- Today we paint the Nissan Xterra rims! I'm really excited about this video because it makes such a difference in how the Xterra looks. I went with a bronze color; I love the way it sets off the bluish gray color of the X. Thanks to @AlldogsOffroadCoop and @RobbyLayton for the inspiration and motivation.

I USE OVENS CLEANER,IS SO PERFECT TO CLEAN AND REMOVE EVERYTHING,LIKE NEW,AFTER THAT YOU CAN DO WHAT EVER YOU WANT.
Good call out! THank you.
@@Rythecarguy have you painted your calipers yet?
Nice job Ry! Turned out better than I was expecting.
Thanks mike! 👍🏻
Just did mine. Just a much simpler way of doing it on an older car X. I like the gold I did mine matte black on my 06 yellow xterra.
Those look GREAT bruv! Excellent work. Thank you for sharing.
Lookin good! I have some gunmetal grey with bronze mixed in on my new DX4 wheels! If you like the color def look into them!
Great Stuff keep them coming!!
Thanks! Will do!
Those look great. Awesome job.
Thank you! I appreciate it.
So clean, nice work dude. I feel like smaller rims completes the look. Not sure if I should paint my 18s on the frontier, maybe it will look a little silly.
Photoshop it first. That always helps me visualize it.
Thanks for this. My steel wheels are chipping badly and rust may be in my future. I was stuck between a crappy looking DIY job or an expensive repaint. Your tutorial gives me confidence a DIY approach would look decent.
Also, what size tires are you planning? Is a 4x4 conversion in the future?
Not sure I will do a conversion. It might be easier to just pick up a 4x4 that needs work and swap out everything else that I want. I was thinking of maybe doing 270-75-17 on new rims. If you have chipping on your steelies you should for sure paint them, what have you got to lose!
Hey man great video looks good the color lots of my friends from Titan swap club have panted their rims too . So at some point between all the upgrades and mods I am doing now I think to paint them too this color And I know the feeling about the different tires... then needing bigger rims.. I want to do a titan brake upgrade... but for that I need to upgrade my 16s inch rims to bigger one.. then I need bigger tires.. and like you said snow ball effect lol
It adds up fast right?!? Crazy lol.
Props to the Robby Layton shout out.
Thanks man! Those dudes kill it with the paint.
Rob you Layton Nation finish that's how I would spell it 🤣
lol, not a fan?
I never comment on your videos, but Damn dude. Giving me ideas now, for the wife and I's xterra. We just got these wheels (we have the SE model so it came qith the stock 17" rims and we wanted more tire meat over rim), and I've been wanting to do gold rims for my wife's xterra, and I think this is what we're gonna do until we buy new 16" rims. I spent the money and got her good BFG K02 tires, just wanna get good rims to complement it. Good video as always man. Cheers.
P.S. when you finally lift your X, do a leveling kit. We did a 2.5" lift from rough country and its doing great so far. Definetly want to upgrade it in the future to a 3" lift but for now it's great.
Nice! That sounds like a nice setup. Would love KO2's but will likely go with something more..... "cost-efficient" hahah
My X is lifted my dude. I put a 2.5" all the way around with an ADO kit. I have heard really go things about the RC kit though. Good choice.
@@Rythecarguy Yeah I understand, I had just saved a shit ton of money for whatever on our X and that's what I got lol. I totally get it. Shoot dude, I literally just saw your video on the lift. Good choice with the ADO lift, I really like them. I wish I went with them, and hopefully in the future will have the money for that lift kit cause I would love to upgrade to that kit.
funny I found this video, I recently went offroad and scrapped the face of one wheel on a rock. time to paint now to decide what color lol
Heck yea! I'm sure it will turn out great. 👍🏻
Maybe I missed it... but it might be easier to get the cards in there if you deflate the tire and push it back a bit. Good inspiration though, I wonder how my red one would look with that color on the wheels..
Great tip didn't think of that. I just jammed them in and hoped for the best lol.
Ry! I had a dark gray integra with bronze rims and your x brings me back to those days. I have 2015 pro4x white right now. I'm planing on painting mine black gloss.
may consider clearcoating them, sand and polish. the it should look flawless. in theory.
