- This was my first time sparring with Phil Engeroff. He's a pro muay thai fighter with lots of ring experience in Thailand. It's great moving with someone new who doesn't have an ego and can challenge me without sparring to create damage.
Find good sparring partners. They make all the difference.

Thanks for uploading consistantly even tho u are in ur camp
Yeah hugely agree it's great
Ooo-weee! Awesome content, champ!
Great video. What the average Joe doesn't understand is that you guys make it look so easy with the good form etc., but it take years to get to that point. Even being able to maintain an upright position for extended time while remaining near the pocket is SO hard! Very nice and thank you for sharing. Gives me a goal...
Well said homie
so true. i've been watching my own sparring videos and notice how much my hands drop during the round even though it feels like they're up when I'm in the moment
Just like a K-1 commentator said one time: "The easier it looks, the harder it's to do it."
1:38 Check out a quick mini tutorial on the high level sweep landed in this sparring session.
I love when I drill something and then 2 days later I land it 😄
great, heres the thing though.. You talked about the russians sparring too hard...
if you have someone like that, what do you do?
Do you tell them to chill out? do you try to match them and fall in to their trap? Or do you just say, ok thats enough, spar with someone else!
Will you ever lift the mystery about the two different shin pads?🤔
My assumption:
One gives +5 boost to dexterity the other boosts +5 strength
Such a high standard of sparring. A high technical level, moderate intensity, and high volume. This is exactly how you spar without serious injury or brain damage risks whilst still actually improving your fight skills in a practical way.
1:00 - teep to fake to other side knee. Loved it when I saw it first in Superbon v Grigorian, he nearly lifted Marat all the way off the floor with the force of his knee. Beautiful setup
I really enjoy the sparring breakdown! Hopefully we can get more of these in the future
For sure. And I'll be going faster in a few weeks so the rounds will be more entertaining.
I humbly appreciate this sparring breakdown videos. Thank you, Gabrial. :)
This is some beautiful technical sparring. Literally everything looks perfect form.
thank you for your content !!! much love and respect from germany !
amazing sparring partner, a joy to watch
Beautiful work! As usual, humble, no ego, just pure martial art spirit. Keep up with the training camp videos!
Keep up the great work Gabriel! Looking forward to more updates from camp! Stay motivated, stay rested, stay SHARP!
Its really beautiful to watch you in this fashion. Your real fights are too fast, I can't comprehend them. Here I understand more.
Great sparring, technical and light
Seeing this video makes me think that coaches should periodically show footage like this to their students to better understand proper etiquette and what good sparring looks looks like.
Your movement is always so crisp Gabriel, I always think you almost look like a video game character with your perfect form
Géant sparring , très motivant et inspirant , gros Merci !
His reaction to getting swept tells you he is a stand up dude.
super cooler typ, dieser gabriel varga. vorbildlich umterwegs. like.
Loving these sparring videos!
Glad you like them! I'll keep them coming as I pick up the pace in camp.
This is awesome to see. Your tutorials are fantastic but the sparring helps put things in perspective. Keep up the good work!
beautiful stuff mate already looking sharper!
Hi Gabriel,
I really like your fight camp videos. Especially the sparring and drills videos you did recently.
Please make more if you can!
Have a good training camp Gabriel, I give you the blessing of no injuries
Great that you have a goal to focus on during the training camp. It really helps when you have something you want to work on, because it kind of ties all the things you're trying together into one underlying concept.
Nice sparring! High volume mid/low intensity. I'm very curious how much you'll up the intensity as the camp goes on. Great content as always!
Thank you for this! Sparring tonight at new school for 1st time in years.
Very nice! More sparing please😁
i appreiate these videos love the tempo!
Nice editing for sparrings review
Looking strong Gabe! Can't wait to see the next fight
This is amazing content. Theres a lot to learn from every second of it, at least for simple amateurs like me. Head positioning, fakes, that sweep, etc.
Im very grateful for this channel
Shit that’s the best kind of sparring
Nice well executed and controlled sparring, love to see that. I just had 5 amazing rounds with partners at my gym today so this video just makes me ride that high again, thanks.
loving these breakdowns
Beautifull sparring. I apriciate level of control both of you have. I mean control of ego.
Wish I had sparring partners like this.
Thank you for uploading this kind of video. I learned alot from just watching you work your techniques.
Glad to hear that!
Loved the break down of the sweep!
But I have major problems on how much power and where to hit. Some say at he base of their foot and some say higher up at the calf 🤷♂️
Would love more sparring videos! ♥
Great stuff. Strong teeps. Excellent sparring partner. One way to force more head or just body movement might be to target the back leg. The close-in Dutch shell is great with the big gloves but... Plus in and out jabs with the smaller gloves do a lot of work.
Keep up the good work, love the videos
These are the best videos love the breakdowns
Great sparring
Good spirit, nice techniques, trying to find openings and working combinaisons.
💪
Great video. Keep posting video like that.
