This is why I'm making my game, Scott. There's just nothing out there that perfectly scratches the itch I have for a certain wargame, so I'm making it. Brutality and other creators making games have given me a lot of inspiration to do so.
@@LetsTalkTabletop I was okay with that, but when they started inserting politics into it, and then saying "Tic-tac-Toe was always political, you just weren't paying attention" that's when I gave up on it. I found this sweet off brand alternative, it's half the price. It's called "X's & O's", it can sometimes have an overtly conservative Christian tone sometimes, but usually it's pretty apolitical.
If you don't like Tic Tac Toe's choices, that's exactly the way to show it. All the big brands like TTT think their too big to fail but there's always games like X's & O's that are waiting in the wings. Plus with 3d printing, you don't even need to buy their over priced game grids or symbols anymore.
I think especially with developing technology the big corporations can only hold on to their positions at the top for so long. It's hard to see how Games Workshop pivots their ways of making money to stay afloat in the age of 3D printing for instance. Not without major collusion between industries anyway.
I'm worried about you wearing that shirt. I feel like at any moment something bad is going to happen to you and we are going to hear DeForest Kelley say," He's dead , Jim." Good video. Thanks.
Good for you! When you have it all finished I will gladly share it on the channel. I'm glad to hear independent people doing their own thing without the noose around their neck of having to pay stockholders.
That's awesome! You never know what could become a hit. And even if it doesn't become a hit, hopefully you enjoy doing it and it brings happiness to your life. As long as all of your financial well-being doesn't hang in the balance, you are free to enjoy yourself making your craft.
I believe I will just continue to play AOS 3.0. Just like I continue to play Fantasy Battle 8.0. Yes, you won't have access to the new stuff unless you write your own rules. You will, however, have a complete game that can be played forever.
I think you’re correct when you say that the market is getting somewhat flooded. In a lot of ways, it’s what I think keeps people playing GW’s games. Creating a new game system is a lot of work...But it can also be a lot of work for the fan to create local interest in the new thing and build a community. I’ve had that experience, certainly. You show up on a Saturday afternoon intending to demo some great new skirmish game that you found and people just aren’t interested. Maybe they’ve only got one Saturday a month that they can devote to tabletop and done want to spend that temporal resource on an unknown. Maybe they just don’t have the mental bandwidth anymore to absorb a new set of rules. But, unless you happen to be the “alpha geek” in the community, who has the strength of personality to influence others, it’s a slog. And on the subject of “independents just working a labor of love”... maybe becoming wealthy isn’t foremost in their minds, but I’ve heard more than one creative express the desire to replace GW at the top of the gaming food chain. Or at least be big enough to give GW a run for the money. Or maybe be the new #2, like Privateer was.
I agree with you, the crazy-flooded market for indy games does kind of repel people and cause them to stick to "the big thing" out of convenience, high player population, etc. But this year I have heard so, so many people who never spoke ill of GW begin to eye indy games as an alternative, for the cost alone. I think we are on the precipice of a big chance. Not that GW will ever go out of business per se, but people are falling out of love with it. Of course everyone wants to make money for what they do, passion or otherwise, but I've never personally heard a creator have any sort of expectations of overthrowing GW. I'm sure there's some out there, but I haven't seen it. My point was that they have much higher quality and care put into their games unlike the cash-grab slop we get from corpos.
Then we all need to start boosting independent work. Corporatism has led to all our favorite IP's being turned into garbage and all the passion has been taken out of it. We need to stop feeding them not only with our money, but also with our attention.
I completely agree with you. I'm one of the biggest Star Trek fans you could ever meet, but after slogging through the first two seasons of Discovery desperately hoping it would get better, I gave up on all of the new Star trek. Lower decks wasn't bad but it also doesn't feel like star trek. They won't get any of my money until they bring back authentic star trek. If they never bring it back, they'll never see another dime from me. And Games Workshop has also finally driven me away as well. I have valve not to give them any more money. I haven't bought a new thing from Games Workshop in probably a year. The only way you can vote is with your wallet. And if all of the smooth brains want to keep paying exorbitant prices and defend corporations being greedy, then they can just pay the higher prices and I'll find an alternative.

Awesome! Keep me posted on your progress! When it comes out officially I will gladly share it. It is a hard but very rewarding experience.
I guess this sort of advice also applies to story writing…
Man, sometimes you get the confidence boosts in the most unexpected places.
Thank you!
10:22 The audience is willing, but the publishers are weak!
I used to love Tic-tac-toe, until those greedy corporate pigs started trying to monetize everything about it...
😄😄😄 Remember when they added the triangle dlc? It was poorly balanced and game breaking.

😄😄😄. I'll keep an eye out for trouble. Thanks for watching!
I actually started making my game because I got fed up with GW. It wasn’t even the pricing, although that didn’t help, it was game rule changes.

That's why I started writing my own sci fi stories. I'm sick of what they've done to star trek and star wars, and also DC comics.

Needed to be said. Thank you.
Thank YOU!
