We're delighted to see our cloud effect among your favorites! Thanks, Tim. BTW when the grain count goes negative, the grain samples are played in reverse. This becomes more audible as you feed faster, more percussive sounds into this effect.
Great work! Thinking of selling my v2 Erebus for one of these
Beautiful work, Sinevibes. A huge part of an instant classic piece of gear. I love my Typhon, and the “production values” of your effects algorithms are an inseparable part of that. 👌🏼👊🏼💥✊🏼
the cloud sounds realy nice. do you make standlone fx machines too?
@@dankefurnichts Happy to hear that, thanks! We don’t produce any hardware, but we have our effects in plugin format for Mac and Windows
Sinevibes - your effects on these units brought them OVER THE TOP. Amazing stuff!
You always set a nice tone in your videos. I've bought and used the Typhon when I was doing research on which one to buy next and watched your original video on the Typhon & it sold me. What we DON'T usually see is what we see you doing. You're STILL using it, making videos on it. It's a testament on your sincerity in the first place and, in today's world, that great to see.
Couldn’t agree more. Sincerity is the word.
My Typhon arrived. Scrolling through the presets, some of the most gorgeous analog sounds I've ever heard. You're quite right that it's all too easy for many makers today to stamp "ANALOG" on a synth case, and it kind of ends there. Dreadbox certainly has Beauty Baked In.
The relaxed way in which you talk and demonstrate the gear is so welcome in between all the noise on RUclips, thanks a lot.
If I were Dreadbox I would send this man a third one!
make it 5.1
I really like how complete and demonstrative your videos are. I now have a pre-order for a Behringer 2600 from watching your RUclips. I have a feeling that being subscribed to your channel will give me GAS! Lol.
The TUNE parameter on the granular engine is so cool! Great effect.
Such a powerfull synth! 🖤 and i couldn’t agree more about putting all of this into à polyphonic synth!
Problem is that a boutique size outfit like Dreadbox probably doesn’t have the time, money or manpower to develop and build a poly version. It’s not like they are Korg or Roland where they can snap fingers and have 50 people nosedive into a project.
Just a 2x bigger 4 voice box would be amazing.
@@entropybentwhistle that was my first thought. My second was, Modal Electronics (a similar sized outfit) have managed it with the Argon and Cobalt synths. It would take an entrepreneurial leap, but Dreadbox have the reputation and customer base to succeed. IMO.
@@markjeffery3237 The Argon and Cobalt are VA's though. Very different scaling.
@@markjeffery3237 Modal Electronics were already doing synths that cost 10x what the Typhon costs... the 00 series.
Love your videos! And your music as well. Thank you!
Incredibly happy to have run across your channel. Your descriptions, sounds, and demos have given me new inspiration! I am likewise blown away with amount of value in this synth. NOTHING touches it for the money...
Such a beautiful sounding little machine. Really enjoyed the piece at the end!
Thank you for a detailed insight into this amazing little dreadful beast.
What a beauty !!!!
Really cool to see some go deep on this synth. Your affection for it shines through
Great video Tim, I love the sophistication of the tones you create and how they mix together and evolve in your compositions.
good to see your channel doing so well Tim. great sounds!
Great breakdown of the grain/cloud effect. Lovely sound.
Great work Tim. You do such a great job with these reviews, and I need this Dread Box👍.
This was great. Excellent expose and narration.
Dear Tim thanks so much for these Typhon videos - yo've inspired me to get one ordered and it comes tomorrow! G
The 2 together sound amazing with the Roland sequencing them.
I purchased a second Typhon yesterday. I really like this synth thanks to all who took part in its creation.
I just got one off ebay. So excited to get this going. They are SOLD OUT EVERYWHERE. Please do more in the future, would love to see more.
Yet another excellent video. Thanks, Tim! You really know how to show a synth at its best and make it a "desirable" purchase! Oh my poor wallet - still recovering from the system 100 videos!!!!
I enjoy watching your videos very much and appreciate sharing your thoughts and tips, thank you! I love Typhon and recently added NYX v2, Dreadbox makes some amazing sounding analog synths (and affordable)
Great video, as always. Your sounds are so beautiful and so beautifully crafted. You're one of my five favorite synth demo RUclipsrs. Make that #1. Thank you!
ill second that !
