In the 90s our club had a senior stop for 7 years. Chi Chi was on the range after his round, entertaining the fans. He noticed a young man with a slight handicap and asked him if he wanted to hit a few. The kid hit some good shots.
When finished Chi Chi pulled out 3 one hundred dollar bills, stuck it in the kids front pocket and said "Get yourself some new clubs"
I will never forget that day!

Wow that is so awesome. Must have felt connected to the child. It’s those little small acts that define a man. Thanks for sharing

Watched Chi Chi play a lot at our Tour event in New Orleans. On this occasion I was watching him play a practice round with Aussie Bob Shearer and the group behind had Trevino in it so I hung back to watch Lee play a few holes. Lee was standing on the tee waiting for Cheech and Bob to putt out on the par 3 and Lee turned to the small gallery and said “You see that little guy up on the green…he’s won 7 times on the Tour and had the talent to win 27 times, plus a few majors. He didn’t do it because he thought he had to play the perfect shot for every situation. He didn’t have a stock shot to fall back on like me and Nicklaus…”

So many different swings around in those days, great player, with charm and charmisma, unlike today who are like a bunch of robots

Thank U for the video analysis...I met Chi Chi with my Dad in 1974 as a 19 year old at a Charity ⛳ Golf Event in West Bloomfield , Mich...Same tourney we chatted with Tom Watson before he won his first British Open ...anyway on the same hole as we chatted with Watson we asked Chi Chi for a photo...My Dad and I r smaller guys and ChChi joked about that and then lifted the gallery rope so we could take the photo arm in arm..then he started his banter of jokes... originally it was my Dad and i and soon we were surrounded by at least 50 people laughing....A humble..great man...RIP Chi Chi...God Bless U...

My only memory of Chi Chi other than on tv was I actually saw him at the 75 Greensboro tournament and I remember it like it was yesterday. On one particular hole he actually teed up his ball on a pencil long before big headed drivers and long tees were even out.

I’ve done that, i take out the eraser and use the pencil only out of desperation! Must have been unique back in the day to see that

@@liongolfacademy if my memory serves me correctly back then it was a luxury if golf pencils had erasers so it would not be to difficult to balance the ball on the flat end. Lots of great memories from that week following all the greats back then. Arnie was there along with Player, Miller, Weiskopf who won that week, Trevino, Archer, and many more.
