In this video, I review the Abmat crash cushions which reduce the noise made from deadlifts and olympic lifting. They also act to protect the floor from damage. I personally like plan on using them as a strongman crash pad - circus dumbbell, stones, kegs, etc.

True mate
Sounds only begin to happen at 405lbs which, as we know, is impossible for any man to lift.

@@jjwp-ql5rv wait let me get this straight. they scream ...while screaming? how do you deal with that next level screaming
I've been deadlifting in the swimming pool, no sound at all.
I’m not big into weight lifting so I can’t tell if this is a joke or not.. I mean I guess it’s feasible depending on the depth/ floor?
@@ImNoctica it's a joke :) In Powerlifting the weight on the bar matters the most and under water the weight appears to be lighter
@@mooncracker5603 but your lifting against the weight of the water surrounding you... this might make for a game changer!
@@bobbygecko damn, I didn't take this into account😅
I didn't realize it was a joke. Bas Ruten does weight training in a pool. It's a smart idea. Just make sure you only deadlift in the deep end lol
But I want everyone to know that I I lift heavy :(
You can still make loud noises with your mouth so you'll be fine.

Man this was a fucking 5 minute commercial and it got 130k views. Teach me your ways master.
I got these for my upstairs apartment, and they’re great as a floor saver. Being able to deadlift at home is really nice. Nice video, Alan!

I wish we had a deadlift platform in our library! 😭
These are perfect for Omar. Lately he's been making noises while lifting, hopefully the paintball gunshot noises will stop with those cushions.
This is a great commercial, total honesty, you should do more of these.
the music is louder than the sound. if no one complains about music volume, they cant complain about deadlift noise. that's a new rule at my gym after watching this video. thank you for the inspiring content as always
Love the honesty in your videos your deadlift video actually help me go from 300 to 320 in one day just on a form change as I was doing it wrong, you definitely aren't a bullshiter you know what you're doing I definitely appreciate the hard work on these videos good work man 💪💪👊

What a thoughtful and well explained review - definitely fits my needs as I live on third floor above a neighbor. Plus I like the aesthetics and can easily store in a closet or use as a footrest by the couch when not using for deadlifts haha.
Greta is super proud you're recycling car tires. Thanks Alan!

Since watching this channel's videos, I have never trained late... I always TRAIN ON TIIIIIIIIIME! Great advice, really.
Alan, you were sarcastically laughing when you made that pun, but I was laughing for real. Good stuff. :)
Me too, his sense of humor actually kills me
I look forward to the day that I can deadlift 405 lbs and be at the maximum human capacity.
Work on your squats and do a lot of back training, you will deadlift 405 in no time.

missed the opportunity to say they'd be great to avoid getting kicked in the nuts by roided out PTs in commercial gyms
Hahaha nice reference😂
oof yh
The guy you're referencing didn't look roided out at all
Who looks like hes been in the gym for 10yrs but somehow manages to look like a novice
Blaha reference ?
I usually do bring my weights to the library, so these would actually be quite useful for me
Love the Untamed Strenght logo! it reminds me of Sweden Viking band Unleashed. Nice info as always, cheers from a spaniard metalhead!
You were clunking it, not crashing it... good form! As a Kiwi I like the rugged old DIY car tire thing!

Finally, a video for folks who like to work in the library, we've been ignored for TOO MANY YEARS!!!!
Alan Thrall is one of the few people thats truly honest with their advertising. I love it
Thanks for this. Some flunky at my corporate gym just asked me to not 'slam' the weights (i.e. controlled drop) because they're worried about damaging the floor (concrete with horse mats). They don't have bumper plates or deadlifting platforms, and while I don't think the floor is actually in any danger I will grudgingly respect their stupidity. They asked me to use cushions and after watching this video I have concluded that doing so will be awkward (getting the height right) but not cost me all self-respect.
Gonna be honest after reading the title I thought Alan was goin soft and was gonna say stop grunting, I’m sorry I doubted you King Thrall
My library appreciates this
The best part was when Suicide Note pt. II was playing in the background
Suicide Note Pt.2. respect bro 🤘🤘🤘
It will sound the same because most of the noise comes from the barbell hitting the inside ring of the weights.
But the mats are useful for decreasing the impact on the ground, which is more felt and heard in lower floors.
But if I silence the noise how is everyone at the gym supposed to know they need to look at me? I don't wear Ranger panties to the gym for no reason...
But can those pads handle...
ONE THOUSAND POUNDS!!!
if u pass 405 on any lift u have the right to make as much noise as u want

