@@2sallads Its a happy ending. Who doesn't like a happy ending? It wrapped up the movie much better than the original. Frank Oz agrees, i believe he stated that unlike a musical on the stage you don't get to see the actors come out and bow at the end. I love the original endings music and special effects, but it would have seriously hurt the movie.
@@MinnieMouse839 Her character is very timid and fragile. When she sings with Seymour she belts out POWERFUL confident climactic song, because she's finally happy and in love for the first time. I love how Ellen has that meek little squeaky speaking voice, but she can break into that flawless vibrato like it's nothing! And the writing of this song is genius. Classic play/movie.
I think what people forget about this performance is that it's supposed to show a transition in Audrey. She goes from meek, scared, and beaten, to strong, confident, and empowered rather quickly. Ellen does a great job showing the emotions and awkwardness of that transition for Audrey. She's never been this confident in her life and she's probably on the verge of tears and screaming for happiness.

Rick hit it out of the park with his performance in this movie. His voice is great, even though the parts he has to sing aren't very demanding in terms of vocal range or technique. I think it's something to do with how natural he's singing, there's no mannerisms and even very little acting in his performance. Everything he sings seems very genuine and pure because of it, and that just works so well for this movie, especially in this song where he's the supporting part to Ellen Greene's insane vocal talent. He is leaving so much room for her vocals to shine, that it's very easy to overlook the amount of emotional depth he's adding with his humble part.
+zooeyhall Disney still puts out some pretty good ones, but you're statement is true about live-action musicals. I feel like people aren't realizing that Ellen is in character and doing an accent specific to the character.... If you actually look up other roles of her and hear her "pure" singing voice- she's an incredible singer. And you can hear it in this song too if you look past the ditzy Audrey voice, which you should.
So I showed this to a group of friends in college, and one of them hated Audrey's normal voice. I kept telling him to give her some time. He was about to leave the room, and then her singing voice hit. My man stopped dead in his tracks and his jaw dropped and his eyebrows raised, and he sat right the hell back down. I just love how in this song, her voice goes from small and timid to those beautiful, strong tones as she realises she's finally free and loved, it's incredible. :)
I was a disc jockey in college 30-some years ago, and the last night I was on the air, the night before my graduation, "Suddenly Seymour" was the last song of my last set...I walked out the door of the studio bawling like a baby. So, this song will always hold a special place in my heart. To this day, "Suddenly Seymour" and Ellen Greene singing "Somewhere That's Green" get a lump in my throat every time.
Tears come to my eyes every time I hear that song. She finally has found someone who really cares and tells her. There have been times that I can relate to her. As a poet myself I know that deep position in the heart that this song comes from. Wanting someone you can not have Leaves a sinking feeling deep down not fulfilling it leaves an aching heart and brings to my face a deep frown
This song makes me think of me and my boyfriend. I’ve been in some really terrible relationships that left me feeling small and insecure. He works every day to make sure I know I’m so much more, as well as push me to keep growing. I didn’t know how to fully express my feelings until I relistened to this song. I love that it captures the initial fear, as well as the absolute joy. It’s just so well done!
Audrey seems like she’d be such a difficult character to play after what Ellen Greene did with her. High pitched lispy voice that transforms seamlessly into that big voice. Like you can hear hints of the lisp when she’s transferring into those deep parts. How do you do this character without just cosplaying Ellen Greene. She’s so good.
@@michaelnorris6365 SCTV was late-70s into the 1980s (it ran concurrent with Saturday Night Live and Fridays), though there probably were reruns in the 1990s (though I remember TVLand airing SCTV reruns in the 2000s).
This short little song has so much depth, you can hear Audrey start off timid and afraid, then as the realization starts to set in that Seymour is truly a nice person to her, probably the only nice guy her age she knows (Mushnik she probably sees as a father figure) her confidence builds, as Seymour gives her moral support, she realizes she’s stronger than she gave herself credit for, she finds her true voice and realizes Seymour has feelings for her, and she accepts them and steps forward into what she hopes is a better future, with Seymour by her side...
