"Hitting a rock with eggs" is a Chinese proverb which basically means "To attempt the impossible" (you can't break a rock with an egg, instead the egg will crack and shatter). The reason why it says "A present from The Assistant" is because it's impossible for a measly assistant to confront his boss. In this instance, Mark is comparing himself to the measly assistant, challenging those above him (he actually hits a rock with an egg in the music video). However, unlike the assistant, he is actually able to do the impossible-- surpassing his "boss" (or people who think themselves better).
They did a behind-scenes video where Mark chats with the producer (dress, who worked with him on Child as well) about the birth of this song and the many meanings layered into it. It was directly related to the Gordon Ramsey tweet, not so much because he cares about his cooking but because the fans have kept this joke alive in the fandom for the last 5 years! So much so the producers worked it into NCT's variety show NCT World 2020. They also chat with the MV director etc. It's called "Bon Appetit! Enjoy the song" and it gives a great understanding of the development of it. And makes me very excited to one day get to hear all the songs that Mark and team are creating. (Mark also worked eggs into his SuperM trailer back when they debuted in 2019 and also in a t-shirt he designed when 127 did a collab with SlowAcid so this is not a one-off symbol or reference for him.)
2:45 ok so no... This whole song is quite literally about how our homeboy doesn't know how to make eggs... It's quite adorable really. But the backstory to is that one fan tagged Gordon Ramsay in a picture with Mark's cooked eggs or rather uncooked and captioned it with -" my boyfriend was making eggs.. what do you think?” to which the chef hilariously replied, “Get back on Tinder!” which was years ago... And now our fully capable Mark Lee has come up with a banger about it... And Gordon Ramsay even reacted to it. Also it's quite hilarious they way Mark decided to end the song... With the Wait but what does that mean- referring to how "fans" On the internet say things like oh it's Mark he doesn't make sense when he talks.... Dude just threw shade in the most polished way😂
You have to watch Mark have a challenge to cook 23 sunny side up eggs for 23 NCT members because of that Gordon Ramsay tweet meme 😂😂 🍳🍳🍳 It was so hilarious
The egg reference is from a fan tweet picture that Gordon criticized Mark's fried egg which the egg wasn't good at all. So it became lyrics written by Mark himself and now a NCT lab video 😅
So there was a show with all 23 members of NCT and they each had an individual challenge nad Mark's challenge was to make 23 sunny side up eggs. He was absolutely terrible at it. Then at some a fan tweeted a picture of mark trying to flip eggs with chopsticks at Gordon Ramsey saying "My boyfriend making eggs what do you think Gordon?" And he responded "Get back on Tinder." And so that is where the I dont know how to make eggs comes from also the playful call out to Gordon Ramsey lol. Also he constantly posts sunset photos on his Instagram along with very deep captions but the fans often clown him because we dont understand what he's saying so him saying "But what does that mean?" And laughing is him calling us out and himself with the sunset photo 🌇. He managed to make a song that has so many inside jokes and still make it about getting the girl even if he cant make eggs lol. He's honestly a genius and the production on the video is incredible im glad they kept the egg theme going throughout. Im sure it is confusing to someone outside of the fandom but to the fans its just incredible.
A couple years ago a fan tweeted a video of mark cooking eggs ( which he failed miserably) at Gordon Ramsay saying that this is how their boyfriend made eggs and Gordon tweeted to get back on tinder In my opinion there’s a double meaning Like yes this quiet literally happened But also I just think it’s a song about sex
I mean, I LOVE Mark and LOVE his music and think he is such a kind a genuine person. But I really take issue with this song... does anyone else know that in the egg industry, male chicks are thrown in a large blender on their first day of life because they can't lay eggs? And the female chicks get the tip of their beak cut off so they can't peck at each other when they are tightly crammed in a big shed which is the standard for "free range". And egg laying hens only live for a year before their bodies are spent from laying an unnatural amount of eggs and are sent to be slaughtered at a fraction of their lifespan. Chickens are living beings with feelings and It is completely sinister to treat them like machines. The song mentions and uses eggs as if it isn't a big issue when in fact, it is a violent and exploitative industry funded by people who consume eggs. Once again, I have nothing against Mark and truly support him as an artist, but I think Mark as well as more people should be aware about how we exploit animals. Mark said in this world, everyone is being everyone but themselves. People follow the social norm without questioning if the norm is ethical. So I invite you to ask yourself whether your daily actions of paying people to abuse animals to eat their flesh & secretions or to wear their skin reflects your values and beliefs. Do you value non-violence, compassion, and equality? And would boycotting these products help you become closer to who you truly are and want to be?
how dare Mark was made a song from meme of him self (about eggs) so good 🤣
