- Finally, we are back in the workshop post VMXdN Foxhill 2023 and I am not sure what takes longer, preparing to leave for the event or the clear-up afterwards? I know we have all slept for what has felt like a month!
We take you through what we do to the bikes post the event, and before we put them up for general sale, we are looking at the KX500 Tyler Bowers rode at the event. Bowers is a big lad, and she didn’t come out unscathed. Ideally, Bowers needed a 6.3 rear spring, but we only had a 5.7, and I don’t think they even sell a 6.3 spring in the UK? He bent a set of Ti foot peg pins, which we swapped for steel, and he bent them, too. He destroyed a rear brake carrier but all these things are fixable. I haven’t worked with a pro racer who is not hard on a bike to some degree, but all these things are replaceable and have already been sorted.
First up, we strip her down and give her a wash. We tend not to wash them at the race as these old machines aren’t particularly waterproof, and it can lead to a whole host of problems; keeping them dry makes it easier to spot things leaking and rubbing. We also remove the tank; check out the video to get our tip on what to look for.
We take a trip down memory lane with Bowers. He recalls his love affair with the KX500, building his replica machine - The Unit and winning the Redbull Straight Rhythm on it.
On the R&D side, we are looking at wheel spacers and making a KXF wheel fit a two-stroke, which opens the possibilities and makes Kawasaki two-stroke builds a heap easier.
We have so much coming up, including two new projects and VMXdN Foxhill 2024 news, so make sure you like and Subscribe to the channel to ensure you don’t miss an episode.
Thanks for watching.

The stuff these guys manage to break! Will you make the "Tyler Bowers 15mm pin footpeg bracket kit"?
That’s a good call, at one point I thought we were going to have to just put a girder in there!
I have a question for you, kx500 or cr500, which is your preferred bike if you had to pick one
Thanks and keep up with the videos!
Maybe we will ask Tyler?
Where do we order the kit ?
So how the hell did the bike perform? How’d it handle? How was the power compared to a modern 450?
It was a beats that was only branded by the monster that is Tyler Bowers. They are not as ferocious as a modern 450 but they deliver the power differently. It’s more low end. The rear spring was also not big enough for Bowers. It was madness as we got the biggest we had.
