I've watched this video several time. very cool. what level of machinal aptitude does one need to pull something like this off? and focus!? i get distracted just doing brakes. which is bad... because you know, brakes. (did I put the clip back? did I do the left side?)
Oh, thank you for watching the video several times! :) surprisingly we were quite mechanically challenged when we started the build. We had some minor experience like swapping brake pads or some filters, but that’s it. It’s just a step by step, one step at a time assembly process, with some scary deviations like drilling or sawing, but overall very manageable. It’s just like eating elephant, one small bite after another. No rush, double and triple checking some things just to be sure. Easy!
All the problems you had with power steering lines and wiring and 2 transmissions and the constant adjustments to basically everything, I might reconsider about that kind of project. I have a 2008 Pontiac Solstice GXP that is keeping me happy, for now, but had thought of this project a few years ago
I’m thinking of buying one with a 427 with weber carburetors; I’m just can’t be bothered with the carbureted set up. Is it hard to convert it over to fuel injection?
@@alexmak1you seems to stress over the wiring, the power steering, and the leaking transmission. Replacing a brand new transmission is ridiculous. I had to pull the transmission from my '63 Ford Econoline, even that was a pain in the rear, awkward!
I am about to start my build project. I like the seat head rests. Did you get those directly from FFR (I understand that headrests are not an option with FFR?) or elsewhere? Thank you.
thanks! we spent about 3 months building the main thing and getting it titled. just two of us, me and my son. it's 347ci engine with TKO600 5 speed transmission. pretty sweet for a car that weighs 2200bs
I’m seriously considering doing this and was attracted to your video because it sounds like you started this with about the same level of expertise as I have - which is minimal but I’m reasonably handy. If you’d be willing, may I ask a couple of questions about the instructions? Once you pick out the engine and tranny, does FFR integrate the instructions into the manual they send you so you have a step by step custom process for setting up the engine, clutch, transmission and sensors, accessories and wiring? I mean I look under the hood of my current car and while I can identify the major components there is a rats nest of tubing and wires that run around that I’m clueless about. Does that pesky wiring harness also come with the same step by step instructions? Thank you!
no, the manual is very generic, trying to cover a majority of scenarios - meaning they don't cover specific ones very well, and you don't get to have a custom manual for your specific configuration. however, there are some addendums on the website depending on the engine/transmission/harness combo that help you with some scenarios. In our case with an older type of engine, the harness was pretty straightforward.
That’s good to know thank you. Your reply didn’t scare me off😅. I’m going to go I think with a Mk V with a coyote engine. To keep it simple and as light as possible I’ll probably go with no power steering or brakes.
well done, I assume. For a person that corrected all my typos, this was unexpected :) The transmission was trimmed to some defective porous area in the back, and power steering was just our bad improperly tightening the nuts

makes me chuckle that people write off the newer reproductions as 'kit cars'. when the original Shelby was a mash-up of lots of different parts from various British cars and then an American Ford engine.
We had wipers for the initial inspection, but they are removable, so we took them off. Not sure about other requirements, but we didn’t have neither defroster not reverse light, and it was fine

Easy!
@@alexmak1 thank you for the information.
@@alexmak1I get that. I hear the manual they send you isn't perfect
All the problems you had with power steering lines and wiring and 2 transmissions and the constant adjustments to basically everything, I might reconsider about that kind of project. I have a 2008 Pontiac Solstice GXP that is keeping me happy, for now, but had thought of this project a few years ago
Yeah, it wasn’t exactly a smooth ride, but well worth it.
I’m thinking of buying one with a 427 with weber carburetors; I’m just can’t be bothered with the carbureted set up. Is it hard to convert it over to fuel injection?
What was the most difficult/time consuming part of this project?
Nothing in particular. Except agonizing process of choosing a color to paint
Thank you.
Hi, these are headrests from 2000 Audi A4, grabbed at a junk yard.
Hi beautiful build did you cut the fender so the tires won’t rub
Tires do not rub the fenders. The front ones rub a bit inside, to the aluminum panels, but not significantly
Thanks the car is awesome great build I just hope I won’t any problems registering in New Jersey.
I would think a replica would be better than original in a lot of ways. Very cool video 👍
It is. They say if you lean on the original AC, you'll dent the body. Plus running gear, rear end, transmission are all modern.
Did yall make the body stand or did it come with it?
my son built one, the kit doesn't come with it
Love it!!
Bravo! How many actual working days? How many of you? What motor, trans package?
Im jealous!
Amazing project, thanks for posting
thanks! we spent about 3 months building the main thing and getting it titled. just two of us, me and my son. it's 347ci engine with TKO600 5 speed transmission. pretty sweet for a car that weighs 2200bs
@@lasersailor6684no brakes might be a bit dangerous, man!
Let me rephrase that 😵…no power brakes. I understand it’s an option on the MkV.
@@lasersailor6684 I was kidding, I understand. it's a default option, I got it as well, but later retrofitted power brakes kit.
I do auto wiring and repair for a living the past 20 years. Not as easy as most think to do it properly.
Crap if your car has electrical problems, you'll find out soon enough. Take a look are the wiring diagram in the service manual.
LOT of work ! And a lot of re-working !! I used to want one. Now, I'd just buy a new Vette.....
This is just plug and ............... a lot of work, what brand and power train, looks like a Windsor cheers
That was a small block 347 Ford V8, 302 block stroked to 347, 410hp
@@alexmak1too much horsepower for me. I'd kill myself.
I can’t decide whether this would be a nightmare - or a ton of fun.
definitely fun!
I'd say...both. it would take me 5 years. My fear is I'd get frustrated and quit, and my wife would have to sell a half-finished car when I'm dead.
Very good video, great work fellas 💯
thank you!
Perfect Amazing Fantastic Exelent Magical The Best Ever 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
Will be doing this in the future!
Did you guys build the frame of the car yourself or bought it to
Yep, I did the same thing, except I prepped and then painted the body first .
What was the total cost for this build? I've been considering doing one myself.
there's a video with cost breakdown
nice!! what about those body seams?
they were gone after the body was painted
Hmmm why did you not finish the body seams?
I did it later, when it was my turn at the body shop
That was very well done.
Thank you!
why does the nose looked like it was glued on? I thought the body was all one piece.
chanGing oil & filter
Otherwise we’ll gone guys.
Why were the trans & power steering leaking?
well done, I assume. For a person that corrected all my typos, this was unexpected :) The transmission was trimmed to some defective porous area in the back, and power steering was just our bad improperly tightening the nuts
Porsche wearing its spare tire at the 15:51 mark. Never understood why they are bright red. I could probably google it! :-)
Someone has been paying attention to the details! (Yes, it got a flat that day somehow)
Good job on the build I hope you enjoy your ride.
Love the Video, your fast workers lol.I bought a pilgrim sumo cobra in 2007,I live in Ireland,Over here and the uk they seem to use donor cars,to save on costs.Love working on the car.certainly are special. What color are you planning? just subscribed
makes me chuckle that people write off the newer reproductions as 'kit cars'. when the original Shelby was a mash-up of lots of different parts from various British cars and then an American Ford engine.
@@stuco81 have to admit greatest mash up off all time.
For PA initial inspection I thought you needed wipers, defroster and reverse lights?
We had wipers for the initial inspection, but they are removable, so we took them off. Not sure about other requirements, but we didn’t have neither defroster not reverse light, and it was fine
Is it legal to have no windshield wipers?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hi how much cost to make cobra
I m really interested
Depends! There's a video on my channel talking about costs.
