Thanks Tom. I like this game too. A few friends who don't even like Catan because they dislike getting beat by dice rolls and not receiving resources. In this game you always get resources, it's just a matter of which. A lot of people love that about this game.
Have seen a review of this by Joe and his wife. They like this game too :) This game have some neat ideas (using resource card as a dial) and really looks nice. Wonder, can't it be played with say 3 people? It looks like it has a lot of cards, but maybe there won't be enough for more players. But one can set 5 points for the victory then maybe. Also, isn't 7 points victory is a bit too less for a 2 players game? In you example you haven't done very much and you already had 4 points :)
Unfortunately, this one is strictly for two players, mainly because there are only two sets of starting cards (the ones with red or blue backs), and there is only a stack of five settlements available, over which the two players have to fight. So you can't even build a third player deck yourself without making it impossible to expand for all players. You might figure out a way if you had two copies of the game available, but adapting all the cards into a three-player rules seems quite impossible
This is the only version of Catan I have I have had it for years, but never knew there was another version till recently. I had the original version not the Rivals. Though now that it has been remade I will have to look into it because I always find it hard to find people to play with and I have done Catan on Xbox and have a hard time with playing it since I am so use to this version.
There were actually 7 expansions for the old card game (in Germany at least). I'm surprised, that Mayfair used this time the Original German design for the box and the cards. As far as I know, they never did this before with any Catan game.
pikachu2510 Throughout the course of the game players can acquire multiple resource cards of the same type, increasing the maximum of that type they can hold, but still only 3 per card. The active player can take resources from multiple cards when spending or trading.
Help please Tom! Is there a possibility that you make a video with the Age of Darkness expansión as well as the Age of Enlightment expansión? My husband and I are big fans for this Rivals for Catan and bought the expansions but the rules are not clear. We hope you can help us!!!
I would like to buy the 2player cardgame, but there only seems to be the cardgame with the old design/graphics (from the old settlers of catan), and not the new one (the one you have). Here (Europe/Beglium) they say they don't bring out the old cardgame anymore and they don't make a new one with new design. I told the people in the store i saw this design, but they haven't heared about it. To bad
This is a great game that my wife and I have been playing for a while and we have only recently moved on to the first expansion. QUESTION: We are a little confused as to the difference between a draw stack and a discard pile...we have always just discarded the card back into one of the draw stacks but some of the cards say we need to return the card to our own draw stack...How does this part of the game work? Am I missing something?
+Keven Christy You shouldn't return the cards to the draw stack when you finish using then (like action cards) but instead dump them in the initially empty discard pile.
This was our first game and still a classic favorite for my wife and I.

So gold only get traded 3 for 1 resource or can gold be used in a normal trade as a 1:1 like 1 gold can be a wheat toward a city?
I love your videos, especially the catan reviews!!! thanks so much!
Good enough for me I’ll be buying it
can you recommend a video for era of gold beginning rules? its confusing to read
each resource card can only be turned up to 3, to show that you have 3 of that resource, does that mean u cant have more than 3 of one resource?

Hi, we have played both expansions and I have recorded videos for the expansions. One was uploaded a few days ago and more will be live in April :)

Your own drawstack is if you play Duel of the Princes/Tournament game
Which is best, this or struggle for Catan?
This, more variety
Good stuff. I'll buy this.
Please do a Rivals for Catan Age of Darkness expansion review :)
