We're delighted to see our cloud effect among your favorites! Thanks, Tim. BTW when the grain count goes negative, the grain samples are played in reverse. This becomes more audible as you feed faster, more percussive sounds into this effect.
Beautiful work, Sinevibes. A huge part of an instant classic piece of gear. I love my Typhon, and the “production values” of your effects algorithms are an inseparable part of that. 👌🏼👊🏼💥✊🏼
You always set a nice tone in your videos. I've bought and used the Typhon when I was doing research on which one to buy next and watched your original video on the Typhon & it sold me. What we DON'T usually see is what we see you doing. You're STILL using it, making videos on it. It's a testament on your sincerity in the first place and, in today's world, that great to see.
I really like how complete and demonstrative your videos are. I now have a pre-order for a Behringer 2600 from watching your RUclips. I have a feeling that being subscribed to your channel will give me GAS! Lol.
My Typhon arrived. Scrolling through the presets, some of the most gorgeous analog sounds I've ever heard. You're quite right that it's all too easy for many makers today to stamp "ANALOG" on a synth case, and it kind of ends there. Dreadbox certainly has Beauty Baked In.
Problem is that a boutique size outfit like Dreadbox probably doesn’t have the time, money or manpower to develop and build a poly version. It’s not like they are Korg or Roland where they can snap fingers and have 50 people nosedive into a project.
@@entropybentwhistle that was my first thought. My second was, Modal Electronics (a similar sized outfit) have managed it with the Argon and Cobalt synths. It would take an entrepreneurial leap, but Dreadbox have the reputation and customer base to succeed. IMO.
I love your channel, Tim. It's great you show us your creative processes instead of the usual demo no talking approach. I've learned a lot about the Typhon from you and it has cemented my decision to buy one
Incredibly happy to have run across your channel. Your descriptions, sounds, and demos have given me new inspiration! I am likewise blown away with amount of value in this synth. NOTHING touches it for the money...
Thank for this beautiful ending. Couldn't agree more to the Typhon Update Review and the Dave Matthews Band Hommage Song. Btw I would say you are one of the best looking Synth Guys on RUclips right now. ;-)

I enjoy watching your videos very much and appreciate sharing your thoughts and tips, thank you! I love Typhon and recently added NYX v2, Dreadbox makes some amazing sounding analog synths (and affordable)
Yet another excellent video. Thanks, Tim! You really know how to show a synth at its best and make it a "desirable" purchase! Oh my poor wallet - still recovering from the system 100 videos!!!!
First I’d like to say that your video was one of the best detailed description of this little gem. Had mine few a few months now and I thought about a second unit. This video here proves that, it’s not a bad idea. Hopefully Dreadbox will release a poly version soon.
I like the way you covered the cloud effect. I have owned the Typhon for a couple months now after buying it during a sale and ended up enjoying it more than I expected. It would be nice to see a video on just creating sequences rather than the effects etc. Though they did add midi input I think for it, I feel like I have to think things out in my head if I don’t have a keyboard handy.
This is such an awesome synthesiser Tim. It's so harmonically rich. And that split left and right delay is simply awesome. Thanks for your music. You have a lovely studio my friend. Not that it's really relevant. But I finally have a synthesiser that's not made in China lol
Hey Tim - some really nice sequences there, the Typhon sounds great. You must really like it to have two! :-) The only two identical bits of gear I have are two Music Thing's Radio Music modules. Not totally sure what I'm going to do with them both :-) but I really love the random radio-type broadcasts they produce. I should get back to writing more tunes :-)
Both your voice and the music are a treat to listen to. Insightful and inspiring. Sadly, the tiny screen on the Typhon makes it unusable for me and my bad eyesight though. Sounds lovely though.
Well, I did pull the trigger on the Typhon after all and I have to say - one of the best purchases in my "career" as a musician. I have to use a magnifying glass to fully utilize the screen, but since I don't do sound design for hours on end, that's an inconvenience I can live with. On the other hand, having such immediate access to many parameters through the sliders has been very inspiring. And just as I was thinking my setup was complete, the mad lads at Dreadbox unveil the Nymphes - which looks like the Typhon's polyphonic sister. Acute GAS. :)
Lovely sounding synth! Not a bad price either, for what you get. Sound and capability-wise, it reminds me of the mono voices on A4, though Typhon has more varied and arguably better effects imo. Would love to have a poly or quad version.
