  • I got a Bravex propane torch for Christmas and I was anxious to light my Yukon Solo Stove with it to see how fast and easy it lights. I also created a heat deflector for the solo stove and wanted to see how well it works and share the results with you.

Burning OSB is not a good idea. Fumes are most likely toxic.

Very curious how the deflector worked out - 1) how much heat do you feel over top of it (not directly, but if you go 5-6 feet above, is there heat), and 2) how has it held up from use - is the metal warping, etc. from being directly over that intense heat? Love the DIY of it all.

We ended up only using the deflector 2-3 times last winter. I never checked how hot it was 5 feet above it. I'll have to do that next time we use it. As for the second point, the metal has warped a little bit, but not as much as I thought it might, considering how hot it gets. Maybe I'll do a follow-up video to show what it looks like after multiple uses when it's about a year old.

You need a lesson on which wood to burn

I have tried to find a large stainless steel pizza pan, because, I don't think that aluminum would last. So far no luck. If you ever do a follow up video, maybe you could take temperature readings of the top itself. I plan on using it to cook on, and am curious if it would work for that.

I did aluminum and It didn’t work well. Bought a heat shield for outdoor heaters made from aluminum. I thought it would melt it and deform but it hast yet. It doesn’t push the heat out like that and don’t know why

I was thinking about doing a follow-up video. I'll take temperature readings when I do.

Although Solo Stove’s heat deflector is expensive, it is made of stainless steel. The pizza pan is aluminum, and therefore far less durable.

This is true, I think that it's probably worth it to get the solo stove's heat deflector if you are going to use it a lot and want it to last.

Is your solo stove the Yukon 1.0 or 2.0 ?

      Ours is the 1.0

The 2.0 came out just a month or so after we bought it!

@@JonMorganMadness Thank you. I just picked up a brand new in box yukon 1.0 fro $170. I want to start doing mods. One of which may be turning it into a 2.0, building the heat deflector and a few other things. Luckily I am in the FAB industry do I should be able to make everything pretty easy. Thanks for the quick
