- Cleaning turkey spurs- A quick and easy way to clean up and whiten turkey spurs. I left my spurs in the freezer so they took a little bit longer to boil. Fresh spurs will boil off much quicker.

Thank you for this video, we've got ostriches down here in South Africa and I've got a couple of feet that I'd like to preserve in some kind of way, my kid is obsessed with Dino's and archeology and id like to clean em up and bury them in the yard for a "suprise" find 😊
That's a cool idea! I've got a some turkeys from the last few years I haven't done anything with yet. One guy I saw made a "shadow box" with cypress wood. He had the fan, beard, pictures, a shell and other sort of things in there. Something like this necklace of spurs would be cool to add. I don't know why I never thought of adding a picture, but that really hit me as something quite meaningful. Thanks for sharing this!
Yea that sounds really cool. I don't even do anything with the fans anymore.
Great video and thanks for providing the links to the whitening products.
Glad I saw this. I have a bucket full of legs and I've been meaning to do something with all the spurs!
Yea I still have a bunch to clean. Its super easy. Its easiest if you do them when they havent dried out.
Well, I have that going against me then, but I'm still gonna have to give this a try.
Yea its still super easy!
I'm hoping to go on my first turkey hunt in the spring. I will refer back to this video IF I get a couple cause I'd like to save the spurs.
It’s super easy!
Going to make one for my wife for our 20th and wait for it........divorce court. Nice hooks on those birds. Way longer than any I have. Very rocky where I hunt and I think it wears them down.
What did you use to clean the spurs? Dawn soap? What are the two large bottles? I'm fixin to clean a set of 1 1/2" spurs, 10 1/2 beard, 21 lbs, Michigan bird.
Pretty cool. I never considered them things were worth keeping. Of course I only ever killed one turkey and that was decades ago.
I never used to pay any attention to them. Figured I may as well start keeping them.
Legit neck wear, guess I need to start turkey hunting Lol! Glad we could team up my man, Stay well. Catch you around!
As much as I love to deer hunt, killing turkeys has always sort of been my thing. Its so much fun!
I think you should call that an appellation shark tooth necklace
I subbed your channel I’ll check out more of your adventures
Thanks! That is what my daughter thinks they are!
Appalachia: On The Hunt She’s got a good eye 😏
That’s pretty cool. Great video.
I like the necklace idea. They came out really good. Great video.
Thank ya!
Cool video, I havent been turkey hunting yet, maybe next spring. Looks like you have got a bunch of them.
Give it a try! It is all kinds of fun! I've kiled tons of them but have been chasing them since I was a little kid.
Turkey spur soup, looks delicious!
Makes a good base for soup.
I generally followed this video but I made 2 errors.
First, I added a tiny bit of dish soap during my initial soak of the spurs (to loosen the skin.) This resulted in the spurs losing their rich dark color. I let them sit for a long while and the skin came off easily.
Second, the skin came off so easily that it pulled the "sheath" of the spur completely off. So now I have one continuous piece of white leg bone and white spur.
It's not a total loss. I can still display them. Just a good story of trial-and-error taxidermy by a novice. And if I really wanted to I could repaint the spurs somehow.
What do you do with all your beards? And is there anyway you could show us all your trophies you killed over the years, thanks
I dont really do much with them. RIght now they are all in a shoe box. HAHA Ill have to make a video going over some of the ones Ive killed. Since I built my house I have never really designated a "trophy" room. So my stuff is kinda scattered.
Appalachia: On The Hunt ok sweet and thanks for the reply
Friend of mine knocks out the primer of the shell he killed the bird with and hot glues them in the shell.
How long do you let them sit in the bleach combo after painting em?
Works great! Thank you for the video
What Spurred you on with this Whitnin' Formula!! Would the Combo bleach out the Color of the Spur itself rather than just the Bone if the Entire Spur was immersed!! Thanks 4 sharing.... Liked & Subscribed....
Back when I did alot of taxidermy this mix is what I used on skulls. It will take the color out of the spur so you have to be careful to wipe any off if it gets on the "nail".
Thanks for watchin and subbing!!!
Great job ! Going to try that, thanks
Pretty cool never seen this way before 👍
Thanks buddy!
Thank you for sharing Buddy!
Thanks for watching!
Good shit!
Thought this was interesting! We were wondering what you were going to do with them.
They are hanging on my rearview mirror right now. Once I finish remodeling my basement and I have an actual "mancave" they will go there.
Cool video
Awesome very good idea !!
real nice!!!
Are you removing the cover off the spurs itself to expose the bone? Or just the scales on the leg?
Just removing the skin, meat/fat off the bone. The actual nail of the spur stays on. I have accidentally had them come off. No big deal you can just glue it back on.
@@HuntAppalachia1 ok thank you!
How long do you let it sit in the dawn dishwashing liquid and what does that do for it
maybe 15-20 minutes. It helps degrease them.
That’s some good info!
Not quite as tasty as the burger recipe but made some good looking shark teeth!
Thanks...good video!!
Wow very nice video
Pls stay connected always
Thanks Zeena!
What is the blue stuff you soaked them in? Thank you.
Dawn dish liquid water.
