DOES IT ACTUALLY WORK!? Making UV Resin Flowers In Water

  • So today I'm making some UV resin flowers in water, or at least attempting to make some UV resin flowers in water. And this was quite a surprising concept for me, as I was always under the impression that resin and water just didn't get on well! Whenever I was casting with resin, if even the slightest bit of moisture got into the resin then it would completely ruin whatever it was I was making, so to then purposefully add UV resin to water to create some pretty cool looking objects was mind blowing! And I definitely think this water combined with UV resin concept would have some really great applications for other things than flowers, like model making and jewellery, especially if you want to create some organic shapes. But let me know what your thoughts were on this UV resin and water experiment, and if you have any ideas you want me to try then feel free to leave them in the comments below!

Maybe prime it next time and then it would look wonders colours wise! (or add some colour pre curing the resin, not too much as to let the light cure it), it looks a bit like a coloured recycled bottle currently to be honest.... Which is a look some do like yeah, resin is a plastic but if you want a different direction then my suggestions can help! Love the content as always!

      Interesting concept 🤔👏🏻👍🏻😃
You could of put it over something to help mould it into a more flower shape. Also with that sort of thing in mind, you could make a resin bowl where the softened resin is placed either inside or over a bowl and you move it about into a like slightly folded way ... if you know what I mean 😂🤔

Daniel Cooper showed how you can make really neat sculptures curing uv resin in things like shampoo or liquid soaps! Cute flower - I hadn't seen her video on making these flowers.

This was cute and you gave it a good shot. You needed a different viscosity of resin. I saw some other people mention Daniel Cooper and I too want to mention him. I think you would find some really cool things to try. He does all kinds of amazing things with UV resin.

Love UV resin, I think the viscosity of your resin wasn't right for the water method BUT your resolve was great. Will definitely try this method

I have been doing resin and uv resin for years. Love working with it and creating. Go watch Daniel. He does amazing things with uv resin. I watch Louise as well. U can also color uv resin or buy colored uv resin.

Ooo, very interesting. I must try it. Last summer the cheapo plastic hinge on the petrol cap cover on my VW Up snapped and I didn’t want to buy a whole new unit so I put a little bit of Gorilla glue just to hold it together then smothered the whole thing with UV resin and left it in the bright sun to set. Worked a treat.

I love Louise’s work she is fabulous. She makes everything she does look easy.
Did Louise say what viscosity UV resin she used as that might be the issue Ant.

She does indeed! And I don't recall, all I know is she did mention about different brands might have a different effect etc so my brand might of been a little on the thicker side 😅

It may not be the brand, maybe your uv resin was too thick. I like playing around with uv resin and I recently learned that there are different viscosities.
Edit to add: I prefer your technique better than the water technique. This also gave me an idea to use stencils on the silicone mat and use uv resin. That would be interesting. I'm not good at free handing things.I like stencils and molds. 😂 lol
