spikesurge83
      @spikesurge83 8 лет назад

      +James Sero Well said!!! I've been arguing this point forever, also take into account every time he announces a new album its got maybe a new track or two (if your lucky) and people think its all new when it's nothing more than a rehash of this stuff you already bought. I got steamrolled (no pun intended) when I bought the music of the spears album and I was pretty pissed off LOL! In my opinion put out something all new or just walk away entirely because quite frankly he's out of ideas.
