Bill could have literally stuck to his guns and sent Frank packing but he took a chance and was rewarded with something he probably thought he'd never have... love.
That's what I love so much about it. He knew the risks of getting attached and distanced himself from the possibility. But Frank appealed to something Bill thought he lost: his humanity.
Yeah that’s not love
@@keandregreen5628why not?
If he literally stuck to his guns, then he would be stuck to guns, because that's what literally means.
@keandregreen5628 answer the damn question ok..WHY IS IT NOT LOVE!! ANSWER OR STFU
The real reason I loved this scene is cause you get to see their COMPLETELY different personalities. Frank starts off with playing it so upbeat and almost with a happy feeling. Then Bill steps up to the piano you see how more quiet and serious he plays it. It’s such a great metaphor for their personalities in general. Frank has happy-go-lucky personality traits and Bill is much more serious person, but he has so much heart and so much passion which is definitely displayed in his rendition of the song. Just a little beautiful moment of love
There was just something so beautiful about how Frank just KNEW which music was Bill's, and that he turned out to be right. The fact that the song he chose to play, that he said was his favourite, happened to be Bill's favourite too (shown by how Bill knew it completely by heart) was just so pure and sweet. It's something that instantly connects them. And actually shows how alike they are, they just express themselves differently. The way they both play the song so differently shows not only their different personalities but also the different experiences they've both had in their lives and how those experiences affected them and shaped them differently. Like you say Frank was the happy-go-lucky, carefree, positive one whilst Bill was the more careful, cautious, serious one but deep down had so much love he wanted to give and... also always wanted to one day receive.
And they balanced each other perfectly.
Bill taught Frank how to survive. Frank showed Bill how to live.
He played with the book closed showing how he sang from his heart ❤️
And in a different key.
This was one of the most emotional parts of this episode, it really got me when bill started his sad version of the song reflecting on all these years he went by surviving totally alone.
I’m still cry 😭
This got me too. His sad version. I was NOT expecting this from Nick Offerman and I am sooooo glad to be so surprised.
@@bryanlobesz7293 l was not expecting it either. They did a really good job here.
One of the most emotional parts of the series, i would bet... such a touching moment
What struck me about this scene...he didn't need the sheet music to play the tune...probably knew the piece by ❤
This scene and whole episode brought tears to my eyes , deeply moved me and brought me to a place that I was not in for a long time. It was phenomenal.
It had been a long, long time, a?
This whole episode was an absolute tearjerker and a better character arc
For bill
This was Bill's good ending
I've watched it multiple times since it came out and I still get emotional. What a great love story.
I wish I could hear full version billy sing of that song..
This episode is by far the best I have seen in TV. Tears were just rolling down my husband's and my face. So touching and endless.
I’m gonna need a full version of this Bill, please and make that ASAP. Being dead is not an excuse.
I though that Franks plan was hitting him behind the head at the end, but they ended together 😂😢
That's what my mom thought and I was like omg they are gonna fall in love, I was right ♡
Well he did hit him from behind ,just in a different way😳
@redhood8852 you goblin! 😂😂😂😂🤦♂️
When Bill sang, I cried like a baby. My sis, who is 42, has 12 weeks to live. I'm devastated 😢
I'm so sorry. 😢
@kimtaylor4982 It's OK, Kim. She has gone now. She went last week. Thank you for your kind words ❤️
Sorry for your loss @@sammy5674

One of my absolute favorite scenes.
Glad he got an Emmy for this role
"Love will abide.
Take things in stride.
Sounds like good advice,
But there's no one by my side.
And time, washes clean,
Love's wounds, unseen.
That's what someone told me,
But I don't know what it means,
And I've done everything I know
To try and make you mine.
And I think I'm gonna love you,
For a long, long time."
No words have captured the pain so well as these.
Don’t mind me just gonna sit here and shed man tears
i just came back to this episode recently with a friend of mine who had never seen the show. when frank got bill to sing i immediately start to tear up but when “and i’ve… done everything i know… to try and make you mine… and i think i’m gonna love you… for a long… long time” nic offerman you just took every nerve in my mind and body and i want to cry for hours. i don’t think i’ll ever not cry when seeing this again, because believe me i have to come back to this incredible show every now and then.
This episode was sooo sad 🥹 deeply touching and beautiful.
it was pure love.. loved how everything evolved and bill become a better person with frank.. lots of tears watching ♥️
The world can end and turn into a nightmare, hope can die, but the one that can never die is Love because as long as there exists one person in this world so will love.
Love will abide
Take things in stride
Sounds like good advice
But there's no one at my side
And time washes clean love's wounds unseen
That's what someone told me
But I don't know what it means.
'Cause I've done everything I know
To try and make you mine
And I think I'm gonna love you
For a long long time.
Caught in my fears
Blinking back the tears
I can't say you hurt me
When you never let me near
And I never drew one response from you
All the while you fell all over girls you never knew.
'Cause I've done everything I know
To try and make you mine
And I think it's gonna hurt me
For a long long time.
Wait for the day you'll go away
Knowing that you warned me
Of the price I'd have to pay
And life's full of flaws
Who knows the cause?
Living in the memory of a love that never was.
'Cause I've done everything I know
To try and change your mind
And I think I'm gonna miss you
For a long long time.
'Cause I've done everything I know
To try and make you mine
And I think I'm gonna love you
For a long long time.
I cried ...so touching
Perfect song

