FAMILY, FRIENDS GATHER FOR NATASHA RICHARDSON
Liam Neeson looked distraught but grateful for the outpouring of sympathy as he greeted grieving family members and friends who attended a private viewing for wife Natasha Richardson on Friday.
Neeson was the last to leave the viewing at the Upper East Side's American Irish Historical Society, where he was joined by the couple's sons, - Michael, 13, and Daniel, 12 - as well as Richardson's mother, Vanessa Redgrave, and sister, Joely Richardson. An array of famous friends came to express their sadness about the family's sudden loss.
Neeson hugged friends as he left the society's building at 8:40 p.m., after more than six hours of receiving condolences from friends including Mike Nichols, Diane Sawyer, Matthew Modine, Ralph Fiennes, Uma Thurman, Ethan Hawke, and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Also among the stream of visitors were Kenneth Cole, Laura Linney, Fisher Stevens, Howard Stern, Stanley Tucci, Julianna Margulies and Mathilde Krim of the American Foundation of AIDS Research - amfAR. Richardson had served on the charity's board of trustees since 2006.
"She looked incredibly beautiful," Krim said, adding that everyone appeared to be in shock and Neeson looked distraught as he received everybody.
Earlier Friday, friends continued to express their grief over her death from the fall she took on a ski slope.
"Natasha was a very close friend of our family, so it's been a very, very sad few days, and I think it will stay that way for a good while," Matthew Broderick said.
Actor Jonathan Cake said: "I had dinner with her Saturday night. ... She left to ski the next day."
Theatres in London's West End dimmed their lights Friday to mark Richardson's death, just as Broadway theatres did Thursday. In a tribute to the stage and screen actress, the lights were lowered before the curtains went up on evening performances.
Theatregoer Andrew Nicol of London thought it was fitting. "We must not forget she was a fantastic actress in her own right, but also she was from the Redgrave family, who have given so much to the U.K. in terms of acting," he said.
Richardson, 45, died Wednesday at Lenox Hill Hospital after falling at the Mont Tremblant resort in Quebec on Monday. The New York City medical examiner's office ruled her death was an accident.
Nearly four hours elapsed between her fall and her admission to a hospital. The director of operations at the emergency services company that sent paramedics to the resort told Canada's The Globe and Mail newspaper the actress initially declined medical attention, but a second 911 call was made more than two hours later. Medics returned and tended her for a half-hour before transporting her to a hospital a 40-minute drive away.
Montreal's top head trauma doctor said Friday that the lack of medical helicopters in the province of Quebec may have played a role in Richardson's death.

I have always loved Vanessa Redgrave...and her daughter was lovely, I was heartbroken for them when I heard of the tragic loss. So sad. Was looking up brain traumas etc and her accident came to mind. Her loss is a lesson to all. Wish we could turn back time on this one.💔🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I do feel for Vanessa Redgrave, No parent should bury a child
People have been known to refuse medical care because they think it's a minor injury and later things turn much worse. I once fell and hit my head and didn't go to the hospital untill the next day after encouragement from others, but luckily I survived,.

People need to take any head injury serious and get checked out or at least call a doctor and explain what happen and let doctor ask certain questions because this is serious better safe than sorry she was a great person and we will all miss her dearly.

I can't bear to look at Liam Neeson here: he's one of my favorite actors, and it hurts me to see him upset. Still, I'm glad his friends were there to support and comfort him; it's especially nice to see Ralph Fiennes in the video.

I cannot believe the degree of judgment you have. You seem so heartless and moreover nasty, very very nasty in fact. Go ahead, blame the victim. Yes, she made a mistake, don't we all do? Maybe not you of course. And you speak of God, well, God is seeing you right now and he certainly will judge you for your despicable thoughts. The fact is that she is dead. Ultimately it doesn't matter at this point whether or not it was her fault. This is a problem with your interpretation of religion, to you it's all about punishment. Actually, lots of people interpret religious beliefs as constant punishment. The bad side of people to make them feel better.
Further, you scold people for having empathy for Liam. Yes Liam "is a person like the rest of us", does that mean that he and "Detectivefiction" cannot have grief, Liam for Natasha and "Detectivefiction" for seeing Liam's pain? I'd be ashamed to thing and write such thoughts.

Vanessa and her family certainly had a bad time in those couple of years, and my sincerest sympathies go out to them.
Natasha Richardson(Daughter) died March 2009.
Corin Regrave ( Brother) died April 2010.
Lynn Redgrave(Sister) died May 2010
