Amazing, especially at her age! Maybe elementary school students who are just learning the soprano recorder (the type of recorder she is playing) should get to see videos like this, so that they don't develop the idea that recorders are just squeaky instruments that never sound good.
+Electric Dave Some people just have natural abilities that are far beyond most people. When I was 12 years of age I was very competent at mathematics and was fascinated by calculus. The Recorder is the "sports car" of the woodwinds. It is the ultimate responder to the slightest touch and breath, even the beginner plastic Tudors and Yamaha tenor pieces. Lucie has shown amazing fluidity and intuitiveness with her instruments over the years. Would that our American young musicians draw inspiration from her.
It is very rare that a young musician in America would get some inspiration from something like this. Usually, they will watch this video and say "Hey that's cool!" and that would be the end of that. Lucie's dedication and discipline are the driving factors of her success (and help from her parents, of course), and these are rare qualities of American students, these days. Very recently, I showed a similar video and the one of Frans Bruggen playing the Bach concerto BWV 1053 (originally for keyboard, which, BTW Lucie also recorded), and they made the aforementioned reaction, and nothing more. No desire. Even the students that I taught flute to, had no interest in the instrument. Much less, the recorder, which I also play. It's a bit sad to think about, but it's a reality we have to contend with. 🙂
Nederlands are really a paradise for classical music! Victorsarmaniego is right! It's beautiful to see the interest that dutch children show towards the classical repertoire! This girl is a really AWESOME musician and the orchestra (very good) is entirely composed by young people. In my country (Italy) is almost impossible to find a similar situation! Here, the average public is interested in american pop music, and that's a pity, because we have been the motherland of a lot of great musicians!
A very talented young musician, isn't she, and I love that cute suppressed grin round 1.30. she's enjoying herself, and so did we! On visit to Brugge, we watched three young girls playing violin, cello and viola in the square, and they had a big crowd round them, all very appreciative, heaps better than rap! I'll watch for Lucie when she's on a world tour down in New Zealand!
It could be annoying but in this case when you play a rhythmically colourfull piece a stable clap is very usefull for children, that's why the conductor also does it, so it is intended and not ramdom as in many other cases in any kind of concerts.

I saw her in an interview with Team Recorder. Apparently her parents, who were also musicians, made her practice a minimum of ten minutes a day before she could go off and do something else. It wasn’t the duration of the practice as much as making sure it was consistent. It probably helps that she’s a recorder prodigy.

I come back to watch it again in 2024.
