    Guys, if you ever see someone dealing with this, and they freak out and turn their system off, KINDLY encourage them to play some LOW LOW notes at like half volume, bass knob on full to cool the coils quicker than just letting it sit for an hour. Have seen it save equipment.

    Yep, I’m relatively new to this stuff. Installed a 12” SDR series SKAR Audio sub about 2 years ago. Used 8 gauge for my power wire, however I didn’t pay much attention to how long my power wire was and with it being about 16-18 feet I realized I should’ve been using 4 gauge wire. Which is why my sub was always distorted if I turned my bass knob more than 1/3 of the way up.
    After putting in 4 gauge wire it sounded awesome with the bass all the way up but after about 15 minutes I smelled something gnarly and saw smoke coming out of the sub box, fml. I’m assuming my gain was up too high, speaker wire from amp to sub was super hot along with the sub.

      Your supposed to set your gain with three bass knob all the way up. You should always be able to have your volume to the highest you play it with your bass knob all the way up. Bass knob shouldn't be used like a "volume". Protect your investment. I don't even use a bass knob.

    Wondering if anyone did any sketchy shit in the back seat because the amp is literally right there (Just saying) Anyone can mess with the gain, bassboost and crossover. it could also be the lack of power, Coil malfunction or way to much power for it.... I mean if he's been playing it since he got it then maybe he just got carried away on the head unit and turn the volume knob pass distortion? There are so many ways on why the subwoofer are smoking but anyway,

      It can be but it's not going to benefit like you would think. It isn't going to give you any louder of a system on output and just lower quality of your bass output overall and I'm talking about on both. You don't want any Bass Boost period but that's just my experience and opinion.

      No do NOT use it. Also your gain setting is NOT a volume.knob, so when you see people say "durrrrr it's so loud and my gains only up half way" .means literally nothing. Your amp can put out full power at no gain it all depends on input voltage.

    the way the output section is designed on those Brazilian style amps is completely different from Korean. The Brazilian amps use the coils in a different way and they unload tons of current on them and will completely blow a hole in them on the slightest of clipping. The amplifiers will work fine especially the Bandas but you have to watch that shit. There nowhere near as forgiving to your coils as a Korean amplifier. You can typically smell your subs get hot on a Korean amplifier but with a Brazilian amp its usually to late.

I have the same amp right now that I used for my 12in Q class L7 and had no problems and the same settings for my 12 is what I used on my 15. So the numbers don’t even match for the smoke to happen. How can it be distorted or clipping when I have a four channel amp on six 6 x 9 and all Kicker OFC wiring all of my grounds are perfect I have 1/0 DC audio OFC FORmy big 3 so Literally there’s no reason why my sub should be clipping or distorting enough to clip because of how it’s been tuned and set up and it’s a perfect set up and I’m was told that I can turn it up at least another quarter more of a turn on the gain knob and much more but I just kept the same setting for my 12 but for my 15 so Even if I did have some smoke today from some coil burn and it still hurts like normal is that mean it’s OK? • @JacobViral
      @JacobViral  5 лет назад +1

      You can go full hammer from the start just ensure you have your subsonic set higher for the breakin periods on the low end depending on your subwoofer box tuning range. So say a 32Hz Box Tuned I would set to 2-3hz below that so 29-30hz subsonic for say 10-12hrs playtime then set it down as low as you want. That's what I've learned works plus what a lot of manufacturers recommend.

    Playing that hard and that long why would he be restricting the air flow by blocking the port with the hatch closed rookie mistake there. Let them baby's breath

      Actually that port is too big. And that door would have to literally be dam near touching to block it and its not.