Excellent overview of the granular cloud effect. I never used it because I didn’t really understand it. Sounds lovely.
I think this is one of the most cleaver boxes. Massive sounds and ideas in this modestly priced machine. Smarter than most more expensive options.
First I’d like to say that your video was one of the best detailed description of this little gem. Had mine few a few months now and I thought about a second unit. This video here proves that, it’s not a bad idea. Hopefully Dreadbox will release a poly version soon.
Love this synth, Tim! Now I have to get another
Thank for this beautiful ending. Couldn't agree more to the Typhon Update Review and the Dave Matthews Band Hommage Song. Btw I would say you are one of the best looking Synth Guys on RUclips right now. ;-)
Wow ! This bassy patch of the last track is amazing ! Cool synth, it will mostlikely end on my list :D !
This could well be your best demo Tim.Nice work.
Amazing little synth. I was thinking what an amazing keyboard polysynth it would make and you said it! They could call it Typhoon.
Great vid again Tim! I was understandably disheartened too by the lack of midi sync when released, but with these updates, I feel this little beauty may well become a favourite for me again.
Just about to buy one thanks to these videos. New favourite synth youtuber - subbed.
Your original video helped sell me on the Typhon. Still have it and love it after a year!
Love your videos, Tim 💪🏻👍🏻🙏
i encourage any synth enthusiast and or student to stay tuned to this channel..a lot to learn..useful info.

What's I am dreaming in context of Dreadbox is your review of Medusa...
Thank you so much for this episode.
What a great info video on this very unique synth,
I only came across this synth a few days ago , never heard of this company or synth but its what ive been looking for.
Thanks for the effot you put in to this production..

I like the way you covered the cloud effect. I have owned the Typhon for a couple months now after buying it during a sale and ended up enjoying it more than I expected. It would be nice to see a video on just creating sequences rather than the effects etc. Though they did add midi input I think for it, I feel like I have to think things out in my head if I don’t have a keyboard handy.
Beautiful! Thank you!
This is such an awesome synthesiser Tim. It's so harmonically rich. And that split left and right delay is simply awesome. Thanks for your music. You have a lovely studio my friend. Not that it's really relevant. But I finally have a synthesiser that's not made in China lol
Been lookin' at a lot of vids of the Typhon and this has sold it for me finally. All i wanted was midi in for the sequencer!
Thank you for this video!
Love it Tim
Hey Tim - some really nice sequences there, the Typhon sounds great. You must really like it to have two! :-) The only two identical bits of gear I have are two Music Thing's Radio Music modules. Not totally sure what I'm going to do with them both :-) but I really love the random radio-type broadcasts they produce. I should get back to writing more tunes :-)
Oh my this is awesome 👌
Orange/blue color grading... Nice ! The last composition is beautifull.
Nice Look into my eyes cover
!!
Bravo Tim - im deff. getting a second , now ! :-)
Really nice, your patches are so nice, I'd love to see a sound pack to buy.
You're a great composer. 🙏
yesss customs targets are amazing
agree with that too
Great track 👏🏾👏🏾
wonderful tribute to "Crash Into Me" !!
Thanks Tim 👍
Lovely sounding synth! Not a bad price either, for what you get. Sound and capability-wise, it reminds me of the mono voices on A4, though Typhon has more varied and arguably better effects imo. Would love to have a poly or quad version.
A quad version similar to the Vermona PerFourMer would be amazing.
Both your voice and the music are a treat to listen to. Insightful and inspiring. Sadly, the tiny screen on the Typhon makes it unusable for me and my bad eyesight though. Sounds lovely though.
Well, I did pull the trigger on the Typhon after all and I have to say - one of the best purchases in my "career" as a musician. I have to use a magnifying glass to fully utilize the screen, but since I don't do sound design for hours on end, that's an inconvenience I can live with. On the other hand, having such immediate access to many parameters through the sliders has been very inspiring.
And just as I was thinking my setup was complete, the mad lads at Dreadbox unveil the Nymphes - which looks like the Typhon's polyphonic sister. Acute GAS. :)
Pretty sure this is the synth i'm getting next, thanks for showing the updates - it looks like it's gotten a lot of love since launch, i wonder if it will continue to be updated?
