Will always be thankful for biology lessons. We once learned about lymph notes and how it’s not normal for them to be swolen for longer than 2 weeks, and for some reason that always stuck with me. And thankfully it did because years later i started having this big lump in my neck and i decided to have it checked out. Usually i’m a “it’s probably nothing” type of person so i never would’ve gone, but i did and it turned out to be cancer! Basic biology knowlegde is so important❤
Sees a new video by Dr. Gill, gets excited. Sees that it's a general exam, gets even more excited. Sees that it's only 5 minutes long, gets bummed out. I do wish it was longer but it was sure a great 5 minutes.
@@joshhaworth2155 Yes it is! I’ve heard that the lower the BPM the more healthy the heart? So athletes tend to have lower BPM. But then again, not a doctor!!
I've seen many other medical/ASMR 'General Examination' videos that take a lot longer than 5 minutes. I'm assuming that as long as the doctor covers all of the basic points, they can go into more depth in the examination if they *choose* to?
The general exam, is in my humble opinion, a bit of a fake examination. Someone doesn’t go to the doctor and say “Doc my general is a bit sore, could you examine it please” However it is used at medical as the first week assessment, as it gets student started. Also it works as a general over view to the patient, where you may highlight something and then need to dig into other systems to find out what is going on It’s very much a “mirror, signal, manoeuvre” type exam
@@DrJamesGillI have never thought about it in that way, but this makes complete sense haha. I have never been to the doctor and asked for a general overview, aside from jobs looking for physicals to be done. Have you ever had a general overview where someone had something seriously going wrong with them?
I'm almost 42. I don't think I've ever had a physical that looks anywhere near like this. Bp done by nurse, Dr listens to heart and lungs then sends you for labs. That's it. I kinda want my money back.
That’s all I get too, would appreciate a full look over at least once a year. Would probably help people be healthier too if they thought someone was keeping a closer look on them throughout life.

That lymph node check in the neck is super important. A doctor missed my lymphoma even if i had a rather large lump near the clavicle. Im guessing this is because lymphoma is so rare and most doctors probably do this exam their entire career without finding a single case? Im not mad at the doctor we are all humans and we All make mistakes
Great video! As someone with deep veins I love how quickly it appeared you were able to find hers for the purposes of taking her pulse, lol, I always have to remove my watch when they try to take mine during the health history portion of blood donation appointments and even then they take a few seconds and some deeper pressure to find it 😂. I do love being able to track my pulse and bp however every time I go and am very satisfied when my pulse reads it’s standard 64 bpm and my bp is within a normal range 😂😂😂. As someone for which high blood pressure runs in my family it’s something I do everything I can to try and avoid!
Hi Dr Gill, Thank you for all your informative videos I'll like to ask What alternative can be used if an ECG paper gets finished? Thank you as I'll appreciate your response
What is having hand tremors a sign of? Me and my mom have had it since forever, but no one else in my whole family... And anyone else, really. Market cashiers constantly point out that my hands are shaky, so in everyone else's eyes they're really shaky.
I’m sorry I’m not able to provide medical advice. I would however recommend speaking with your doctor. It is the sort of thing I would want to patient to talk to me about
Resting tremors run in my family and after the doctor ruled out other diagnoses, they said in our cases they were harmless. So, yes, of course, talk to your doctor as Dr. Gill wisely says, but it may not necessarily be a symptom of something serious.
I have always had trembling hands since I was a child. Went to see my doctor around 20 years ago about it and he diagnosed the trembling as a benign essential tremor.
Doc i haven't had a general examination or test done by a doctor all my life, i wanted to ask is it okay? Is it necessary to be going for yearly check-ups?
Can you please do a video on cholesterol? I'm 41 and have a healthy bmi and balanced diet and I have been told recently I have a level of 6 which apparently it too high. I exercise every day, walking for at least half an hour and do two classes at the gym every week. I'm mortified and need help to understand what I've done wrong. I don't smoke and barely drink.. Less than one drink a week. What do I do if I'm already doing the right stuff!? Thanks
@SCW87 not at all, you’re not *just* a student. You ARE a student. That’s a fantastic thing, you are studying to be more. Also you asked a question you were not sure on. That always beats 99% of the people who were not sure of something but didn’t ask
