We should. In the USA we have regulations to prevent most of the pollution and other issues caused with fracking. Its not perfect, but its better than letting China drill. Who will dump the pollution right into the river or in a hole on site. I don't understand how Western climate activists completely dropped the ball on the pragmatism vs idealism issue. Oil isn't going anywhere so why are we offloading the extraction to countries that don't even pretend to care about properly managing waste, (worker) safety, or the pollutants?

I live in an all electric home in Texas and our electric coop has invested a lot of money in wind generators and solar panels (that only generate electricity when the wind blows or the sun is shining). We now electric outages and much higher electric bills in the winter. The generating heat with electricity is very inefficient. Nothing beats natural gas for generating heat efficiently and we have a lot in Texas!

Fellow Texan here and we are piped for gas, which powers our water heater and our central heat. The gas bill is always higher in the winter because of this. But I've gotta say, my gas bill has never exceeded $200. It's probably on average, in the winter, about $140-150.

Drive an iPhone that'll need updates every year until it's no longer compatible with new updates. Subscription based "ownership" is kinda already here. It's not your car so you won't be able to modify it or have someone work on it unless they're authorized to do so. All tools will be proprietary. Oh and thanks to geofencing they'll be able to restrict your travel to the approved zones that your insurance provider covers😂 Go on, try to go faster than the speed limit. The GPS won't let you. Yay future.

I can't wait for the hearings into why the United States does not have a depository for nuclear waste in Yucca Mountain, why it was made completely ready to receive the waste and then plans to use it were scrapped and who, exactly, did that. Those hearings will make it clear that the United States is vulnerable to multiple Fukushima type disasters in the future and that there will never be any robust effort to build more nuclear power plants without it.
If you're lucky, you'll be able to barely afford the electricity you'll need to see the hearings.

In the 1990's there were policy makers stating that the power grid in the United States was under strain and many more power generation plants were needed - then. Natural gas plants have proven production and reliability outputs, and they are low polluters. The new technology of filtration and extraction systems make new coal plants great producers of electricity with a LOT less air pollution. There are proven plans and installations of smaller nuclear power plants that supply the near geographic area to the plant that are zero polluters. And, of course, why are we not reusing the nuclear material that we are storing underground? Any and every society needs, indeed, has to have, power. The current trajectory of America is for a hard scrabble life for most of us and wild luxury for a few. It is almost like America is committing suicide. Let's not do that.