And then that greedy voracious plant ruins their lives, I still prefer the theatrical ending over the original one. It makes more sense when you learn that Howard Ashman and Alan Menken spearheaded the Disney Renaissance.
Yeah, because Mushnik does kind of care about her, by telling her constantly to leave Orin for her own safety, but he doesn’t do anything beyond that, really. True, feeding a dead body to a hungry plant isn’t exactly a good thing to do, but Seymour was all prepared to fight for her and got rid of the guy, so…
Lucinda Summerfield She's one of the most passionate, soulful singers to ever grace a Broadway stage. I think people are thrown by the intensity of it; it's not something you see much anymore.
+TheWildBandit I agree it took me a few times to be able to do her part she is a singer but this is her trying to be a bad singer because her character was written to have all the looks but not the voice lol she does hit some high notes tho
2020 and I still watch this video because it is such a touching song, and my God for such a little woman she really reached deep down and belts it out.
*Attention, the following joke only work with people who wear glasses*: Step 1: Take out your glasses, you may barely see. Step 2: Put on your glasses quickly, now you just *suddenly See-Mour* :v
I always thought that two when I always watched this movie. The only scene I can't watch of this movie is the dentist scene. Scares the heebie jeebies out of me.
One of the most powerful things about this song is it’s gospel style arrangement. It makes Audrey’s realization and release from an abusive relationship a pure spiritual experience.
So true. I was pleasantly surprised at how powerful and amazing her voice really is. I think anyone listening to this for the very first time would feel the same way.
I love this song!!! Rick Moranis is the CUTEST THING EVER and Ellen Green hes the most unique powerful voice I love the emotions she shows threw her movements and voice and Rick helps her and she helps him. Vocally they just help each other its just perfect
Ellen Greene, the actress who played Aubrey, had to hold back while singing so Rick could keep up. Imagine how long she could have held that note if she didn't.
This version can’t be beat. Such great performances and the tempo and arrangement are perfect. Plus those singers on the balcony is such a great touch.
rick just one decided he is done making movies and thats it. he said in an interview he just wanted to spend time with his family and enjoy life. i really respect it but to me its sad. he is just so great in every movie he made. I know I want more of his movies. Always have been and always will be a fan.
Not only is this song beautifully written and breathtakingly sung, the cameraworks and set-design is just so amazing too. Gotta love the trio of background singers suddenly popping up on that fire escapestaircase. In context of the movie, it's also a very emotional and moving piece. God this movie is great. A classic. It feels like they don't make 'em like they used to.

Rick Moranis left show business when he became a widower and had to care for his kids. He didn't miss Hollywood. He's such a great comedian. It would have been nice if he was still doing movies.
DAMN, they both can sing so well. Her singing voice ASTONISHED me when I was a kid. 3:28 I always have a couple tears just automatically fall down my cheeks. I don't know what causes it, exactly. Because this film is SO funny and campy. Nostalgia, maybe...the fact I saw this movie when I was practically a baby, and miss being a kid so much, or the amazing, almost operatic harmony between them, and/or fact that the person I fell in love with and married is _my_ Seymour, and these particular lyrics kind of hit home: _Nobody ever treated me kindly_ _Daddy left early, mamma was poor_ _I'd meet a man and I'd follow him blindly_ _He'd snap his fingers, me, I'd say, "Sure"_ _Suddenly, Seymour is standing beside me_ _He don't give me orders, he don't condescend_ _Suddenly, Seymour is here to provide me_ _Sweet understanding, Seymour's my friend_ 💑
"...I put on cheap and tasteless outfits...not nice ones like this..." That line gets me everytime, lol...and applause for those belts with full on chest voice .
