This is a wonderfully in-depth discussion on the N90S/F90X! This should have many more views. Thanks for taking the time to show off and compare this greatly underappreciated camera!
Thank you very much for your nice comment! I noticed a lack of good information about this camera on RUclips. I hope this video helps fixing this gap. The F90x sits in the ungrateful spot between the classic metal SLRs and the more modern SLRs based on G-lens operation. Therefore this camera and this video will probably remain in a niche of the analog world.
Starting from the FE2, FA models which predates the F 90 X/S had a fly wheel in the mirror box which absorbed a lot of the vibration of that shutter. I had a similar problem with my FE, and with my 1000mm F 11 Nikon lens, I always had owls with fuzzy eyeballs. That shutter was a problem with macro photography and long telephotos. The later models starting from the FE 2 corrected that situation .I enjoyed your video. I got rid of my other film cameras, but I kept this one, because as far as I’m concerned, it was the a epitome of film cameras from nikon. I also have the control back from mine, which made it very handy for taking double exposures. 1:43 I still have my D 700 and D 300 because they are also excellent cameras and 12 megapixel is more than enough resolution for most situations. Switching from the F 90 S/X to the D 700 was nice because the view finder are almost identical.👏Regards Gerry
Thanks! I dont have the f100 or the f801s but i looked into this cameras too, back then when i was looking for a SLR. My conclusion was for the f801s: it is somewhat cheaper, and slimmer in profile. But its also older and less capable in AF and metering and it doesnt have the eyepiece shutter. For the F100: it is more modern and somewhat more capable in AF and metering, although the difference may be small. It has the modern DSLR Layout of Interface. Most important it works with G-lenses and it Supports the vr system. On the downside it is much more expensive, it uses much more energy and although it is made from an Metal alloy on the frame Like modern DSLR it is built to lesser Standards then the f90x. The f100 has a Brass Lens mount instead of stainless Steel. It has a plastic rewind fork, instead of Steel. No eyepiece shutter and Most important: the Back door latches are Made from plastic instead of Steel. They have a tendency to Break and there are No more spare parts. This Last Point shows to me the Most, that the f100 was more consumer Grade and the f90x was geared more towards commercial use. It wouldnt be that Bad If the f100 wasnt so much more expensive.
@@ExCenterProductions Amazing reply, thank you! In the end (and definitely with the influence of your video) I went with the N90s (f90x) and it's great! Super fast autofocus compared to the f801s and generally just feels more... bulletproof and capable! Love it :)
Hi, i use most of the time the 60mm af-d macro or the 35mm ais. The 50mm 1.8 af-d is also a cheap and good Lens i used a lot. There are many good lenses for this camera. Make Sure they have an aperture control ring
@@jampr4068 OK, If it is designed for the Nikon f-mount and features an aperture control ring it should Work. But If you are not sure, i would recommend to stay with the af-d nikkor/Nikon lenses. They offer usually good value for money and have good Overall quality (optical and mechanical)
Hello, i just got into film photography after 2 years of digital, so my mother decided to hand over her F90X to me. I'm currently looking for a mount to put a Canon lens on it so i don't waste money on a new Nikon lens. But whilst watching this review I noticed that the mirror is facing upwards instead of being at a 45* angle like in 18:27 , and the depth of field button does not move like shown in the video. I'm scared it is maybe broken. If someone has a word of advice on how to fix it or if it is even broken.
Hello Roko, make sure you have fresh batteries in your camera. The mirror should look like on my camera. There is no way to lock the mirror permanent up. If you have canon lenses it would be cheaper for you to get an analog Canon EOS camera. There are no good solutions to put Canonn glass on Nikon cameras.

Thank you for your kind words, Gerry :) You are right, the F90x and the D700 are among the finest Nikon ever made!
i bought a used N90S and a used D700 $450 for both on ebay in PERFECT CONDITION!!!
Great choice, thats a really good price for both! :)
Great review!
The questions is which to choose between this, the f801s or the f100?

Would you like a MF-26 DATA BACK for that 90S an MB-10 vertical grip and SB-26 flash??
Mine has the grip, data back and E screen. It's my favorite film camera body.
Hi what lens are you using for f90x? I brought my f90x (body only) yesterday at a thrift shop.

@@ExCenterProductions thankyou 😊 so it doesn’t matter what brand as long as its a 50mm 1.8 af-d? Sorry im just new to camera 😔