That's a solid and fair review. To my ears, those deadlift deadeners don't make much of a difference in terms of sound. I also can't really fathom why anyone would want to use them and still enjoy training. I mean, what's next, do you have to not even breathe and instead also walk on tiptoe? I get it, some lift at home and people live next doors or below. That was a reason for me not to start a home gym. I was thinking I'd still get complaints. Just the idea I have to be really quiet when lifting does make lifting more difficult. It's like an extra layer of difficulty. I don't make sound just for the heck of it, but when things get heavy for me I can't help that a deadlift makes noise or the plates make that sound that is like music to my ears. It happens even on a strict press; the iron plates make that particular sound they make when you lock out hard. I love the sound of iron. However, I dislike people throwing around weights being careless and disrespectful.
Years ago, I started my journey in a commercial gym (fitness center really) that was anti-deadlift and they only had dumbbells going up to 30 kg and more of this nonsense. However, they never mentioned upfront that deadlifting was not really allowed. So I join up and I do basic starting-strength like programming of compound movements. To me, that was logical. However, that fitness center hated it. These places want people signing up and staying away or, if they do come, walk a bit on the treadmill or dance on a stability ball, and call it a day. That fitness center even had some bumpers, so why have bumpers if you're not allowed to do anything with them? Fun. They looked like new too. Well, I digress. I despise fitness centers. Fortunately, more real gyms are becoming available, but still rare where I live. It almost is this far I am tempted to start my own, but I know from these Train-Untamed videos and others that it's not so easy. Maybe I have to become more despised with the state of the fitness world before daring to take the first step.
i love that helpful witch voice at the end.
These crash cushions must be selling really well at this point, with the boom in home gyms.
Untamed strenght, untamed beard
It's not about silencing deadlifts in your immediate vicinity. It's about stopping the low vibrations from going through the floor and into the rest of a shared building. When I was a kid, neighbours would bounce tennis balls off a common wall. We heard them more inside than they heard outside. Similar.
"and I don't think anyone in the world can deadlift more than..."

“The Great Southern Trendkill” is a killer Album, multiply that for lifting weights ✔️
Suicide note pt. 2 all the way... !!! Best deadlift song ever
i tell people to quite their opinion when they say i deadlift too loud.
I would say ok and then slam it harder lol
I always asked them to show how me to do it quieter...
Stupid people tell you to deadlift quiter when they do their cable crossovers just as noisy... the hardest noice Ive heard at a gym came from idiots dropping their weights on those and that one guy who does crossfit style exercises on cleans, not deadlifts.
@@churck2267
You aren't supposed to do a negative when deadlifting. it's dangerous to go down really slow on them. You aren't supposed to slam it at the floor or anything, but more of a "controlled drop" is correct.
😂😂
Deadlifting behind the library. Nice idea. Guess I'm going to the library
That's where I do all my deadlifting
Lmao!!! The second take got me busted out laughing.
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH PANTERA IF YOU WANT TO TEST THOSE SILENCERS!
I need this one for my commercial gym. Everytime i do deadlift the personal trainer always complained me 😭
Time to either lift heavier or switch your trainer
get a new gym
Yeah, get another gym. My gym hates people who just throw dumbbells on the floor, or drop a bar after bro's "curl" too much weight. They don't care about someone putting a deadlift down properly. Which, as we all know, makes noise.
Liked only for Alan laughing at his own joke
Deadlifts are loud exercises. I like that about them
there are stronger people, that can do more weight, and do it quieter, if you want to scream and grunt, James Dean always needs a co-star
My gym's neighbouring business is a book store. They actually came in and told us that the books were falling off their shelves because of us. These cushions might come in handy 🤠
Just saw Iron Maiden this week. Great Concert
new to the channel, love the personality and detailed review. keep it up 👍🏼
I use these for my indoor gym perfect!
I'm already planning on getting these for my next apartment or if I buy a house at any point in the next few years.
I really love this Alan "dad joke" Thrall.
I didn't know the dad block increased the rate of dad jokes as well
For the olypmic weightlifting at 2:40: Had that been a heavier weight, which olympic lifters are used to- it wouldn't of bounced around as much- and the crashpads would've helped better.
Edit: Although I'm sure this is common sense, it could without mention mislead someones perspective just slightly.
4:46 so you’re making dad jokes now. Guess being a dad is catching up to you
Eric Bugenhagen will buy this
Hit the nail on the head. Squeezeing a workout in while the baby is napping is twice as quiet while twice as hard because you got to take it down slow with lots of control
It also protects your concrete! That's the reason I'm interested. I have no platform.
hey I was at the maiden sac show too!! so I didnt train on time that day because I drove all the way up from san diego.. :(

Got in trouble at Planet Fitness for deadlifting 4 plates because I was “intimidating.” I asked whether it was intimidating that I was making noise or that I was lifting heavy? (I wasn’t making very much noise). Needless to say, I found a real gym and don’t go to planet anymore
That logo is borderline unreadable
thats how you know its heavy metal
Dang he dropped that dad joke like rock onto those pads.
And here's me trying to come up with an air or electrical resistance double cable hoist system to lower barbells gradually.
Look great for strongman stuff, will for sure think about dropping a hussafel on one
Love the Iron Maiden shirt!
I like the sound of weights personally lol
It's about fucking time.
I swear to God I thought I saw a video you uploaded where you shaved your beard and cut your hair into a gentleman’s combover haircut. I think I’m going crazy.
I got in trouble for dropping weights at the gym this week, but its the kind of gym that would also probably be mad if I brought crash pads . laaaaame
If these aren't available, how important would you say quality is?
I can't access my gym and I'm in an apartment. I have bumper plates and am mostly looking for a solution to dampen the vibration. I already have a plywood and horsestall plat, but need an extra bit of dampening for the neighbors.
It’s been 3 years. Did you find a solution?
They work really well for (strongman) logs
Isnt it cutting out rom though?