Simplemente Hermoso, podíamos esperar escenas musicales como las que hay en el juego, simples y llenas de emoción a flor de piel.
Esta serie ya me está dejando en pedazos,la amo.
FACTS
This episode ending was depressing to watch
Kind of, just because they died. They probably had the best post-apocalyptic life than anyone in the world ever had. Went out happily and on their own terms
Beautiful…..nuff said
Someone I knew put it perfectly “bill probably could’ve survived just fine without frank but he wouldn’t have lived. Because things like the strawberries don’t make him survive longer but they help you live”

This song in this episode servessss
Most beatifull love history which I know 😥❤️
that outro is a total buzz kill
"This is you..."
A red Cruz moment
Great scene and great song.
I thought Frank was going to cut Bill's throat in this seen.
Why does it end short?! wth
I humbly believe, this episode made me a better person. :,)
Where are the tissues

I just thought frank was gonna bash his head in the whole time. Everything he closed his eyes I cringed
Love the game and the show, not much on this episode but guess it is what it is,
I was really touched when Bill played the piano and sang.🥲
Nice moment
One of the best parts in television history
When Bill said “There is no girl” was a defining moment for him. He could’ve easily lied and said he was playing for his wife or girlfriend or whoever, but he told him the truth. That’s how deep he felt the connection.
Either that or there was no one to be afraid of anymore.
"It's my favorite"
Frank mumbled that before starting to play.
So they were both kinda being vulnerable, and the character of frank was introduced as "being a bad liar" so Bill took the comment at face value.
Part of the scenario was it was the end of the world, so there really wasn't a real reason to lie to one another,
part of it was that they didn't want to.
@@j0ellyfish you dont know the lengths men will go w hate in their hearts
@@deaththekid5445 Oh, I know.
and frank replied "I know". Whole scene is beautiful
The acting by Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett is amazing, it's like you're in the room. Bill is increasingly unable to stand Frank playing "Long Long Time", not just badly, but like a jaunty jig. Bill's "No, No, Not This Song" tells us so much. A song about unrequited love is precious to Bill; Bill doesn't need the book when he plays/sings, he knows it by heart. Frank's subtle facial expressions speak volumes; he sees into Bill's soul. Bill presents himself as a stereotype; a gun-toting misanthrope. Reality is far more complicated. Bill is highly cultured, and he's an incurable romantic who always believed in true love yet endured a life without it. If I didn't know better I'd think I was watching a scene from a brilliant Jane Austen adaptation. This is the best movie I've seen in years and it's a bottle-episode from a series about a zombie apocalypse. People speak about how love endures and about the redemptive power of love. This story set in a broken world where all chance of love and redemption shouldn't exist proves that it's real. This deserves all the awards.
Well said mate
Very good comment.
damn. yeah
What? I like when the raiders got set on fire. YeehAW!
Well written!
Frank: *Plays Long Long Time like a show tune*
Bill: ... and I took that personally.
this episode made me believe in love again
Does that mean you love me Lewis?
@@Arthur_StJohn yes
If I was Craig Mazin I would feel honored by comments like this. To evoke strong emotions in people is everything an artist strives for.
yes
This episode means so much to me. Growing up being told how bad this was and believing I couldn't love like this was so damaging, and this episode just made the me feel fully and entirely affirmed that I do know who I am. There hasn't been doubt for years but this just made me feel like it's always been okay.
Yeah man! You're great and I'm proud of You!

