I was a Police Officer for 27 years, you'd be amazed by the stupid things people call law enforcement for. I was once dispatched to a person complaining that their neighbors sprinkler was getting their grass wet. I went, the sprinkler was still running when I arrive. I expected to see flooding and damage in his yard, nope his grass was fine. Less than 6 inches of this man's yard was barely getting wet. That was mainly because the wind was blowing the water. It was also the only green part of his lawn. I politely and professionally explained this was not a police problem.

If the homeowner had *no prior knowledge* that the tree was weak or diseased, the limb breaking during a storm was an act of god and not their responsibility. The neighbor with the car had the legal right & duty to get the overhanging limb trimmed back to the fence line at any time especially if they felt their property IE car could be damaged.
Diseased trees do *not* always appear sick; in fact, many diseased & bug infested trees will look completely healthy.

I’ve personally seen the first happen and I’ve seen the aftermath of the latter one.

We have a neighbor that has a toy poodle with severe separation anxiety. The owners leave her home alone with all doors and windows open for the whole complex to hear the barking all day. A few of us neighbors have been outside when the owners come home and have tried to tell them the dog goes nuts when they are gone, but they completely ignore us and continue talking to each other. It had been there overnight and for one morning. The crazy old people (all mutually exclusive states) wouldn’t listen when I tried to explain I was going to move it AFTER our driveway had been used by 4 or 5 other people (yard work related) sporadically coming to our house.
This was the MORNING after we moved in. We were bringing stuff into the house past midnight and my little civic got in the way more than not, so I put it in the street. One last part. When the cops wouldn’t force me to park in the driveway (they suggested I should but said they couldn’t legally do anything) these people threatened to have my car towed and sue us. Did I mention that my grandparents live on this same street?

Where I live, property owners are legally responsible damage caused by their tree, even if an act of nature occurs. My insurance will literally contact the property owner's insurance or if property owner if they don't have insurance, they'll sue them. It's in the property owner's best interest to pay for the damage caused by their tree most of the time. This is why I trim all of mine. Found out about all of this when I broke my leg in my yard on ice and the health insurance company wanted to know if the injury occurred on my property. Trees are worth $1,000s, so if the neighbour just went & chopped down their tree one day, you'd better believe they'd have to pay (& probly face criminal charges for destruction of property). Yet when that same "property" falls on the neighbours car & land, suddenly they think they're not responsible? Smh.

When my German boxer dog was three months old I went to an area I could let her from the leash but of course, since she was too young she was at the leash, just a longer one. Came a jogger I didn't see around a corner and she was having fun and jumping in front of him. I needed a few seconds to get the leash short so he had to jog slower. Due to lack of sleep we all got sick very frequently and this constant tiredness drove us even into depression. My mum almost lost her job because she overslept several times and was late for work. We argued with the neighbour several times and his answer was always "I don't understand what the problem is. I got used to it and it doesn't bother me while sleeping. My neighbor asked if he could trim it, I told him he could cut it down. If that thing ruined his roof, I would have been responsible. I should have had him cut down my other tree too. It’s roots are now growing above ground. 😩 I guess they didn’t plant it deep enough.

Depends on your state laws. Here the homeowner is responsible for any branches on thier side of the property regardless of what side the tree grows on. Though I would consider it a courtesy to trim branches that over grow on a neighbors property.

    • @meoowrie1540

I totally agree with this comment. It is also common courtesy to think ogf what might happen. We cut some of the trees in our property because it could be dangerous to passerby in case branches fall off or something.

Yeah but the one with the barking dog is understandable. Our neighbors have a poodle who is very badly trained because they treat him like their baby. Nearly every day at seven a.m he starts barking because they let him outside that early. And then that continues the whole day. He always barks when he is bored or just someone walks by even on a distance or someone he has known for ages. It‘s really disturbing. I don’t know how many times I wished he would shut up or just finally die (he is very old) so it’s calm again in our neighborhood.

Also, the neighbor that keeps trimming the neighbor's tree branches needs to be wary. If excessive branch cutting and trimming DO kill that tree, and the tree is on their neighbor's property, their neighbor can take them court and sue the everloving shit out of them! And they'll win, too, and it will get expensive like you wouldn't believe!!! Bottom line, you don't F*CK with tree law!!! It will Eat. You. ALIVE!!!

