I cried so hard when Sergei died. They were so much in love and you could see it. When Scott Hamilton had a memorial professionals skating to help raise money for her and her daughter and for charity, she skated alone but made it look like he was there and then knew he wasn’t. So tragic.
David is an Olympic Gold medal champion as well in figure skating. I think it is hard for the public to accept seeing her as a grown woman (40s) with kids who are in their 20’s. Also hard for us to see everyone aging, changing partners, and other life changes. Empathy for all because life is tough. Aging ain’t for sissies. Positive thoughts for everyone all these years later (2023).
Very well said. I think many of us keep the image of young Katia in their minds. As someone close to Katia's age, I love seeing her continue to skate and embrace life.
Please we must stop comparing Katia’s partners on the ice or in life! Look at her smile for she enjoys being on the ice! Skating is one of her greatest loves….. speaking of loves. Yes all if us would have wanted Sergei and Katia to live happily ever after forever! 😢sadly it was not to be. For what ever reasons which is of no concern to us her second marriage ended in divorce. Forget the rumors - now she is married to David. Let us all pray that Katia has a very happy union with David. Sergei has been gone for over 25 years 😭😭😭 it is so heartbreaking. I can’t imagine how she must have felt to lose her partner, best friend, husband, lover and the father of her child! It was too perfect maybe. Katia had a chance at love with Ilia. Regardless of the reasons they parted, I felt sorry in part for Ilia. Constantly being compared to Sergei , they were two different people. She married him and we all should have respected her choice. My goodness she was a 24 year old widow, of course she would not want to remain alone forever. Happily she has David, may she be happy for the remainder of her days. She has suffered so much hardship, losing Sergei, her Dad and going through a divorce. Both marriages I am sure Katia imagine it would last, however unforeseen circumstances befall us all! She entertains us with her graceful beautiful skating every time she steps on the ice…. We will always remember Sergei when she steps on the ice 😭 but that was the past unfortunately. She is living in the moment with David, may they have many years of happiness! I applaud this woman for keeping Sergei’s memory alive and tucked in her heart. I appreciate David for making her happy again! 💕

Ilia Kulik & David P. look okay when paired with Katia but Sergie Grinkov and her had an untouchable chemistry with this beautiful in sync flow that no other figure skating pair has. When they skated it was like if they were one not two, a mirror of each other. RIP Sergie we still miss you and think of you.

There will never be another Sergey. They were a beautiful pair, loving couple, Sergey had alot of strength to hold Katia. Miss him. I'm an American but they were the best I have ever seen. Sergey died so young with a heart attack. People say how can a young healthy man died with a ❤ attack. Being a nurse we get many young heart attack patients that are between 25 - 40 n healthy. Many times it is genetic defect that was never diagnosed. Don't get me wrong, there are good skaters performing very well but a married couple gives that special touch. My friend was a great skater but didn't make the Olympics
I feel that Sergei is dancing with her in her mind and heart. Maybe thats what she wants to do. Thru ice she wants to feel the spirit of Sergei and touch him. I can understand that.

Secondly all the elements like lifts, the death spiral, etc also require great strength by the female also (she has to hold herself up in lifts). Btw lifts are as much about timing as strength. To your correct point Sergei Grinkov did have a genetic heart defect. His father also died young for the same reason. Some people assumed that the intensity of being an elite athlete reduced his life span. In actuality his healthy lifestyle was later credited for extending his life span.
They did it!!! They got married! Now if we could just see them skate together again. Dave is the first one that I think lifts her and makes her feel the way Sergei did, you can just see the chemistry together. She has waited so long to find that again. So happy for them both.

I have always loved Katia and Sergei and was devastated when he passed 3 days after my 20th birthday. They were perfection on the ice and the love story was amazing. David does remind me of Sergei a bit but he's not as big as Sergei was. Sergei always made Katia look so tiny. I am so happy she's found happiness and hopefully third time is the charm.
David Pelletier is just as good a partner for Katia. Physically he resembles Sergei and is just as devastatingly handsome. They make a great match. I've always thought he was just too good for the high strung Jamie Sale, and knew that union wouldn't last. She's all about herself. Katia on the other hand was too sweet for Ilia. Despite all that talent i felt Ilia was a bit shallow for her and they just did not fit as a couple. I'm happy for David & Katia & hope third one's a charm - that they will be happy and successful with each other for the rest of their lives.

I’ve always thought so, the grace and expression of a Bolshoi ballerina. I had the privilege of seeing her and Sergei perform in ‘95 just before he passed away. Makes me want to cry to see her skating again with a real pairs partner.
Its so hard to beat her first love and chemistry...I am so happy to see her pair skating with new partnery yet Sergei brings her best on ice. I remember that over Sergei lifting, she trused him and did all kinds of performance on air. It was so beautiful to watch.
Good for Katia for giving marriage another try, I hope she is truly happy...but Sergei has been and will always be my dream man so I don't know how she moved on from him. Sergei was GORGEOUS, talented, athletic and he seemed humble and charming with a gentle humor (just guessing, no way for me to know). We live our lives in layers. Just like the layers of rocks in the earth, each rock layer tells a story of that period of time. When watching this video I felt that same love shine through in their performance as I remembered her and Sergei. That relaxing trust and comfort in their movements. David and she make a wonderful couple on the ice. Her private life I know nothing that I can personally comment on. But I have and do enjoy watching her build all the layers of her life with such artistry.

