I can watch this wonderful couple perform for hours! I remember their gold medal performance at the 1988 Olympics, and I’ve admired them every since. Their artistry and perfect unison is unmatched by ANY pairs skaters in the history of skating! Not to mention the total devotion and love they had for each other. Sergei’s untimely death was such a tragedy and loss to Katia and all of those fans like me who loved them. Thank you Katia and Sergei for the joy your beautiful programs continue to give to us all!❤️
Perfection...today's pairs unison are sloppy, yeah I said it. The artistry/beauty of pairs is gone and those triples/quads will NEVER match this exquisite pair!

@@jamiejoonks Yes, I recall Katia saying somewhere that the Russian doctors measured her pulse after the quad, and it was very high. Also, at that time, the quad did not appreciably increase their marks. So, taking a of the aforementioned into account, they decided to omit it from their programs. Also, at that time, no one else was doing quads (I don't think), so everyone was rather unfamiliar and nonplussed.

To prawie 30 lat temu, ale gdyby dzisiaj wystąpili z tym programem, też mogli by wygrać nie jedno złoto. Cudowne wspomnienia o cudownej parze. Wielka szkoda, że karierę tej cudownej pary przerwała przedwczesna śmierć Sergieja. Wielki szacunek dla Katii, która pomimo bólu po stracie męża, ojca jej dziecka i partnera na lodzie, poradziła sobie z życiem bez niego.

Талантливых фигуристов много, Сергей был и остается абсолютно уникальным. Он - лучший парник за всю историю ФК, обладавший всем набором на 10 из 10. И это не мнение, а факт. Непревзойденное владение коньком, интеллигентный артистизм, идеальные линии, надежность в поддержках и выбросах, красивая внешность, умение при этом не лезть в паре на первый план.
The best ever. I’ve been watching for years and have never seen anyone that can compare to them. They have it all the talent and the expressions of love. I can watch them over and over again. I really miss them and performances.

Nobody else seems to have noticed but Sergei had a very scary moment going into his camel for the side-by-side spin combination. He almost loses his footing, is then out of sync for quite a few revolutions then miraculously regains timing on the sit spin. This pair often had timing issues on their spins, presumably on account of their height difference. They were not perfect but certainly very beautiful to watch. It was Sergei who made several minor errors in the long programme too. I think they were lucky to win.
Commentators pointed it out at the time. Also M/Ds quality was not the same, and they also had mistakes that just never get pointed out because they are a lot more sloppy in general (I don’t mean that as an insult, their style just wasn’t as crisp as g/g, but they were very passionate)
@@jamiejoonks The point is, if they had exchanged their programs, GG would have no trouble perfmorning the program of MD as “passionately” as MD did, but whether MD could deliver GG's program is a big question, as GG's lifts were beyond Arthur's ability, not to mention the skating skills and lines.

Zhuk was a rather abusive trainer including lots of arbitrary decisions, personal transgressions and misconduct (eg. alcoholism, harassment...) A lot of skaters started to refuse working with him and understandably so. Gordeeva and Grinkov were skating well before him and blossomed after they traded him in.

Gordeeva and Grinkov become champions for the first time when they trained with Zhuk. After leaving Zhuk, they continued to win because they had a powerful technical base laid down by Zhuk. You don't know this, so don't write nonsense. Stanislav Zhuk was a brilliant coach, known all over the world. Gordeeva loves to blame everyone and consider herself a victim. Gordeeva is a bad, selfish, unpleasant person.

Sergei’s lips were so pale in both performances. In 1988 they were a healthy red. It is strange that health professionals would not have noticed such a visual sign of heart disease even if most of us don’t really notice such things.
I always thought he looked blue in Lillehammer but at the time I thought it was his Russian complexion. I truly think it was one of those things that some people noticed but never grasped the true meaning of. If his complexion was blue or pale, it unfortunately made him look even more like Prince Charming.

It was so strange to see them “only” do a throw double twist. I always loved how fast they skated, even in shows. They were true skating.
Remembered reading her book that they did learn the triple but during that time it wasn’t yet common thing.