Incredible, thank you!.........
We need a poly typhon. Thanks for the upload
A Polyphon 🙏
@@richardtrussell8220 lol good one
Might I suggest Python as a name.
I vote for the name “Echidna”, the Greek mythological mate of Typhon.
Just call the poly - Typhoon
I’m glad I watched this, because I am clearly a number of updates behind. The last one Dreadbox notified me of was v2.0.2 in Dec ‘20, and that seemed to constitute little more than an apology for not implementing midi over usb. Has that been done yet I wonder? While it is a marvellous little box it is of very little use without midi over usb... Edit: having used the Typhon a LOT in the last few weeks, I take back the last statement- it not only has din midi in/out of course, the onboard sequencer and modulation fx more than make up for the lack of midi over usb- especially as, unlike some hardware, when it says 80bpm it MEANS 80bpm, and it manually syncs to a drum track (say) in AUM pretty much for ever.
14:14 Oh man, that THROAT preset sounds great. I would love to know how you made that one. I have a Typhon and still getting my head around it. Such an amazing piece of gear. I absolutely love Dreadbox stuff.
Love your videos mate! Please, pretty please with sugar on top, make a preset pack :D
Putting the two Typhons together with the Roland sequencer you have made an affordable and more versatile Two Voice Pro.
subbed for exellent videos
Such a great channel honestly tho
Great cover of Crash Into Me.
Crash into me! One of my favs too!
Hello Tim! Love to see your reviews. Keep going on it! Howcyou feel to buying typhon as my first synth for now! I used to have synthesizers, but now I'm starting over. And I'm lonely like both minilogue xd and typhon. Thank you
Hi. Either the Typhon or MXD would be great choices. Obviously with the Typhon at some point you have the complexity of hooking it up to a MIDI controller keyboard of some kind, ideally using MIDI DIN connection since the Typhon uses USB for power. The MXD is polyphonic and has a digital oscillator which extends its use a lot. But the Typhon is very portable, very deep modulation capability, sounds amazing and I think is incredibly good value 👍👍
thks it was great ;-)
The synths ability to sync to a DAW is excellent - never skips a beat. And in general, it is by far the best synth for the money.
Danke!
Hi Tim, I have been looking for something inspiring that would work with my Pulsar 23, Lyra 8. I was looking at the Makenoise boxes but this seems like it has so much more that would fill the gaps between the Soma machine. And the price is also excellent. of course my ipad is a great ideas tool with many apps but somehow this box appeals to me more.
Great video Tim, thank you! I have a couple questions for anyone who happens to know.
- Can you sequence other synths from the Typhon or does it only send midi clock out?
- Can you change patches via midi? For example, do you think Digitakt could be used to remotely change the patches on the Typhon?
Features in previous firmwares are included in recent firmware 3? Thanks for the great videos!
Would love to see more videos with two Typhons. When two Typhons are linked is there a way to change the oscillator pitch of the 2nd Typhon like a 3rd oscillator?
Any chance to have a preset bank from you ? i would definitely buy it ;) Anyway nice review !
agree with that it will be crazy to get some sound packs from you ;-)
I love that “Memory” patch
Lovely video (as always) Tim. I need to update my firmware! What Dave Matthews track were you using at the end....?
Thanks a lot 👍 The track at the end is a tribute to Crash Into Me
Is the clouds based on the Mutable instruments eurorack module? It sounds like MI Clouds
Yes. This alone along with the preset capabilities, ext processing, and modulation make it worth it imo
I just order the limited edition black one excited to test it out with my mpc one did ya get 2 for fx or more voices ?
top thks!!!;-)
Can you tell me the VST and Patch names for the drum kit on Crash? Really nice drum sounds, best rim shot sound I've ever heard.
Little anecdote from your excellent video: 12:10 That is what I thought that those two Typhons were bought not at the same time, as we can see here 3:03 the top plate is hold by screws of different sizes. Kind of insignificant detail, but I found this "discovery" funny. More important: Daisy-chaining is an awesome feature, :) Can we chain as many as we want?
