Washing machine fills with water | replacing a washing machine inlet valve

- If your washing machine fills with water after there could be a couple of things causing it. The drain pipe might not be set up correctly, which is enabling water to run back into the machine, or the water inlet valve could be passing. In this video the water inlet valve is passing and will be replaced.
If you are not sure about the water inlet valve being faulty, you can simply isolate the valve to the washing machine, if it no longer fills with water- you know that the water inlet valve is faulty. It is useful doing this, if you have a machine with a hot and cold supply, as it is not always obvious which valve is faulty., by isolating one valve at a time, you can find out which one is passing! - Хобби
Recently, I just seem to be fixing my home appliances, but I’m sure the washing machine and tumble drier will be good for a few more years now. I hope everyone has a great Sunday 😉
BEWARE - washing machines contain high voltage capacitors (up to 500 volt). Unless discharged, these capacitors retain their charge even when the machine is unplugged from its electric supply.
A very old washer repair man once told me that if your washer is older than 5 years it's wiser to buy a new one. This was a good video on how to fix the problem. Top man.👍👍
Why?
I think this machine is about ten years old, it’s been very reliable to be honest, and gets used a lot, especially with the kids swimming regularly!
Thanks for the comment 👍
I assume you mean the rubber grommet and not the whole washing machine 🤣
Expect 10 years plus or you have bought some junk machine.
👍👍👍Great info. Thank you
Great video! Inspirational and well explained .👍
Thanks so much!
Thank you. 😃
Thank you. I’ve never had to change one. But this is very handy to know about in case the issue arises in the future. Cheers! 👍👍👍😁
Yeah, machines are pretty reliable these days. I still can’t believe they can make replacement parts so cheaply!
Thanks for the comment 👍
I've replaced one of those on an old Samsung top loader, same principle but accessing it required a little extra work to access it, but I got there in the end. Those screens inside the inlet valve can be a problem in my area...
To be honest, I thought the filter would be blocked with debris, as we had a burst supply pipe right outside the front of the house a few months back!
Thanks for the comment 👍
@@ultimatehandyman Mine was plastic swarf from when the plumber replaced a blown section of water pipe in our building, he used a saw cut the pipe filling it with black swarf that he failed to flush out. Took me a while to work out why my machine was filling so slowly LOL Thanks again for a great video :) Glad you're back again
@@ultimatehandyman It could have been fine debris from that burst that got through the screen and damaged the seat of your original inlet valve. I guess you could perform an autopsy on the failed valve if you still have it :)
I normally connect everything up, and switch it on before replacing the top cover, just to check for internal leaks.
You’d have to put the machine on a test run though, which I would not recommend, or else the water will just stop at the inlet valve- until it is energised!
Thanks for the comment 👍
Many thanks 👍👍

Thanks, you too!
great instructional vid mate .....not sure about the lips 👄 everywhere 🤣
Now you just need to show people how to clean the water filter if the washer don't drain. Anyway that's one easy fix even I could do.............maybe 😂
🤘😎🤘
Thanks for the comment, Wayne 👍
Nooice!

If you can, avoid Hotpoint washing machines. They are built NOT to last.
All machines seem pretty reliable these days. I have seen expensive Bosch or Miele machines break down too, which makes you wonder if it is worth spending the much higher initial purchase price in the first place. One thing for sure, is that machine breakdown insurance, is a complete rip off!
Thanks for the comment 👍
I agree, I personally avoid all Whirlpool brands now, the motor in my Indesit machine (same factory as Hotpoint) started screeching due to bad bearings after 18 months of light use. Previous machine lasted 20+ years.
