- JERUSALEM, Israel - Former President Donald Trump surprised many people both inside and outside of Israel recently when he came out against a two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He's the first U.S. leader in 30 years to do so.
The 45th president, who said he favored a Palestinian state when he was in office, stated in a recent interview with Time Magazine, “There was a time when I thought two states could work. Now I think two states is going to be very, very tough. I think it’s going to be much tougher to get. I also think you have fewer people that liked the idea. You had a lot of people that liked the idea four years ago. Today, you have far fewer people that like that idea."
Trump was commended by Israel's Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who congratulated him "for his clear words and his return from his support for the establishment of a Palestinian state."

It's about time! This should have been the case all along. The Two State Solution was always wrong. It ignored the reality of the British Mandate and how it was handled. It ignored that Jordan is mostly composed of those Arabs that are now called Palestinians. More of the land was handed off to the Hashemites due to their loyalty to the British during War than was left over for Israel. The rest was handed to Syria. If the Arabs had truly been willing to live with Israel, it would have made sense. So what happened? Why were the Palestinians (named for a land designated by the Romans as an insult after the defeat and destruction of the Second Temple due to the Jewish revolt against the Romans) different from other Arabs? They were chosen to be the focal point of the opposition to the Jewish State. This made them ultimately into victims of Arabic Pride. They are the front line, the cannon fodder, of an extended opposition to the Jewish State of Israel. Creating this People and calling them stateless was an artifact that would deflect blame from the other Arab States that lost the military battle for all of historical Israel, but did not accept the results. They did not have to, because no harm was ever done to the surrounding Arab States or Iran by the Israelis, except in self defense. The concept of long term terror against Israel was born in the bowels of the KGB, where Arafat was schooled. It was a cold war mechanism to oppose the American alliance. Even before WWII, Arab alliances were being used to oppose the return of Jews to the Holy Land. Hitler had an agreement with Mufti Amin al Husseini, who spent considerable time in Germany, that would give the responsibility of annihilating the Jews in the area of Jerusalem, Judea, and surrounding areas. It is no secret. The photos of Hitler and Husseini are available on the web, as is all the relevant information. People are just too lazy to investigate the history. The Palestinian problem is not something that popped up in 1948. Even the term Palestinian was not created until 1967. That was another Arafat/KGB invention designed to stymie the West during the Cold War.

The 2 state solution was implemented by UN in 1947. Israel declare independence in 1948 but Palestinians blew it hoping to grab more lands. This was the cause of perpetual conflict in that region.

Why is it not understood the Palestinians do not want and always rejects a two state solution.
I mean it comes down to negotiations and what both sides can offer and give and promise. If one side offers a solution and it benefits and hinders the opposing side, it's easy to not come to an agreement. Where one side of the world may see it and say how could you not agree to it, the other side of the world sees the whole of it and may not want it. The history of that region is crazy and they are people of a different creed than westerners. That's if you want a real answer tho, but I'm guessing you dont

The first step in a 2 state solution, would be the acceptance of Israel by the Palestinians. We already have a Two State Solution. When the UN partitioned the British Palestine Mandate it created TWO STATES -- Jordan and Israel.
Jordan was created as the larger Arab State, with other bits of the Mandate given to Egypt, Syria and Lebanon.
Israel was created out of the rest of the bits.
They had their chances for 2 state
