Man, the strat sounds so nice and full without being muddy - love it! Gonna have to set my Condor to a Klon-type sound and combine in with my Benson as well
My favorite 2 pedal combo is my ceriatone cantura klon clone into my True North tweed drive pedal sound as amazing and total costs for both pedals is under 400.
Brilliant. This video made me decide to reorder my overdrive and distortion pedals (namely the Archer Ikon) to precede the Benson. Exquisite results. Thank you, Mr. Room GD.
I’ve been running a RYRA klone & Benson Preamp pretty much exactly like this for years… I feel so validated! ;) Sounds so good Eirik… thanks for sharing!!!
Have you tried other boosts into the benson preamp? Sounds like it’s just the benson being awesome and any boost or light gain overdrive before it would get you there.
Wow I love this sound… especially the Benson. That pedal wasn’t even on my radar, but it seems to have that exact dirty, gritty, high gain sound I was looking for. All my current OD pedals sound too smooth and creamy. Thanks for the tip! Well made video, too!
So wouldn't a boost pedal do something similar given how low the gain is set on the Klon? I believe the Klon stars clipping at around 2 o'clock so with this setting it's basically a boost. Test it out!
At lower settings, you're not engaging the clipping diodes that make the Klon what it is, - so basically, yeah, - it's a buffered clean boost, with a slight mid push. Many things could work.
Gonna try and replicate this on a serious budget: Boss EQ into MXR Distortion+ into EHX How Tubes. Hard clipper into tweedy overdrive with a little mid-bump is pretty much the sound!
@@LivingroomGearDemos lol my bad - a U.K. euphemism. It means something like ‘everything turned up’ in this instance. I.e. I wasn’t a fan of the full-on tone but really liked it rolled off with the humbuckers (i use a Vemuram Myriad in that way as a base tone sometimes).
I’ve been doing this but with the bondi sick as (which I got years ago because of your vid on it) The benson preamp + sick as is glorious, has become my main drive sound.
Wait, - what happened with the Sunrise Strat? Don't remember the relic job, but it does look awesome; the battering jobs look best on finishes that were just too pretty in the first place, like the tobacco bursts, and clear/ quilted types. It was disturbingly clean, but you should go farther, - do the neck, crack away all that poly. I was a little surprised when you jumped off on the (stupid $) Klon, especially when there are many reasonable clones. When you put aside all the pixie dust BS, the Klon is basically a mild mid pushed ,buffered boost, - and I think the buffer is key. ( I like the Sick As better, as far as the type goes.)The magic in the combo is 75% Benson,- though, like the Klon design itself, the key is the combination of elements.IMO, the Benson pre amp will come to be considered every bit as " classic" as the Klon, the TS808, or the Germanium Fuzz Face. Personally, I'm a Hudson Broadcast guy, - but I get it.Like maybe the Broadcast fed into the Sidecar.
I'm working on a video on the Strat now. Neck is relic'd as well, and the guy who did it pushed the checking on the poly finish as hard as he could. Will be lots of close ups in the video!

Centura into Zen Drive is also a winner.
True North makes great stuff! Ive got the Tweed anx Northern Lights

thanks for just spreading good vibes here! 😄 that's why i keep coming back to your channel! "Pre-CBS player plus strat" 😄😄😄❤️
Everytime he gets to the point when he introduces the klon with an "I'm sorry" I LOL.

Haven’t yet! Might be. I think the mids from the Klon helps too.
Is the Keely Ox Blood Klonny enough ya reckon? Cause that's what I got.
I had no desire to get a Benson Preamp, but now? Geez man that was MASSIVE
Thank you Ivan~
Yes thank you Ivan
That definitely sounded killer bro. The Les Paul and the Detuned guitar sounded fantastic.
yeah man!
I do the same but with a morning glory with a tube screamer or clean boost
nice! I miss my Morning Glory
I have a KTR and Benson Preamp on my board and was surprised at how well they stack. Love it
Dude, you're the best. I am about to buy the Benson preamp to stack it with my Manticore v1 (Klon clone)... what amazing timing you have.

What tuning are you using on the strat? Thanks for the video btw. sick sounds
benson preamp is my fave pedal. I'll try my soul food with it !
do that!
Been thinking of running a Klone before the Halberd. Now I'm extra convinced!
whats a Halberd?
@@LivingroomGearDemos the electronic audio experiments pedals is what he's referring to. I have a few of their drives and they're all top knotch
just bought a V1 KTR for 750 AUD today than the overpriced 3-5K so super keen to stack my KTR with my walrus Eras distortion and TS9!
I may wait for the King of tone or I'll just buy a Benson as both stacking it for KTR would be sick!!
It sounds incredibleeeeeeeee
indeed!
Sounds killer! Also, did I miss a video or can you talk about the relic on the strat??
haven't yet! Will do next week :)

Luckily RUclips knew I had these two pedals!!!! (well, a Centura, but we all know the drummer won't know the difference).
"Sponsored by myself" lol class
Really interesting! I’ll have to try running my Klon Clone in to my Benson!
Everyone in the comment section already has a Benson and a klone! Thats awesome
@@LivingroomGearDemos I have the Emerson Custom GoldenFace Golden Drive, just don’t know how it sounds next to the real thing
now try their new germanium Benson Boost into the Benson Preamp
Fantastic Klon-shopping cutaway 😆😆
😁
Not keen on the full Monty sound, but the TMG sounded good with volume rolled back. Great video as always - some fine gags in this one too!
Monty sound?

oh I miss my Sick As!
I just made a video a couple days ago On my channel with those 2 petals and explaining how I like them set out fuck
A little bit of Green Manalishi, always surprised with the licks you use in your vids damn
did I play that? I've never heard of them! When did I play that?
Klonson ,dual OD
Thank you Ivan! Thank you Benson! Thank you Eirik for buying the overpriced pedal 7 years ago!
Thank you James!
I’ve been running the Automatone into a Mjolnir for the last year or so. Sort of similar but with the pedal order reversed🔥
Hmmmm I wonder how it would sound with a broadcast instead of a benson hmmmmm 🤔
probably sounds sick!
Kvelertak!
💪🏻
Wheres the explorer w the new bkp pups?
On the wall. Haven’t changed pickups yet!
Been doing that with the Archer and sounds amazing
everyone in the comment section already owns a benson preamp!
The benson preamp is the fuzz whisperer. Never use a fuzz unstacked. Never do it.
will try!
So if you take the op amp mostly out of the circuit why even spend the money on the pedal?
The klon you mean?
@@LivingroomGearDemos yeah.

yeh bruh
Well…that strat aged quick
Bought by my grandfather in 1962. Played everyday for yeeears
@@LivingroomGearDemos oh sure. that tequila sunrise finish was only offered in 1962, this is 1/29 ever made

Is your house made out of Ikea walls? I just came to the realisation that every distortion you demo sounds like a Rat
It's not my house, it's my studio. But yeah, it's an Ikea studio called "Emil". Every distortion sort of sounds like a Rat, maybe thats why
Reminds me a little bit of the tone I get with my Buffalo FX Evolution

get it yooo