Love this video ! There are humorous parts to be sure. But his obvious devotion and her shaky belief in herself are so endearing and moving. I guess I'm a hopeless romantic🤗
I love "old man" names and I grew up watching this movie. I turned it on while I was mulling over names for my 5-week-old kitten and he watched the whole movie with me. Seymour he became. He was diagnosed with cancer this week at only eight years old, so my husband and I are doing a bucket list for him before he goes. We played this song just now and he came and watched the video. He was always meant to be Seymour and nothing would have suited him better. He's a really good guy, just like the "original" Seymour. ❤️ We miss him so much already.
I’m a massive fan of the stage show and I can’t express enough how perfect this is. Audrey sounds horrible, and at points it’s so cringe....in a way that’s absolutely perfect, she sounds so broken and emotional. Its exactly how Menken wanted it to be. Seymour is perfect too, with his awkward yet sincere approach to comfort Audrey. Both actors did wonderful and the camera angels are superb too. Bravo!!
This song sometimes me cry. This is the best and most emotional song in the musical. Ellen Greene has the killer vocals fit for Audrey and Rick Moranis’s voice is so strong and clean. This is why I LOVE this song🌱🌹
+'friendzoning' never came up in this story, Audrey is clearly portrayed as being into Seymour ('a cutey, inner beauty') and desperate to be with someone ('I need someone to follow blindly') - so all he has to do is let her know it's reciprocated when she's single. And then trust her instead of assuming she's only interested because of his new fame. Which is why 'cutey/inner beauty' comes before 'without my plant she might not love me anymore')
Seymour wasn't "friendzoned." "Somewhere That's Green" showed that Audrey wanted to be with Seymour already before this song, and probably had for a long time. She just didn't see any way to make it happen; she was dating Orin Scrivello DDS and was afraid to leave him, among other things; she couldn't believe Seymour would actually want her, and she didn't believe she even deserved someone like Seymour, a kind, gentle man who would treat her with love, respect and compassion. That's what this song is about, Seymour helping Audrey to realize it's actually true that she can have and deserves to have the relationship she dreamed about.
Expect there wasn't any friendzoning. Audrey and Seymor were both into each other, but thought the other was too good for them. They only start moving in on each other once Seymour kills Audrey's abusive dentist boyfriend and feeds him to a hungry plant.
Ben Richards it’s assumed Audrey was partly dating Orin because of his money (or she used that as an excuse to Mushnik to justify the abuse ) that might’ve been why Seymour though that she wouldn’t love him without the new found money and fame when that wasn’t the case
Everyone talks about Ellen’s voice in this number-and rightfully so-but Rick is also a great example of not needing a great voice to act a musical number and nail it
Aunesty Jones People have been addicted to Little Shop of Horrors since 1986, trust me millions of people are you are not the only one, this movie to me is the closest thing to a perfect musical since The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Mary Poppins.
The way he looks at Audrey 😍 I first saw this movie in 1989 when I was 10 and watched that and SCTV almost every day. Rick Moranis made me realise nerdy guys can be sooo adorable lol
NEVER has a performance made me breathless. I never understood what people meant by saying songs took their breath away. Now I FINALLY understand by her singing voice. I couldn’t believe it. When she belts out the song, I stopped breathing, and I didn’t even notice that I wasn’t breathing at first. I got goosebumps. I can’t believe that’s her voice. Truly unique and unforgettable. Thank you.
It's simply one of the greatest cinematic musical numbers in film history, and I will always love Frank Oz, Ellen Greene, and Rick Moranis for pulling it off. Whoever blocked and filmed this knew wtf they were doing. The distance between the two characters, metaphorically and physically, how will these two meet each other and actually make it work? And Audrey works it out, and Seymour does too with just his own under-developed schlub of a personality without ever puffing out his chest and just a little "woo-woo-woo" from the chorus, and we all totally buy the kiss at the end. Magic!
