I bought the #Barker car, it’s my first MK and I absolutely love it, plenty of upgrades going on as we speak, can’t wait for the good weather, I’m over the moon to have a factory build by the team at MK Sports Cars
Thanks to all the MK team.

I love watching your technicians work. Your shop is immaculate. Very nicely done.

You say it was easy to build and no fabrication but yet you had a "trial and fit" of the loom and some other bits. Sounds a little contradictory on the video. No kit car ever goes together that simply, not even the Westfields. Why do the panels still need trimming etc then? Just trying to get a gauge of what this may be like as a build, as planning on another car soon and MK are in the consideration list.

A difference between 'fabrication' and 'fitting' is commonly observed in the kit-car world. With fiberglass parts there is a little variation between parts from the same mold, depending on the lay-up of the fiberglass cloth in the mold. Therefore a little trimming is normal. This is 'fitting'. Different builders may place the exhaust ports in different places on the car, and selection of things like tail lights will vary. Therefore fastener holes, and ports will be drilled to suit the final needs and tastes of the assembler. This is all part of the process of assembling and fitting the components of a kit car. Generally a Miata based car is a pretty 'easy' kit car. Drive train power and torque are relatively low, and Miatas are rather forgiving and simple cars to repair, tune and modify. So the MX5 Miata is an excellent platform for a beginner kit car. The build you see in this video is quite a 'formal' build, with great attention to detail. Some builders might use the wiring hardness 'as is' and bundle the extra length securely with tie wraps in empty corners of the car. Using the harness 'as is' and taking similar short cuts leads to an 'informal' build. If you are not seeking a place on the podium in competition with your local club, this may be just fine for you. Obtaining the level of polish in the build shown in this video is a matter of choice and not of necessity, for most builders of the car. From 10 feet back, formal and informal builds tend to be indistinguishable.

There is an element of trimming to dry fit the bodywork because the panels don’t come trimmed for this specific model - the bodywork fits both models and all engine installs.
It’s different trimming something than it is fabricating something which is why we say it’s an assembly vehicle.
