I have been crabbing for years and have been to that dock only a few times. The way you filmed it made everything look fantastic! Really good job and glad to see the whole family out enjoying a nice day. Thanks for making this video!
Pretty cool footage ,,, I have been down that dock many times great drone footage & awesome gopro underwater footage ,, I have never seen underwater footage of the crabs on the trap ,,,
I noticed in most of the videos that people throw the trap. We use a fishing with the same type of trap for crabbing in Washington state. Is a fishing pole not an approved equipment for Vancouver BC
Depends on the type of crab. In Southern Vancouver Island there are two main types of crab: Red Rock and Dungeness. Specifically in Sooke, you will mainly catch Dungeness crab. They are larger. Legal size for Dungeness is greater than 165 mm, or 6.5 inches. For Red Rock, it's 115 mm or roughly 4.5 inches. However, if you're planning on going to the same pier in Sooke as in the video, I would look elsewhere. It's so over-fished right now due to all the crabbing tourists/locals bored during Covid/big family groups with 20 pots between them that there are next to no male crab left. I tried for a couple hours today and caught only one small female, so RIP me
How come you wait so long? It looks like they come right away. Wouldn’t it make more sense to see what you have right away and if there’s no keepers, you have a head start on recasting in a different direction? That trap can’t catch more than 4 crabs anyway..

I've been living in Victoria, I also love fishing crabs too! That's my favorite spot! Nice video! :)
How do you stream using gopro? Wifi just doesn't work when it is under water
Yeah did you use peanut butter?
Good to know it's possible to catch a bunch of Dungeness from the pier in Victoria! Thank you!

I've caught mostly red rocks. All the dungeness I've caught were either too small or females.
Doesn’t it depend on the time of year ?
Where is this exactly at Sooke?
Just bought a house in sooke....looking forward to doing this with my family.....maybe I'll see you down there
haha i did the same as you. super excited.
What is the minimum size of crab that you are allowed to catch? Im curious because it will be my first time catching crabs.

How long do you guys soak your traps for. Great video,
Ten minutes if you have kids with you and half and hour if there are no kids. With those kind of traps. Great for kids.

Is penut butter better than peanut butter for bait?
THE SEAL LOL
Can you do a vlog of you going to “SeaSide Sweets”? PLEASE I BEG YOU also tell what day if you are! (I’m the owners daughter :) )
Nice vid. Beautiful day.
Nice catch
Wow, so beautiful out there. Great day to be alive!
Unless you're a crab.
David Young 😄
Next to impossible to find a keeper. Even harder to not have a seal rip apart your trap.

Sydney spit has lots of dungee males. Common over.