I hope Nick Offerman gets recognised for his performance in this episode, by winning some awards. He is so good.
He's been nominated for a guest actor emmy (Along with three other actors from this show)
That episode was wonderful to watch. Both actors were so good together. Very well done. Both deserve awards
He won an emmy for it. 1000% deserved.
Instant classic television moment. Amazing game with an amazing story, but now also, an amazing show with an amazing story that is not exactly as the game. How lucky are we to have this?! Cheers!
@@marcusmaire8197 I mean the game version is a game version. There's no way you could narrate Frank and Bill's story in a game. The TV show might be completely different but its goal is to tell a story. And love it or hate it, HBO's The Last of Us is doing an incredible job
@@marcusmaire8197 the kiss was awkward indeed. I think she was panicking 'cause the infected woulda killed her, instead of dying in the explosion as she had planned
@@marcusmaire8197 it's almost like she wanted to kill the infected so they wouldn't go after joel and ellie 🤷♀️
Here before this blows up. This will be a classic moment in history
You could feel the connection between them instantly. The way Frank looks at Bill as he plays, you can tell he feels it as well. This episode was so beautiful.
you can just TELL by the vibes man, this was such a cute episode
I had to say, the contrast between Frank version of the song being more “comedic” and “fast”, was completely shadowed by the beautiful, sad and good version of Bill’s.
Both versions perfectly encapsulate their personality. Frank is impulse but having fun, while Bill is methodical but with a hidden warmness
I still want a full version for both of em.
Would love for them to sing a duet version...
@@caronstout354 I want all 3! Bill singing alone with his sadder version, Frank alone with his Comedic and Fast version and Both of them singing at the same time and Combining the Sadness and Happyness.
I think I’m gonna love this scene, for a long long time.
Normally it's the original source that is the best part of any adaptation. But what they did here with Bill and Frank was so much better than what was in the game. Not saying the game was at any fault. This story could've only been told in a tv show format and I am so glad they made this incredible backstory for Bill and Frank.
I’m glad they added more to it because in the game, Bill is nothing more than a McGuffin that gives Joel a car and a shotgun, and we never see or hear of him again. HBO fleshed him out in a way that made me like him
This episode will do for "Long Long Time" and what Stranger Things did for "Running Up that Hill".
this episode made me feel what girls feel when they watch Titanic
Amazing scene, they made a grown man cry today
I was watching last of us with my bf. I didn't have a liking for zombie series, felt like there were one too many these days. But Bill and Frank's story arc really hit me hard. And Offerman's version of this song, was just so raw, gripping with emotion. Was literally melting when I watched this. It's a bittersweet feeling that they fitted Bill and Frank's story all in one episode. But it was done so effortlessly and their relationship came so naturally.
And I love that they fitted Offerman's iconic laughter in the episode! Love it! 😂🤣✨♥️
Nothing like any other zombies series.. you see the clickers..wait until you see a bloater or a shambler
@@thetruththewayandthelife803 maybe I should get the game huh. Maybe I'll be way more well informed of what is coming up next 😜😂🤣
@@leamarietang3212 frank and bills story ain't nothing to what's to come 😉..sit tight 😊
I'm gonna love ya, for a long, long time... That hits really hard...
What an emotional scene! Hard not to cry with them! Kudos to the creators
Honestly Frank’s version wasn’t inherently bad.. he has a good voice, it’s just his lack of emotion and the way he delivered the lyrics to the song needed work
Playing the same song differently... A fantastic display of the show and game. Both different, both beautiful, the same but it's own thing through tone.
I thought Frank was gonna betray Bill but it turns out they had something real. This was a beautiful episode.
When Alexander Solzhenitsyn said beauty will save the world i kinda feel this is the sort of thing he was talking about
One of the best moments in television/music history 🤷🏻♂️
This scene is so brilliant, it shows that despite being a paranoid loner, bill is cultured and has love in him, I prefer this version of him over the games version
The episode was absolutely beautiful but part of me wishes their last/perfect day had included then singing this song as a duet.
OMG YES
if this was Glee maybe XD
Wonderful moment. Thanks for uploading but not sure your outro music quite fits the tone 🤔
It's January 2024, I just dropped my daughter off at dance, and am sitting in the parking lot, crying like a fool watching this
I think about this episode all the time since it came out. Did not think it could ever turn so beautiful, and sad 😢 incredible talent
I love the look frank gives to bill when he is singing. He has fallen in love and realised that bill has too. Maybe it’s because I know that feeling too
Episode 3 of The Last of us, will be forever remembered, as a classic!!!!!!
I honestly thought Frank was gonna wack him wih something while he was playing and take his s#$t
This song is really special and really elevated this particular story for me. I like how they took the time to make this relationship real & beautiful
Thanks for abruptly interrupting the video with a loud outro
After the shows all done an over they should make a bill an frank spin off of there 20 years
I'm so happy that we got a background on Bill and Frank. I always wished we could in the game. And these two acted perfectly! This is one of the most beautiful episodes I've ever seen.

Our beloved Ron Swanson just won an Emmy for this beautiful performance and I can't keep calm!! 🎉🎉
as a fan of the game and show, this is the scene i keep coming back to
this episode breaks my heart every time i watch it. same goes with this song
I was so close to tears in this episode 😭
just finished this episode. shed real tears. what a beautiful couple they were
Funny how he's playing it a whole step higher.
Frank was killing it. Both renditions were good.
I wonder what Linda Ronstadt thought about the episode. Frank ends with a condition similar to hers.
I love how Frank's gaydar was going off the moment he met Bill, and it all culminated in this beautiful heartwrenching episode.
Loved this .. such a beautiful love story in this series ❤