There's simply no one in skating like Katia Gordeeva. With her skating skills, divine stroking, and absolute openness to the emotion of the moment and of the music, with the lovely expressiveness of her arms, she's splendid. I'm glad to see her skating pairs again, very happy. And their smiles at the end show me that David and she both have missed pairs skating. But I wish he'd wear basic black. Those jeans, with rips and fading, detract from the overall effect.
I agree his costume is an odd choice. I wondered if those jeans were an intentional choice because of the song, "..inside the pocket of your ripped jeans..." And you are right. Nobody but nobody skates like Katia.
Nobody besides Katia Gordeeva can just skate and be absolutely breathtaking and mesmerizing without jumps, spins or throws. Unless it was Sergei Grinkov. I remember one time a commentator was trying to figure out why and how they had that floating quality that no other skaters had, and some skater replied that it had to do with putting equal weight on each foot or something like that. Not to mention the Soviet ballet training. She is unbelievable.

I believe Katia can definitely love again, but there will never be another Slove like her love to Sergio. I think that they were the love of each other's lives, they were each others soulmates. They were so beautiful Oglethorpe and had such an amazing love story. I not trying to take the love she has for anyone else away from them, it's just that there love, is a love you just don't see today in life. I love Katia, she is such an inspiration to so many. I would of love to have met this beautiful mother of 2 amazing daughters. She inspires me to be a better wife everyday!
I've always been a fan of both couples David and Jamie as well as Katia and Sergei. They both skated with wonderful partners and made their mark on the skating world! Since then there personal lives have changed, one through personal choice and another through the untimely death of their partner. I remember that my husband called me at work to let me know of Sergei passing as though he were a family member. I am also aware of Jamie and David's divorced back in 2012 that was also a personal decision that they made not only for themselves but to protect their son. So I believe that they both made the ultimate sacrifice in their own way; so they are now entitled to just a little bit of happiness and they seem to have found that with each other. Jamie is happy and has found a new life and I'm sure that Sergei having love Katia the way he did would want her to share the Joy, Beauty and Happiness he enjoyed with someone else. I personally believe that it's selfish of people to keep comparing each one of them to their former partners and their former style of skating. They are forming their own lives and their own style and that style would be based on the love and respect that they have not only for one another, but showing respect to their former partners. Katia is happy, David is happy, the only thing we should be doing is congratulating them and wishing them the best in their future endeavors

I never like how she smiled when she was with Kulik. With David, I think what they have is a mature love and companionship. She looks a different kind of happy.
Yea I was surprised that they extended a long relationship together knowing that they were not a good match. She looked sad when she was with Kulik during interview or TV coverage.

We live our lives in layers. Just like the layers of rocks in the earth, each rock layer tells a story of that period of time. When watching this video I felt that same love shine through in their performance as I remembered her and Sergei. That relaxing trust and comfort in their movements. David and she make a wonderful couple on the ice. Her private life I know nothing that I can personally comment on. But I have and do enjoy watching her build all the layers of her life with such artistry.

There's simply no one in skating like Katia Gordeeva. With her skating skills, divine stroking, and absolute openness to the emotion of the moment and of the music, with the lovely expressiveness of her arms, she's splendid. I'm glad to see her skating pairs again, very happy. And their smiles at the end show me that David and she both have missed pairs skating. But I wish he'd wear basic black. Those jeans, with rips and fading, detract from the overall effect.
I agree his costume is an odd choice. I wondered if those jeans were an intentional choice because of the song, "..inside the pocket of your ripped jeans..." And you are right. Nobody but nobody skates like Katia.
Nobody besides Katia Gordeeva can just skate and be absolutely breathtaking and mesmerizing without jumps, spins or throws. Unless it was Sergei Grinkov. I remember one time a commentator was trying to figure out why and how they had that floating quality that no other skaters had, and some skater replied that it had to do with putting equal weight on each foot or something like that. Not to mention the Soviet ballet training. She is unbelievable.

I believe Katia can definitely love again, but there will never be another Slove like her love to Sergio. I think that they were the love of each other's lives, they were each others soulmates. They were so beautiful Oglethorpe and had such an amazing love story. I not trying to take the love she has for anyone else away from them, it's just that there love, is a love you just don't see today in life. I love Katia, she is such an inspiration to so many. I would of love to have met this beautiful mother of 2 amazing daughters. She inspires me to be a better wife everyday!
I've always been a fan of both couples David and Jamie as well as Katia and Sergei. They both skated with wonderful partners and made their mark on the skating world! Since then there personal lives have changed, one through personal choice and another through the untimely death of their partner. I remember that my husband called me at work to let me know of Sergei passing as though he were a family member. I am also aware of Jamie and David's divorced back in 2012 that was also a personal decision that they made not only for themselves but to protect their son. So I believe that they both made the ultimate sacrifice in their own way; so they are now entitled to just a little bit of happiness and they seem to have found that with each other. Jamie is happy and has found a new life and I'm sure that Sergei having love Katia the way he did would want her to share the Joy, Beauty and Happiness he enjoyed with someone else. I personally believe that it's selfish of people to keep comparing each one of them to their former partners and their former style of skating. They are forming their own lives and their own style and that style would be based on the love and respect that they have not only for one another, but showing respect to their former partners. Katia is happy, David is happy, the only thing we should be doing is congratulating them and wishing them the best in their future endeavors
