This is a satirical sketch with a version of Cornershop’s Brimful of Asha. It was on the weekly programme Polònia on the Catalan channel TV3 on February 29, 2024, with actors made up as Catalan politicians. In the sketch, the person listening to the records is Pere Aragonès, president of the Catalan government (Generalitat). His party, the Republican Left of Catalonia (ERC), has a minority government, which is in the process of negotiating with other parties to get the budget passed. The man singing in the video is Salvador Illa, leader of the opposition Socialists’ Party of Catalonia (PSC), and he is bragging about how the ERC government needs his party’s support because the ERC has only 33 seats out of 135 in the Catalan parliament. The PSC, not being very socialist, is using its bargaining position to get the ERC government to agree to plans to build the Hard Rock casino project in Tarragona. The woman singing in the video is Jéssica Albiach, leader of the left-wing coalition En Comú Podem (“In Common We Can”). She sings about how Pere Aragonès also needs the support of her group, which has eight members of parliament and is opposed to the Hard Rock casino plans.
