I feel like Denise Richards is so underappreciated as an actress. She is gorgeous and stunning, yes, but a lot of the projects and roles she took on were kind of "odd ball" roles. She nailed this role out of the park. Literally an icon.
Ramenzilla This entire movie is a gem. “Wild Things” was excellent as well. And she was so satirically perky in “Starship troopers” Her career started with a bang but she sadly didn’t sustain it and I can’t help but wonder why.
This film is something of a forgotten gem. Its hilarious and the cast is incredible. This was first thing I ever saw Alison Janney in and loved her ever since. Amy Adams to though forgot she was in it. Brittany Murphy is in so many great films whenever I see her it always makes me sad she is gone.
I will never not love this movie!! In the golden age of "Teen Movies", everyone went in expecting one thing (especially bc they trailer made it seem like a regular Teen Movie!!) and got the shock of their life with what the movie *really was, the dark comedy & outrageousness of it all!!* Such a gem!!
Such a great comedy with so many talented women: Kirsten, Ellen, Alison, Denise, Kirstie, Amy, Brittany... Such a gem RIP Kirstie Alley and Brittany Murphy 🙏🏼
This is one of my favorite movies. My mom bought this when I was a kid and every now and again we will watch this together because it's just one of those movies. We still laugh just as much each time we see it.
It's apparently because the director / writer wanted this character to have a very neutral accent as it went with the backstory of her having trained to be a beauty queen all her life.
People who are saying this is blasphemous haven’t seen the film. It’s not making fun of religion but rather hypocrites. Becky and her mom pretend to be pillars of the community and religious while killing off anyone who gets in their way of the pageant or what they want (ie, girl who got elected president of Lutheran gun society, boy who showed interest in her rival, trying to kill Amber). The fact that they do this talent is attempt to pander to mostly male judges by pretending to be morally wholesome and throwing in a little sexual innuendo when they clearly are not moral people. And it works - they win! It’s funny because it’s so over the top.
It works because her father is the richest guy in town and is funding the pageant. One of the judges works in his company, another one's store got hired to paint the props...
I feel like Insatiable was riffing on this scene with their awkward song and dance number at the Miss Magic Jesus pageant. It was way funnier the first time around in this scene.
Not likely, Jacob. The way movies are made, no one would have heard the song, or the singing. The only filming of "extras" would have been a few reaction shots, and these would have been included in the filming of all the other scenes involving audiences - they would have had professional "audience" warm-ups, and played recorded music (etc.) to get various facial reactions as they shot. Probably was a very boring and tedious 4-5 hour session. That's how they do it.
pmw8000 Denise Richards herself said that extras walked out. I would guess that it was because of the Jesus doll on a crucifix, not because of the music or singing.
pmw8000 no, people actually did walk out due to this scene (& I think some other things too). It's a very well known fact about this movie & *multiple actors/producers/the director/etc have commented about this happening!!* I'm incredibly surprised you wouldn't know this well known fact since it seems like you're a big fan of this movie!! I know that just this year there were some pretty good articles written and interviews w cast/producers/director/etc done for the 20th anniversary of the movie that not only talk about the behind the scenes stuff and what it was like to shoot this movie, but also the cult following it has garnered, the lasting effect the movie has had, how it was initially perceived/did at theatres vs how it's done in yrs since (also to do in part with the cult following), how the concept of the movie was drummed up from a real life experience from one of the writers that had done a small town Ms Teen type patent (& how many of these can really be a scam and are also rigged), how it's captured a moment in time - an era and the zeitgeist, how it was done in the golden era of "Teen Movies" but was so much different than what the standard model was for these movies which made this one stick out and has only added to its cult following, and more. The dark comedy of this film and how a lot of the things in this movie were perceived as "not right" or scandalous or wha have you not want spoke about often as it really plays a significant role in what made this movie so different from the other standard Teen Movies, why it didn't perform as well at the box office and why it has landed such a cult following in the years since. There were a few articles that even mentioned how the script called for even more outrageous, dark or "inappropriate" scenes and how they were either scrapped before even filming because it was seen as "going too far" or "too scandalous" or they were actually filmed and were either cut by the directors themselves again due to them being "too scandalous/inappropriate/going too far", or the directors were told from the higher ups/studio executives/etc too cut due to those reasons. Some of those scenes even made it to a few screenings and then were ultimately scrapped then due to the audience reaction, again because they were too scandalous, going too far, too inappropriate for a Teen Movie. Funnily enough, the movie would have been way more dark and "inappropriate" if they would have gone with the original concepts and not cut so many scenes!! So let that give you an idea of just how extreme this movie would have ended up based off of knowing that and what the movie ultimately did end up as!! In most of the articles I read that we're celebrating the 20th anniversary, the extras/crew/ppl walking out was mentioned multiple times by multiple actors/producers/director/etc. But even before all these articles celebrating and talking about the movie for the 20th anniversary, this was a well known fact about this movie and cast/crew had talked about it on multiple occasions. Hell, I'm pretty sure it's even listed in the IMBD trivia section!! At this point, I thought everyone who was a fan of this movie knew this well known fact because it's been talked about so much by now!!
@@twinkletoes6290 I repeat - no one "walked out" during this scene because no one was there. Trust me - I've been in a pile of shoots, and there was no audience at the time the singing was recorded, and no actual stage show. Ever. Movies are just not made that way. Sorry, you've been misinformed; religion will cause some people to hallucinate things they hoped and wished were true, but actually weren't.
@@user-gf3wn1ne9n Since there were no extras present when the singing was recorded, they simply could not have walked out. Try and recall the publication quoting Ms Richards saying that and we can check it - but it is probably just an offended church zealot hallucinating the scenario. Literally came here this is one of my favorite scenes in female comedy. Kirstie alley and her KILLED these roles. I’d give Denise an Oscar If I could.
Hard agree. The woman is a treasure. It would be so cool to see her get some roles in the future
That’s because this role was hardly a stretch for her. Lol
She really is and she's amazing
Saw this in the theaters and my friend and I literally fell out of our seats we were laughing so hard.

Seriously this scene is brilliant
This scene.... chefs kiss 💋
Right? The relates
Honestly I was cringing the whole time. And I was royally pissed when she won.

This scene is so wrong, but so flipping hysterical!!!
To this day, I still lose it every time Jesus comes rolling out on stage as well as when Becky carries the crucifix off-stage.

I love how Lorretta and Annette are laughing so hard at her. 😂😂😂
I too laugh hysterically watching this
Best part!!! 😂
😂😂😂😂
Amber's mum and her mate cracking up in the audience 😂😂😂
Criminally underrated. That is this movie.
Seeing Allison Janney and Ellen Barkin's reaction to the 'Little Miss Pageants' dance with Jesus on wheels cracks me up every time.
Too funny 😂😂😂
I absolutely love that Denise Richards is the only person in this entire movie that doesn’t have the Minnesota accent.
It's apparently because the director / writer wanted this character to have a very neutral accent as it went with the backstory of her having trained to be a beauty queen all her life.

Many many people like that walk among us sadly
I think some people don't like Drop Dead Gorgeous because it hits way WAY too close to home...
If the rest of the movie is like this clip then I would imagine people don’t like it because it sucks.
still the best
