Bible study with me as we learn about how to fast Christian way together. Christian fasting is something that I honestly did not do much of, so I decided to study the word and learn about it in order to apply it to my life. There are several different ways on how to fast Christian way. Some people fast from food while others abstain from social media, etc. Either way, Jesus practiced prayer and fasting as a way to get closer to God. Many people have questions about Christian fasting such as what is fasting and why should I fast. I hope this bible study on fasting is helpful in answering those questions!

Just to add on this topic. In Mark 2:18-22, we see that there were some people who asked Jesus why his disciples were not fasting yet the disciples of John the Baptist and the Pharisees were fasting and Jesus told them that they didn't need to because he was there to help them. However, He also mentioned that there would come a time when He would be taken away and then the disciples would be expected to fast. This just reinforces the fact that fasting is essential and it is expected of us. It draws us closer to God.

Jesus says when we fast. I truly believe we should fast and now that i do seek God I will do my first fasting along with my husband. This will be so hard but I’m looking forward to it! If you are a child of God fast! We all should.

@@IAMBRITTENMILES amen! This was 9 months ago. Let me tell u! We have been fasting ever since. God has shown me so much. His glory. I’ve had many prayers answered. He has talked to me in my dreams. I’ve had visions and wake up saying names and numbers. It’s supernatural!!! I found the perfect church! God is so good!!!! I’m so happy. Yes life is tough and we have struggles. Life in not easy but with Jesus. He makes it all better! God bless u too my sister! Amen amen!!!

As you were reading how Jesus fasted and then what he did when he was tempted, it painted a picture of “how” you fast. I’ve been searching high and low for something so official, so “step by step” and it just hit me, just follow the example that Jesus left!!! Follow what He did when He fasted. He separated himself, he didn’t eat, he prayed to God, he fought back temptation with scriptures.

Duration of fasting? What time to what time? Is it from 6am till 12pm? How long does your fast last till?
I watched a 60 minutes on Tourette’s syndrome, and it reminded me of the guy in Scripture where he seems to have suffered from such a syndrome. (Matthew 17.14-21) I noticed the parents where both over weight, and I wondered if they tried this fasting and prayer. Jesus wants us to fast and pray, but he adds in an element that I believe many miss, and that element is a demonstration of our faith in Our Father in Heaven, whom no man can see. We are taught to keep it between ourselves and God alone. Doctors did provide a solution using deep brain stimulation; however, if Tourette’s syndrome is caused by a demonic force then it would stand to reason that the deep brain stimulation is a temporary fix. It’s kind of like slapping the demon into submission without removing it. I’m not saying it isn’t a good thing, but suppose someone is unable to receive the surgery, or the surgery fails to work? Isn’t faith in God, the creator of us all a better solution?
What do you do if someone finds out your not eating (or whatever your fasting from) and they ask you why your not doing that thing.
Are you sure it’s not food or water we’re supposed to be fasting from? I’m just curious
I disagree with if you have a medical issue. I trust God more than doctors. Dealing with multiple organ failure and fasting for healing.
Does bible tell us how Jesus fasted? e.g. which days , how many times a week, month, year etc. From what time in the day to what time? Did he abstain from food only, or also fluids? Did he advise to follow the way Jews fast? because he was a Jew . I want to know what Jesus said and did; I do not want to know about modern self made interpretations that you can fast from social media or video games. No disrespect intended to these interpretations but I want to know about Jesus only please. Does anyone have references from the bible please? I will be very grateful.

Im 15 and im under weight for my height should I fast even though it my hinder my growth as in height or weight
Have the same problem. I think it's best to focus on gaining weight - at least that's what I'm trying to do, even if it's much harder than it sounds. Maybe try a mild form of fasting first and only give up some type of food (like sweets, meat, animal products, sugar/salt, processed food, etc.)

Sorry for the late reply. If your health is a concern I'd always say no - certainly eat. I think God honors fasting in other ways (refraining from social media, etc). You can even refrain from sweets instead of all food for a period of time. Hope this helps :)