I’m needing to paint some new (to me) wheels but they was already painted so been trying to strip the old wheels and it’s been a chore to get the old paint off.
Hey Ry. Curious because I’m not used to jacking up a car that weighs this much. Where on the side of the X is your jack point?
You can also wipe a layer of Vaseline on the tire to mask it off. Just put it on the tire, shoot your paint, let it dry and then wipe the Vaseline off.
Yea, I've heard of that but never knew anyone who tried it. How did it work out?
Ill be interested to see how long the paintjob lasts before chipping. So much work though, I would be dead after doing one let alone four.
Yea, it really is a lot of work. With how little I drove it it will probably hold up but if you're the type that trail rides it might start chipping.
i know this is off subject but do you know a simple way to install the blend door actuator.the local nissan place gave me a labor quote of 658.48 and the part is 49.95 it is under the dash almost behind the radio they said it was a 5 hour job.thanks
Love this video. I have a 2008 and I’m painting all my plastic trim black and doing this EXACT coat to my rims! Looks awesome
Hell yea! Hope it goes well for you.
@@Rythecarguy actually just finished spray painting the rear and front plastic trim pieces thanks to your other video. But I really wanna do the Rims like so because mine have that iron fading going on
Great informative video....quick question what would be any potential negatives if i just painted the rim while it was on the car?
Masking might be a pain. Since you would want to avoid getting paint on the rotor and caliper. Same with the lug nuts.
Great job , hey body how much you paid for your Chinese tires ? Thank you for your prompt response.
Hey man. This was years ago but it was about 500 total. Purchase, balance, and mount.
Thanks!
Hey! Thank YOU. :D
You can get 285/75 tires without getting bigger rims, unless those are 15s.
Oh yea, I just want bigger rims.
@@Rythecarguy Why? Bigger rims are heavier and you feel the bumps more. Harder on the truck
What size tire are you wanting to go to that you'd need new larger rims? Largest we can get on there (without tswap) is 33. Are you going super wide or something?
I said it backwards in the video. I really want larger rims that will require different tires. Not the other way around. I am thinking like a 275/70/17. Those should be just a little over 32 inches.
Rye .... ive been watching you xterra vids for years now...I also have an 2005 2nd gen manual 6 speed...but mine is 4wd and I am sorta embarresed for you ..for not using a coil of cheap 6" aluminum house flashing as a custom fit spray shields..and a bit of tape to keep the circumfrence tight to the rim size..your a dork for using index cards...but I like your vidios anyway.
Works like a charm though! 🤓thanks for watching dude.
I wonder if you can fill deep blemishes on the rim with body filler?
You don't need new rims to go with bigger tires, there are plenty of 16 inch tires from 32 to 35 inchs to choose from and those are the biggest tires you can fit on an Xterra without extensive mods and smaller wheels (16s) and tires with more sidewall preform better off road and bigger tires with beefier sidewalls look better on the Xterras. Great Vid however, finished wheels looked great !
Nice
Thanks man!
Will this work if your factory wheels have some factory finish chipped off?
Yea you should be able to get away with that. Just make sure that you chip off as much as will come off, then sand the edges to smooth them out
@@Rythecarguy Thanks for your reply. I have same color Xterra and was pleased with how the bronze wheels turned out. Looking to do same diy modification soon.
What is the color code for this xterra?
HELP! I've got a 2007 Xterra, 4x4, 6 spd manual, base model and my cruise control system decided to not work anymore and how/what do I look for to fix it.
Hey Russ. The controls are on the front of the steering wheel right? If so it's most likely the clock spring. Swap that out and it should work.
So that means the steering wheel comes off. Ugh
Can you do a video on how to fix it?
No protective clear coat?
Decided against it. It's been great so far. Even in the salt and snow in Michigan
The day i put a foot un your country take for sure i invite You to a beer God bless you 🙏🏻👍🏼
Couldn't you just paint them without removing all 4 wheels?
Yup
Don't do it! Within no time you will see ugly paint chips and such!
I'll update as time goes on. Hopefully they hold up well.