@@nela3986 Some people just get so self-important. I moved about ten years ago, and before the move I had easily just the best neighbors ever. They were always polite, kept to themselves, any issues (mostly minor things) could always be discussed and a compromise could always be found without having to raise voices or acting out like toddlers. The neighbors I have now... well, let's just say that it's when you have the neighbors from hell, that you realize just how good you had it when you miss your old neighbors.

I find these so weird. Like, I don’t even know my neighbors’ faces let alone their name or phone number. I’ve NEVER, EVER socialized with a neighbor. People actually do that?

    • @bcaye
      @bcaye 3 года назад +4

I know them, we're friendly. We don't socialize. My one cat socialized with all my neighbors and I got lots of mail when he passed about how special he was, that was nice.

I socialize with all my neighbors. It’s actually good to in most cases. Especially if you have an emergency. Oh and their more likely to stop someone from stealing your amazon package if they know and like you.

Back in my day 😂 we knew all of our neighbors, were friendly and socialized, could count on each other for help and such. It would be smart before moving (especially buying a home) to check out the neighbors - as they can literally turn a dream home into a nightmare experience

In my experience that is a very suburban thing to do. I have lived in rural areas where nobody knew there neighbors unless it was through school/work/church and in major cities where nobody knew their neighbors but in suburban areas everybody seems to know everybody for better or worse.

07:40 Actually in the US you can. In most states if a tree limb falls from a tree in your yard onto another persons property then you are liable for the damages as it is your tree and your responsibility to keep it trimmed properly to prevent damages.

In Australia we have pretty specific law's with property perimeters & damages. if a tree fell from one person's property damaging another's you'd think the initial neighbour would be responsible.. at least I think that's how it works.
And the neighbour was pretty polite with asking for help for damages due to the tree. Either way why can't people just be kind helpful neighbours ?
NOT to mention that her husband lost his legs... & the other party responded so incredibly sensitively. Despicable.
Funny how people take ownership of EVERYTHING on their property until it inconveniences them.
The poisoning dog comment was disgusting too.

A tree fell on my car at work during a storm and almost totaled my car and my work paid for it without me even having to ask. Plus they paid for a rental car while it was being fixed. So I don't find her request out of line either.

You are actually correct - if your tree falls on your neighbours house you are indeed responsible for damages. As a property owner you are totally expected to inspect trees/limbs etc regularly and trim as needed!

When I see the side you chose for, for instance, the tree falling and the dog's Jessica, I think you might actually be a terrible neighbour on some aspects.
By some countries laws ( and not only murica), you are considered responsible for the tree falling as long as it's on your property and you planted it / allowed it to grow / did not take care of it. And that's kinda logic. You're responsible for the hazard it generates. Only in the case the tree was already grown up when you moved in, and it was in perfect health, are you not responsible. In any case, with the neighbour being disabled, and the tree being on your property, even without a law for this, it is the DECENT thing to go out and help for the cleaning, even if it wasn't a tree from your land.
About Jessica and the dog... well she's just texting for every bark. That's a way of making the owner realize how annoying his dog is. If he gets separation anxiety then DO SOMETHING , get a dog sitter or i don't know what. if not for the neighboors, then do it for your dog!

My in-laws got into a war with their crazy backyard neighbor. She’s an old lady that they share a fence with. She has some crepe myrtles growing right by the fence that she never trims or prunes, they just grew wildly. My in laws asked her multiple time to cut back the branches that were growing really far into their yard, dropping leaves, petals, and seeds or whatever on to their pool deck and into the pool (that my mother-in-law would then have to clean out daily). They eventually got fed up with her refusing to do anything, so they hired someone to trim the branches on their side back to the fence line. She then ran outside screaming “THATS CREPE MURDER!!! CREPE MURDER!!! IM GONNA CALL THE POLICE!!” (100% serious, I wish they had videoed). The tree trimmer just kept working while my father in law shouted back at her to calm down 😂 Eventually her husband came out and got her to chill and come back inside, no police were called, and they keep their shrubbery in their yard now 😂
