Dear Joanna, A million thanks for the immense work you've put into your instructional videos. You incredibly inspire my growth and work; I hang on your every word and eagerly watch your beautiful creations. ❤ Kind regards: Beci from Hungary 🎉
I've been looking for a good RUclips video for improving my understanding of color theory and editing for harmony, and this is easily the best one I've seen yet. Thank you so much for uploading this! Your work is amazing.
I'm a newbie learning photography and just searching around youtube to learn about color grading after how many channel and see this incredible channel Thank you so much
I'm new to the topic colors, but I figured it would be necessary to learn it in order to make good pictures stunning. When googling this topic you usually get the basics on how harmonies work and how you just push any preset over your picture. But your work is just outstanding and since a lot of people don't seem to understand that you really need to use the colors that are in your picture, you master it to the top! Kudos!
As a sports photographer, this is an amazing new experience for me. One in which I am sincerely interested. And....a 50mm lens is so much smaller and easier to use than a 400mm. Your masterclass has been amazing to watch and I play them over several times. So much to learn and try, I will be eagerly anticipating newer videos while I practice. So I echo other comments about your masterclass video and Thank you so very much. Ted in Sebastian, Florida
thank you so much Joanna! I have personally learned so much from your videos and now I even get to see your entire process. What a blessing! Thank you! from Singapore!
Great suggestion for a monitor desk lamp! Helps with my work environment where others may change the surrounding lighting. Deep and detailed tutorials: love it. Mike
Calibrite will be happy to know that I bought a Color checker passport and the monitor calibration tool you used in your videos. You’re a great ambassador for them
Joanna: EYE TRAINING EXERCISES ??? Your grasp of color--in theory and in practice--inspires us to try it, too! You demonstrate, for example, that patches with exactly the same hue but different brightness or saturation look like DIFFERENT COLORS to an untrained eye. But your expert eye sees it correctly! We know that there is EAR TRAINING for singers and musicians; that is, practical exercises to identify pitch and tone. HOW CAN WE TRAIN OUR EYES to see, for example, the same hue in these patches??? Or to see the same saturation in patches with different levels of brightness??? Love your in-depth tutorials!
Thank you for your feedback. My background is music, many years playing instruments and singing so I do know perfectly well what you are talking about ;) It's The idea is exactly the same like in music - practice. By repeating and checking what are the colors in the picture and dissecting your photograph will teach your brain to spot these differences.
You are very inspiring, and I have learnt so much. My knowledge on colour theory and how to apply it to my images has been vastly improved. I shoot landscape, street and wildlife, and extreme macro. I was looking for more colour harmony in my images and I am going to apply the techniques you use for fashion photography. Thank you.
Great video! A lot of information, it's a little hard to understand for me (as beginner, maybe this is for more advanced photographers). Amazing video, I just would like that the editing part were shown actually step by step and doing it at the same time you explain it. Again great video!
Hi Joanna, I just found your Masterclass videos and they are amazing!! Thankyou for your time and sharing your knowledge! 👍❤️🙂 Do you use a hood on your monitor? How does that work with the light bar? If you can only use one, is it better to use a hood or the light? Do you calibrate your monitor with the light bar turned on? Thanking you, Paul 😊
Spectacular! 🙌🏽 Thanks you so much! Do you use any camera profile or other settings? And what is your WB that you use? Many thanks in advance & Saludos!
Amazing videos. I recently came across your work, and you are now one of my greatest inspirations. I learned so much from the videos. Is it possible to provide a link so we can download DNG files of the “before” photos to practice. I also look forward to your future in person masterclasses which I would love to attend Thank you
Hasta luego Joanna, this video is incredibly helpful! Thank you so much for sharing. Missed the premiere, but enjoyed it today. I hope you continue with Masterclass videos like this, of course I'll donate! One question about your technique. You mentioned that you calibrate the monitor to meet Adobe RGB. What colorspace are you using in camera when taking pictures and later on when editing them - sRGB or Adobe RGB? Maybe I only missed it in the videos ...
Thank you Roland! I am using sRGB in my camera for my jpegs (they are only for the preview) and RAW files are unaffected by the profile. I open my RAW files in Adobe RGB and later convert it to sRGB when saving for web.
Thank you so much! I have a question about the color checker and color passport. Is the purpose of using it to reflect how the colors look in real life to the eye in the lighting scene??
Great information! Can you please give some tips for when you have to produce large galleries not just a few pictures? How do you edit a wedding gallery for instance with quality and consistancy but without speding so much time on a photo? Thank you!
Elisa, I don't do weddings so it's hard to me to relate to this problem. However when I need to colorgrade a big bunch ofphotos I work on one picture, create my custom colorgrading and apply it to the rest of the photos. I hope it helps ;)
Thank your for your very best class, I learn more in colour grading from this video. Just a question, some time you add colour on highlight but sometime in shadow, why to do that, is it depends on area or others reason? PS : I would like to donate to get PSD file but unfortunately I got message " Donations to this recipient aren't supported in this country". Is there others way for support?
Thank you so much for this great tutorial. It's very informative and useful. However I have one question: I have understood from the first - shooting - part that you have tethered into CaptureOne. So, why are you going through CameraRaw before transfering the images into Photoshop and don't continue with CaptureOne?
Hi Joanna, Congratulations on the works and for these videos. Explain the concepts very clearly! Just one question, do you calibrate the monitor to D65 or D50?
great masterclass, you are truly amazing! One quick question, while using your D&B layer inside the FS action, do you use D&B with white and black as your colors? or do you sample colors from the model skin?

Will you ever sell your action sets?
A good idea indeed!
Using a color checker to get more vibrant colors, then reduce vibrance in raw editing. Pretty logical. Because you've been payed to sell it.
The color checker is to calibrate colors, not to add vibrancy
