    In this video I am pinching out my sweet peas to create bushier, stronger seedlings and using the pinched out sections as cuttings to create more plants.
    We are also looking at my ranunculus. Grown from late batches I have put on in February and March to pre sprout after the loss of the autumn ones in the December big freeze.
    We catch up in the greenhouse with the seedlings and take a look at my caterpillar tunnels in the flower patches that I use to protect my plants in early spring.

      Hello, I hope you have had a good week. Thanks so much for watching this morning with a good cup of coffee ☕️ Enjoy the rest of your Sunday. I am going to enjoy planning some veg to grow in pots today as a new thing to try for our family 😊 🌱

      @@cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm aw thank you, I live for my days off just now, getting out in the garden. I just bought a packet of lettuce seeds this morning so hopefully I’ll get some planted. I’m hoping I can keep the slugs off it as it really puts me off eating it once I’ve seen any on it. Have a lovely day! Xx

    Great video again thank you. I didn’t realise that horticultural fleece came in different types. I wondered why mine always kept ripping and blowing away. I did however realise that by putting in some metal/sturdy canes into the ground first and fitting the tubing over it makes it more secure. This was after it all came apart and landed in someone else’s allotment. A great learning curve though,😂

    • @cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm
      @cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm  Год назад

      The wind is definitely a steep learning curve! I have tried lots with the low tunnels over the years and had a lot of disasters! The stronger fleece made a huge difference for me but you are right metal bars in the ground for the tubes to go into is meant to help a lot too with making them stronger. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

    I'll be growing sweet peas, ranunculus and stock in the greenhouse over winter *in the ground!* Great video 🎉

      Fab, I hope they overwinter really well for you. I am debating starting some stocks now. I lost the autumn sown ones but I love the scent. They are only one time flowers though and it’s handy filling the bed space with cut and come again varieties so I am not sure for this season. I think I will start some again in the autumn.

    I over wintered for the fist time i mentioned it on a previous video and just like yours mine froze to death it looked like they had been in a freezer 🥶but i have done more and now i have actually planted them in the garden.. fingers crossed for good weather🤞.

      I am glad you have got more sweet peas on the go now too. They are fast at getting going, we will just have slightly later flowers than if our autumn sown ones had got through but it will not be long before it’s June and they are flowering away. Yes fingers crossed for a sunny warm spring now🤞

    Didn’t know that about the sweet peas . Will remember that. I live in a zone 3 and we still have snow on the ground. I’m going to try growing ranunculus and anemones again. They didn’t fare well last year. I hope April will give us spring so I can try and get them out earlier.
    Look forward to the phacelia. I bought a pkg and when I opened it, it was empty, lol. Got my money back. I will have to try again.

      Hi Vera, I hope you get some warmer weather soon. After a snowy cold winter by April you will be ready for some warmer weather. I hope you have more success with your anemones and ranunculus this year. When they do work they are fabulous. Oh no finding no seeds in your phacelia packet, that’s no good 🙊 Glad you got your money back. Wishing you a flower filled season and some warm spring days.

    Good tip on orlaya, I have 2 germinated from sowing at the beginning of March, I was about to give up, will keep going with them, nothing doing on larkspar yet! Probably because they are not on a heat mat 🤦🏻‍♀️

    • @cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm
      @cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm  Год назад

      Hi Dolina, thanks for watching. I hope a few more of your orlaya are showing now. Larkspur is a tricky one. They do like a period of cold before sowing to germinate and then some warmth but can be very slow. Hopefully they will get germinating soon for you. I have just got some through now sown on the 15th of March. The seeds were chilled for a couple of weeks before sowing and then put on a heat mat.

    Hi Catherine. My sweet peas have got a bit leggy and was going to pinch but never thought to use the pinched ones for new cuttings so I will definitely be trying this. Can I ask what's your tip to get long stems? I did pinch out tendrils and tied them in but they weren't as long as expected? Also, is your greenhouses heated? Thanks

    • @Tea_and_thyme_2012
      @Tea_and_thyme_2012 Год назад +1

      Hi, I don’t pinch mine as advised by someone else I follow and last year I had stems over 18inch long. I think they do branch naturally so you always get more once you cut them.

    • @cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm
      @cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm  Год назад +1

      Hi, to get longer stems I pinch out the tendrils, which you are already doing. I also grow Spencer varieties for longer stems. Which varieties do you grow? My greenhouse is unheated. I hope you enjoyed this weeks video.

      @@cloudberryflowers-flowerfarmI only really started growing flowers during lockdown and I bought my sweet peas from Matthewman Sweet Peas 2 years ago and just picked random colours that I liked the look of not knowing some varieties gave longer stems than others but one in particular was Jilly (as I have a cousin called Jilly) and its stems were better than the rest . I had enough left over to sow for this year but when I went to garden centre recently I picked up a packet of Spencer as it said longer stems - I haven't sown them as I'm not sure I have space but think I ought to just to compare. Love your videos btw😊

    • @cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm
      @cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm  Год назад +1

      @@mrsm9443 Jilly is a great variety of sweet pea for growing as a cut flower as it is a spencer variety and does give long stems so that might be why that one worked out well for you before. What other flowers have you enjoyed growing since you started in lockdown?

    Just wondering how you harden stuff off? Do you just put out in day and bring in at night for a week or so? Thanks

    • @cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm
      @cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm  3 месяца назад +1

      Yes I do harden things off usually for 10 days or so. I take them out for a couple
      hours in the day in a sheltered spot out of direct sun the first day and then gradually build up a few more hrs each day. After a week I start leaving them out if it’s nice weather overnight and then get them planted out. If it’s a horrible day gale force winds and heavy rain, snow I wouldn’t harden them off that day.