14:14 Oh man, that THROAT preset sounds great. I would love to know how you made that one. I have a Typhon and still getting my head around it. Such an amazing piece of gear. I absolutely love Dreadbox stuff.
I’m glad I watched this, because I am clearly a number of updates behind. The last one Dreadbox notified me of was v2.0.2 in Dec ‘20, and that seemed to constitute little more than an apology for not implementing midi over usb. Has that been done yet I wonder? While it is a marvellous little box it is of very little use without midi over usb... Edit: having used the Typhon a LOT in the last few weeks, I take back the last statement- it not only has din midi in/out of course, the onboard sequencer and modulation fx more than make up for the lack of midi over usb- especially as, unlike some hardware, when it says 80bpm it MEANS 80bpm, and it manually syncs to a drum track (say) in AUM pretty much for ever.
Pretty sure this is the synth i'm getting next, thanks for showing the updates - it looks like it's gotten a lot of love since launch, i wonder if it will continue to be updated?
Little anecdote from your excellent video: 12:10 That is what I thought that those two Typhons were bought not at the same time, as we can see here 3:03 the top plate is hold by screws of different sizes. Kind of insignificant detail, but I found this "discovery" funny. More important: Daisy-chaining is an awesome feature, :) Can we chain as many as we want?
In theory you can chain up to 16 as there are 16 midi channels to assign. I guess in practice there may be a degradation, an increasing lag in the signal for example, it would be a great to have 16 typhons to try it out! :)
I've owned the Typhon since the first ones shipped to the U.S. I thought I would go gangbusters on it, but instead I've struggled with it. I've found it difficult to relate to. I think it's the UI with that tiny screen. I have poor eyesight, and that just makes it a pain to use. I'm sure I would prefer a keyboard version with more of a "knob per function" layout and a much bigger screen that you used primarily for effects and sequencing.
Great video Tim, thank you! I have a couple questions for anyone who happens to know. - Can you sequence other synths from the Typhon or does it only send midi clock out? - Can you change patches via midi? For example, do you think Digitakt could be used to remotely change the patches on the Typhon?
Would love to see more videos with two Typhons. When two Typhons are linked is there a way to change the oscillator pitch of the 2nd Typhon like a 3rd oscillator?
Question. Many people incl. Stimming confirmed that the Typhon is noisy when wanting to play live sets. Is the noise issue still a thing on the Typhon?
The fact that the synth is powered by USB can introduce ground loop noise issues. The synth does not have balanced outs which is a big shame as these would solve the problem. If you have ground loop issues then a small device called a "hum destroyer" can help but it all depends on your specific setup. Some people have also complained of high frequency electrical interference coming from the screen of the Typhon but I have not had those problems myself.
@@TimShoebridge did the latest 4.1 update fix the hum ? "3. Audio over USB -Typhon gets recognised as Audio/USB device. This feature enables Typhon to act as an audio input and be recorded from a computer directly without the use of a sound card. This feature got implemented to support the previous described feature so as the user doesn’t have to connect the physical audio out to his sound card, and so on create a ground loop, which cause a constant buzzing at Typhon’s audio."
Hello Tim! Love to see your reviews. Keep going on it! Howcyou feel to buying typhon as my first synth for now! I used to have synthesizers, but now I'm starting over. And I'm lonely like both minilogue xd and typhon. Thank you
Hi. Either the Typhon or MXD would be great choices. Obviously with the Typhon at some point you have the complexity of hooking it up to a MIDI controller keyboard of some kind, ideally using MIDI DIN connection since the Typhon uses USB for power. The MXD is polyphonic and has a digital oscillator which extends its use a lot. But the Typhon is very portable, very deep modulation capability, sounds amazing and I think is incredibly good value 👍👍
