Maybe the first synth where I would happily use the presets. Maybe just drop the reverb mix a little.
I think I'm totally sold on this thing. I've just been perusing the market, looking at Behringer's reissues and other stuff, but I want presets so I can make crazy patches and recall them in a live setting.
Absolutely stunning and very surprisingly functional for a "budget" Dreadbox synth.

15:58 I wish more synth menus did this: when you scroll up/down, the highlight stays centred, and doesn't jump all the way to the top/bottom so you can't see what comes next. By keeping it centred like this, you get a 1 or 2 item look-ahead when you scroll.

Has Dreadbox ever produced something not desirable? I mean some are more desirable than others, but man, I'd love everything they have made. They all sound wonderful... And that Sinevibes effects engine(s) are just super nice on this. I'm glad I pre-ordered; this review reinforces it.
Nick, that stuff you showed about the Amp & Filter time and how it divides is something I didn't realize it did and that is a super cool point for performance. I love massive reverbs, but those short ones sound creative....That tone at 26:50 is super awesome! Same with 27:44!
I still prefer the Erebus for some of the hands on stuff, but what a great little synth. They made great choices and thanks to you I know more about it will produce. I can't wait to get my hands on it.

I love how it sounds, but I have to say I found their earlier stuff more beautiful visually. This look sort of gives off a late 80s Gameconsole feel, whereas the older stuff always had a more gritty and industrial look, almost soviet-military style. Killer sounding synth, but too menu-divey for me. Even simple menus force me to stop and think and process things visually, which takes me out of the zone.
I don't get along with patch memory either, since my whole thing with synths is to build the sounds as I play. Touch a knob that hasn't been reset yet and it jumps to a different value and messes up my jam.
Guess I'm just too old for modern synths... fortunately Behringer is putting out old fashioned ones faster than I can collect them, so that'll keep me busy for a while. :)

i've had mine for a few days, and yes u are in the screen alot for modulations and fx, but mostly its one page deep, u scroll left and right, and use the sliders for the parameters .. and when you do switch pages for some parameters its only one page deep and pretty clear.. so it's not that bad really
the main issue i find is there is no catchup/relative values for the knobs and sliders - so when ya switching from one page to another - the parameters jump, with obviously huge changes in sound .. thats annoying at times

    • @gnarlysoundscapes7210
      @gnarlysoundscapes7210 4 года назад +1

No way! Monosynth is simply it's own instrument with it's own play technique. One hand on the keys, the other on the knobs morphing the sound.
Polysynth is a totally different affair. Hours of meticulous sound design before hand, then both hands on the keys during play.
Both are fine instruments, but very different and not interchangeable. People just get confused because they both look the same.

@@meekmanuel1269 lol If that's your take on each synth's unique sound characteristic, you're into to the wrong hobby.
Synths are like guitars or any other instrument. They all have the same fundamental components and functionality, but there is subtle (or not so subtle) variation between different ones. An MS20 sounds different from a Minimoog, a Strat sounds different from a Les Paul, a Hohner harmonica sounds different from a Seydel... but only when you've developed an ear for the instrument. To the average listener who doesn't play, a guitar is a guitar, a synth is a synth, and a harmonica is a harmonica.
You seem to be an average listener of synths. There's nothing wrong with that, but don't crap on people who can hear the differences between instruments just because you can't.

The detune knob max amount is 24 semitones and I find this not enough for some Filter FM effects (5 octaves would be great)
Is it possible to achieve that amount through modulators? Maybe Sustain level to VCO2 pitch?

I bought one yesterday, under £350, bargain. Obvs one gets a synth like this for the analogue parts, but that reverb is bloody lovely. Also picked up the reissue Erebus, and it seems promising but my first thought was that it's a shame it doesn't have the verb that Typhon has.