Insane stamina, I do 2 minutes with half of the movement and I am dying^^
I'm certain few good places would object having a nice friendly world champion coming by to train. They're getting as much out of this as you are. You train, they get to train with you, and we get cool footage. Everybody wins. :)
1:49 is nuts
Amazing footage the in camp videos are great you should do one of yours runs in the morning as like a vlog style thing that could be quite cool 👍
Love this vids
more sparring footage with background commentary would be great! its amazing content, and i think i say that for most of Your viewers
The sweep at 1:40 🥹
Can you talk about the rhythm step in the next video? Pros, cons, why people do it, how to do it and not get caught, etc.
yea I heard from someone who was training at tiger in the late 2000s and they said that whenever the Dutch guys came in… it was war.
Very good nice sparring advice you are just damaging each other for no reason
Hi Gabriel. In regards to the first sweep. How did you execute the timing so well? Was the kick telegraphed to you? Do you preemptively throw your own kick with the goal of landing a low kick or getting the sweep? Or was it purely good reaction skills through drilling?
Keep the great content coming. thank you
Can you make a core workout !!
Great 👍
I blinked and missed it ^^
Phil has some legs. Damn
nice sparring
Hey I know your pretty busy with being in camp training hard if you ever have free time at some point could you make a video on how to counter leg kicks because I have a fight coming up with a shorter k1 fighter and he kicks low often thanks Gabriel 🤙
What I found that works is to constantly try to get to the outside of your opponent's lead leg, that will put your opponent in an awkward position to hit you. If you're on your opponent's outside, and he's on your inside you are in a much more advantageous position, both for defense and offense.
Gabriel, why don’t you use headgear when sparring,
When you sweep the leg, is it a normal low kick movement? or are you hooking it back a bit?
Gabriel ... Can u make a video abt how to make your fighting style ....bcoz i am confused what type of gaurd to use and etc...can u make a video abt it please
I can make something more detailed but start with this one:
ruclips.net/video/w1Y_Ia6EWdU/видео.html
@@GabrielVargaOfficial Thank you Sensei ❤️💪🏼
My coach was saying to spar at 30% but at the lowest 30% between you and your partner since everyone's 30% is different.
Weeee !
This dude's legs are like tree trunks.
How often do you spar in camp?
Why do your shin guards don't match?
Whenever I watch your channel and my nephew's are around only speak esponal and they always refer your last name as verga by accident
Your knee ok?
Why arnt you wearing head guards ? To protect your brain .
Will you also be sparing karate guys if this is for Karate combat ?
Head gear doesn't reduce brain trauma. The studies are conclusive on that.
They protect from bumps and bruises but the head still gets jarred the same.
That's why headgear is out of the Olympics. Plus you get hit more with a headgear on.
I may spar some karate guys. I'll have to see.
Correct me if I'm wrong but you seemed to be going a little hard lol.
I think if you go to hard during sparring in Thailand they a)mob the floor with you and b) your done.
Great video once again. Can you do some more videos on the style of defense that you use, the tight high guard, the dutch style as its called by some? I know you did at least one before but I would like to see more. I find they help me get better at my own defense by absorbing everything in those videos. And to have a strong offense you NEED a strong defense. I use the dutch style myself so this would be particularly helpful to me.
I think anyone who goes too hard in sparring needs to watch this. And this is coming from someone who used to be a bonehead and spar to kill.
Great stuff! More footage please! The flow you guys had is so smooth! 0 ego in the air!
Use the liver combo more it works very consistently because its a level change.
i am just admiring Phil's quads!!!!
Post more sparring
That's a quality sparring partner. Great level of control but still throwing solid volume with some snap.
"the drunken master"
knight to D5...F4...G2
How many ounces do you spar in
I've got on 16oz. I'm assuming my sparring partner has the same but I didn't check.
Saenchai said in one interview that muay thay fighter that has less than 200 fights is not real muay thay fighter
Nah, you are trying to be fashionable with the blue and black.
He seems to be sparring even lighter then you.
I would like to see a colab between you and Bazooka Joe, that would be awesome
Can you make a vidio about you warming up before sparring?
For sure. Thanks for the suggestion 🙏
Beautiful sparring.
Wonderful sparring
Now I feel like you have the two shin guards on purpose or something... spoke too soon. Hayabusa got some sick shinny's, you should upgrade lol. I'm sure they'd want you looking fresh
Love Your videos!!!
Nice looks like fun
Great example of the perfect mix between flow sparring without losing the pressure and intensity.
Keep the sparring videos coming 👊🙏
I need a sparring partner like this. I was sparring at the gym I go to and one of the guys rocked me kind of good with a hook to the head. Had to take a sec to recover. I'm a 41 year old beginner and he's a late teen who also does Jiu Jitsu. Yeahhhhhh. 😫 The last few weeks have been a bit brutal because there are two people training for a competition.
I thought it was gonna be some super cool like “one is for kickboxing one is more Thai” for the shin guards question but that caught me off guard 😂
Where are you located?
I live in Victoria, Canada.
Love that sweep , u timed it really good. And respect for the guy, he for sure knows control.
This must be one of the best sparring videos I've seen. Magnificent!
