- GoFundMe is a platform where anyone can ask for money for any reason. This would typically be used by people in genuine need who are in a rough spot, but the fact that there's practically no quality control means that random children can use it to ask for TF2 items. This is a collection of terrible TF2 themed GoFundMe campaigns, most of which are likely written by small children who have no means of making money themselves. Or something like that.
Please don't go onto GoFundMe and make something like this. I did it for your entertainment so you don't have to.

9:17 THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL GOFUNDME FOR THE EVENT. TF2 LAN has an official Crowdfunding Campaign where you can donate directly to the event from the website. Please be careful about recommending something like this. The GoFundMe seems like one guy is trying to get $2000 to potentially attend the event, which they might not even do; this is not a host for the event.
This is actually very good information. Looking over it more I don't think it's a scam, but I definitely should have read it more carefully.

You're right, this isn't the official TF2 LAN Campaign, this is someone who wants to participate IN TF2 LAN but can't afford to do so. It says at the bottom in 9:35 "All donations will be used for [...] travel and accommodation". Great Blue misinterpreted the campaign as the official donation goal.

Gofundme does take a cut of the money and because of this limits how low you can ask for money. So the $5 gofundmes might've been the legit people trying not to intentionally ask for more than what they needed.

10:10 The explanation for this is actually very simple. It's called the minimum amount you can add to the steam wallet at a time is 5$.
If you go to add funds over the steam's website and not the client, you can actually add a custom ammount of money by editing the transaction page's ammount in the web code.

I still don't really understand the scammed backpack ones because you should probably reach out to Steam support or something, not just go buy them again right away.
Steam support doesn't redo or refund scams since like 2014 since people abused it to duplicate items, thats how tf2 duped unusuals were made. They still redo cases where it was a mistake on steam support side and very valuable skins were lost wich actually happened quite recently in cs:go

It’s REALLY bold of them. The community is willing to bribe valve employees to focus on TF2 and not CS:GO for once.
Their goal was to throw the money at the devs working at valve to convince them to work on tf2. If you don't know, devs at valve get to choose what projects to work on. It's completely in their control to work on tf2 or not.

funny thing is I can imagine taking a whole team off of a major project to spend a few months fixing and updating TF2 would have an opportunity cost exceeding that 150K, or possibly event he 1M. They could effectively be losing that money even if they got given the money as a grant.
