@TheWanderer... first time hearing this song I just got introduced to Trevor Hall not too long ago I've been introduced so much music lately and I thought you was talking about California but Shiva Kali I'm going to look that up thank you for pointing that out...✌✌✌🎶=❤
This song has been available for purchase for a long time and is part of a compilation. www.kalimandir.org/store/audio/kali-kirtan/ Trevor is "Rampriya Das" and I am sure supporting this non-profit, educational and religious organization would mean a lot to him.
Its music your are free to interpret the way you choose FREE to let the music take you were you want it to take u I choose peace and love so spelling is great and correct for me he couls spell it with Z and I would love it free of any judgement
For those commenting on Cali, The all pure, all mighty "Shiva" is not worried about RUclips titles. Listen to pure chanting of holy name, such a heart warming and riveting singing. Many thanks for this 🙌
Umm....this isn't a Trevor tune.....this is an ancient traditional kirtan mantra...and it's Kali, NOT Cali....unless your Kali happens to live in Cali.... 😂😂😂😂
It's Kali for Durga Ma in Hinduism as Indians and Hindus we have never spelt it as Cali. We use it in our bhajans as jai mata di! Meaning as the supreme mother wills!
For all the folks who are getting riled up about kali spelled as cali. Sheev or shiv literally means nothingness. Spellings are irrelevant when you are praying to nothingness.
Spelling is relevant. Śīva, your first 'version', in Sanskrit means boundary/limit, and is not the (or a) name of the God Śiva. Śiva, your second 'version', is the name of the God who is the spouse of Kālī. Śivā, just to throw another 'version' in there to make my point, is the name of a yoginī, a river in India mentioned in ancient texts, and a name of the Mother Goddess. See how very minute variations in spelling and even pronunciation have a huge difference? I love this song, no hate to Trevor, but it's not as trivial as you've pointed out. Cali written out for Sanskrit words in English would be pronounced as 'cha', so you would never see Kali written as Cali.
Trevor knows how to spell the name of Kali - even someone with a passing knowledge of Hindu deities does - the spelling is intentional for whatever reason

I know how you feel! Nonetheless, Mā is showing her presence! Jai Kali Ma!

I would guess, since Trevor knows this fact well, that it must be a play on words. Perhaps a prayer for California.
Neeta J please sit down, it doesn't matter.

Its nothingness and yet full. With shiva you are praying the divine paradox. your proposition remains valid here though.

Beautiful kirtan. Anyone know the chord progression? Trying to figure it out on my harmonium.