In theory you can chain up to 16 as there are 16 midi channels to assign. I guess in practice there may be a degradation, an increasing lag in the signal for example, it would be a great to have 16 typhons to try it out! :)
Imagine the Minilogue XD with 2 of these oscillators while keeping the logue user oscillator and the sinevibes effects.😊
Please list your other gear you use for the video. Camera, mics, drum machine, software. etc in your description Thx
I could tell that last track was your version of Crash right away!
Great video thank you. it would be great if you could program the sequencer via and external keyboard too, other than that it's one of the best synths I've heard for a long time
you can keep the encoder pressed for a few seconds when on the sequencer screen and it enters recording mode.
@@alexandrosliarokapis227 No way awesome! I have one on the way :-)
Great video, as always; sadly, I still need to sell my Typhon: it's mint / as new, £260 + p&p...
Hi, Thanks for this video! Did you know if the Typhon (with the newest Firmware 3.1.1) can USB Midi now? Thanks
I asked when updated to v3.1.2 last month and Yannis told me ‘no’. It is still coming though…
@@walrtbstudios5430 Thanks for your reply. I have send an email to the support too. The answer from the support: "Typhon doesn't accept USB MIDI yet but we will implement that on the upcoming update."
Sounds promising to me :)
Is there an easy way to transpose the sequences into the key of a track you are currently working on?
Hi tim, long time follower. Would you consider sharing/selling some of your preset banks for the typhon? They're gorgeous.
Please tell me how many effects can be used simultaneously in parallel? And the second question: I want to buy myself a dreadbox typhon and I don’t know which one to take better: Limited edition or standard? Thank you for helping me. Hello from Tallinn 🇪🇪
Hi, There are basically three FX engines that can be in use at the same time. There is no difference in the synth hardware between the two versions, one is a limited edition as the name suggests and comes prepopulated with a different set of factory presets as far as I know.
everybody hates the tiny Screen on the MC101 - but the Typhon's is perfect. I get it 😂
Hey Tim! I’m curious about the typhon as I’ve owned 2 now but can’t seem to fix the terrible ground loop it creates when connected usb to hub and then connected its audio outs to my little bluebox mixer. I even tried a ground loop usb isolator but anytime I plug this in with multiple devices it creates havoc for me.
Any tips?
Hi. Ground loops are a massive problem for most of us. For example I've given up trying to use insert effects on my Moog Voyager because of them, it's not just a Typhon issue. The thing that Dreadbox should have done, but didn't, is provide professional earthed TRS connections for the audio on the Typhon. But as it is there are a couple of things you can try...
First is to not connect your Typhon in any way via USB to your audio interface/PC/Mac. In other words, use the MIDI DIN connections and not USB and avoid using audio over USB which the latest Typhon firmware allows.
Second is to use a high quality USB power adapter, I have tried many, most are cheap and poorly designed but you can find ones which prevent ground loop issues. It's trial and error unfortunately.
Third is to power the Typhon from a completely separate power outlet to the one powering you audio interface / PC / Mac. I tried as an experiment nning an extension cable from another room and that fixed the ground loop problems I had, totally impractical but it worked.
Fourth, there are some products that sit between your synth and your audio interface / PC / Mac which help to eliminate ground loops. They are little boxes that go by the name of hum destroyer, audio cleaner etc etc. I have one from Behringer called the HD400 and it works brilliantly.
@@TimShoebridge thanks for the quick reply. Very kind. I’ll keep troubleshooting.
Yes I got a small usb ground loop isolator from douk audio, maybe I’ll try the more expensive iFi devices.. because that cheaper one didn’t completely fix it. but I think the hum destroyer and plugging into a separate circuit in the house will help the issue drastically. Thanks for the suggestions.
I’m trying to use it as a companion for my Microfreak. As an extra voice and stereo effects etc…
But seems to be a nightmare to try and bring it on the road with me set up together. And just pull it out and lay it on the table plug in and good to go.. but.. I guess
Off to see the wizard.. the most wonderful wizard of buzz….
Also, I suppose I should grab the Blokas Midihub or something that actually powers the midi separately and separate the audio usb settings etc..
I’ve tried to configure it several ways, I’ll keep a go at it though!
Because I just love this synth but oof , she got some crazy in her.

You should sell a patch pack so we can use them for tracks or as an inspirational and educational resource. I would pay for it
last jam sounds like a dave matthews song :x
