    What I found with these instruments is that though they have different tunings, basically all of the songs you know on the guitar you can translate to the ukulele, not using the same chords( though you definitely can do that) but the same chord shapes, the songs would be in a different key but it sounds quite nice translating guitar chord shapes to a ukulele

    Actually, I found nylon strings on the ukulele alot harder on my fingers than the steel on the guitar. I find guitar different for two reasons. 1: Due to my skinny fingers pressing certain strings on barre chords requires more pressure. 2: the guitar neck is longer, alot larger. 3: Can require more hand stretch. Both require the same the skill set to play at a high level. But I love the portability and robustness of the uke, and that alone is a huge positive.

    • @Hopkins955
      @Hopkins955 2 года назад +1

      That is the thing I tried the guitar of my brother and the guitar can get so unfomfortable because I have to stretch my arms all the time because the guitar body is somewhat too big. Then my brother said well the ukulele is basically the smaller guitar.

  • @5688gamble
    @5688gamble 3 года назад +6

    I play both, ukulele is easier to just pick up and play but they both have a different sound that fits well with different things. If I'm going out and I want an instrument to play, I'd gravitate towards the uke because it's far more portable and it works great for just strumming a few chords, but the guitar has more depth and range. I may even try a melody on a recorder, violin or mandolin to change it up, I actually really like the violin but it is very hard to learn, mandolin helps though, feels like a guitar in many ways, but the tuning is the same and the scale length is close too depending on the instrument and seeing the frets helps me visualize the chords and scales. The uke is kinda my go to for a fun instrument I can just pick up and play effortlessly though, maybe one day the others will be just as intuitive!

    I'd say the difficulty difference really presents itself in fingerstyle. Yeah playing chords, it's really not that much more difficult, in fingerstyle though you start to really notice how much easier it is to have a finger for each string or to be able to just use a thumb and 2 fingers.

      @itsMizaa 2 года назад +5

      Motivation and passion. Put your guitar in a floor stand or hang it in the wall where you can usually see it every day in your house. In that way, you will be drawn to play it.
      I was a complete beginner when I bought a guitar as in 0 experience. It had been sitting in it's case for almost 2 years I think, and then one day, I persuaded myself to take it out, and start practicing.
      I learned through RUclips tutorials. I bought all the materials that could motivate me not to give up on it again. I hang it in my wall, bought several humidifiers and temp monitor, tool kit for changing strings/low action etc etc, I changed its strings to a more easy gauge (as I have small hands 🤣 thankfully, I successfully changed the strings by myself with the help of watching tutorials)
      The first few days were very frustrating as I was impatient on getting to know the chords + song in just one sitting 🤣 I almost gave up again, but I told myself that I will practice bit by bit and persevere with it. Changing/switching chords was one of the hardest when starting, not just the strumming, but you'll get there. Just practice little by little, repeat one chord first until your muscle memorizes the shape it made, then gradually increase it to another chord, then switch between them. The pain in your fingers will always be there especially if you'll be like me that play or practices in a couple of hours or days 🤣)
      I write the chords/tabs/strumming pattern that I want to learn (from RUclips guitarists that made tutorials) in a guitar notebook or you can do in your phone/computer/tablet/ipad 😊
      I can now play easy songs (strumming) as long as there are no barre chords or plucking (my small hands can't do it yet, I tend to mute the strings when I try to practice that chords or play style 🤣)
      I suggest you start with an easy piece or song that you really really like to learn, in that way, you will be motivated to master it 😊
      I just started a few months ago on guitar, and now I want to buy a Ukulele, so I could bring it when I travel 🤣)
      I know this is a long message, but I hope you find it useful :)
      If you have more questions, I can be reached at at my IG, snapchat, fb, yt or email, just look for it in my channel here :)

    Is it a little unfair to say that Guitar is harder than the Uke, considering they are difficult because of different things? Cuz for the Ukulele, the difficulty is stretching to play more difficult chords and melodies (As seen in JS's arrangement of Bohemian Rhapsody), while for the Guitar, its hard because you have more strings to cover.

    Had an acoustic around 14 years ago and tried to learn to play but I didn’t enjoy it because my hand are smaller so some chords were tough, also kinda hated how big the body of it was.
    I’m hoping to get a uke for Christmas, I think I’ll enjoy learning to play it a lot more.

    I’m 37 with music background whatsoever. Is it possible to learn now or is it unlikely that I’ll get good at this? And which instrument is easier to learn? Thank you 🙏

    I just bought ukulele because I couldn't play on my guitar _the strings were too high., and even after they have been lowered professionally, I still couldn't start to play it, it was too painful and too high! But now I kind of regret getting it, I'd rather buy another guitar with the lowest strings ever

    • @devilslettuce7339

      In the beginning its painful and frustrating and hard but you get over it soon if you keep on practicing

      get nylon strings for guitar, it will not be as hard. plus with time, you will get hard skin on fingers from playing anyway.

    • @itsMizaa
      @itsMizaa 2 года назад

      Get a 10/47 string gauge, will be easier with fingers. It will still be painful especially if you practice few hours to days + if you press down your fingers hard on strings-- that is not right as it will be so much painful on your fingers.
      I just started a couple of months ago (self taught, zero experience on guitar). If I can do it, you can do it too 💪
      Just be patient with learning, and soon you will be happy with what you learned, either a song or piece you've been wanting to learn or a technique in strumming/plucking/fingerstyle.
      Don't give up! You can do it!

    The only difference is that guitar has 6 strings and a ukulele has 4 strings. Both can be tuned differently in the standard E tuning. EADGBE for guitar, EADG or DGBE for ukulele. I played my friend's ukulele and it definitely feels like a small guitar. Rest is none. Ukulele can also be fitted with steel strings too.

    • @gausscone
      @gausscone 3 года назад

      I've read that ukuleles often are not built to structurally support the tension of steel strings. Composite strings with metal windings is another thing, but steel-stringed guitars do have some remarkable design to prevent snapping in half. I'd like to know more about that friend's ukulele. Was it a non-baritone tuned to DGBE? I ask because baritones are, among ukuleles, uniquely tuned in DGBE for whatever reason.