I always thought it was a little mind blowing how she just belts it after she spent the whole film doing the breathy ditz voice

I just love how in this song, her voice goes from small and timid to those beautiful, strong tones as she realises she's finally free and loved, it's incredible. :)
That 'YES YOU CAN' at 3:03 is honestly my favourite thing
Same here 😍😍😍
I love when Audrey at 2:43
Let's just say I love Ellen Greene in general😅
Yep best part
chills
I was a disc jockey in college 30-some years ago, and the last night I was on the air, the night before my graduation, "Suddenly Seymour" was the last song of my last set...I walked out the door of the studio bawling like a baby. So, this song will always hold a special place in my heart. To this day, "Suddenly Seymour" and Ellen Greene singing "Somewhere That's Green" get a lump in my throat every time.
This woman didn't get enough of credit... she can really sing!!!
Hands down one of the best songs from any musical ever
Ellen Greene sounds fantastic when she really goes for it
I want a Seymour
Me too.
Um
I mean minus the murdering and the man eating plant of course. Can't have no Audrey II creating drama up in here
ChubbyBunny same
Vanillakimchi Me too.
Tears come to my eyes every time I hear that song. She finally has found someone who really cares and tells her. There have been times that I can relate to her. As a poet myself I know that deep position in the heart that this song comes from.
Wanting someone you can not have
Leaves a sinking feeling deep down
not fulfilling it leaves an aching heart
and brings to my face a deep frown
Rwayne B I'm sure someone out there cares for you just hold on and be strong and they will find you

EWWWWWW
This song makes me think of me and my boyfriend. I’ve been in some really terrible relationships that left me feeling small and insecure. He works every day to make sure I know I’m so much more, as well as push me to keep growing. I didn’t know how to fully express my feelings until I relistened to this song. I love that it captures the initial fear, as well as the absolute joy. It’s just so well done!
💜
I'm glad things are going better for you, it's nice to hear about people winning when it can be so damn hard....
I thought this was one of the best songs in the movie. The first time I heard Rick Moranis sing, it blew me away. Pretty talented.
Hehe back when he was doing things like honey I shrunk the kids and ghostbusters and such, who knew he could sing?!
@@WhiteTiger950 Anybody who watched SCTV in the '90s.
True, feeding a dead body to a hungry plant isn’t exactly a good thing to do, but Seymour was all prepared to fight for her and got rid of the guy, so…
One of the 80s best musicals. Both on Broadway and on screen.
I really like her voice!? Am I like the only one who appreciates it??
I think her voice is so fucking great.
Lucinda Summerfield She's one of the most passionate, soulful singers to ever grace a Broadway stage. I think people are thrown by the intensity of it; it's not something you see much anymore.
Her talking voice is very annoying but her singing voice is amazing.
+Lucinda Summerfield Love her voice! Awesome.
+TheWildBandit I agree it took me a few times to be able to do her part she is a singer but this is her trying to be a bad singer because her character was written to have all the looks but not the voice lol she does hit some high notes tho
I can't be the only one when I say this movie scared the shit out of me when I was younger...
Same
What's the movie called
Same
The only scene that scared the shit out of me was the dentist scene
Briea I loved this since I was 9 years old 😂
Whoever wrote the music for this motion picture is a musical genius! Most of the tunes are just as catchy as 'Grease'
Alan Menken who also wrote for the Little Mermaid, Pocahontas, Tangled, etc
he really is. look up a tv show called galavant
don't forget his music partner Howard Ashman...rip
Ornacia Motha has arrived
Evan G. yaaasss gawd....They call me motha
2020 and I still watch this video because it is such a touching song, and my God for such a little woman she really reached deep down and belts it out.
*Attention, the following joke only work with people who wear glasses*:
Step 1: Take out your glasses, you may barely see.
Step 2: Put on your glasses quickly, now you just *suddenly See-Mour* :v
+MellamoSteve XD too perfect!
+MellamoSteve Oouh ... that pun gave me physical pain! :D
I love you omg❤️
+MellamoSteve lol! :D I love that pun and I wear glasses so I could enjoy it more.
My last name is Seymour and people think their funny when they make jokes lime that
The funniest thing is that this is a movie based on a musical based on a movie.
Ellen Greene is just two inches taller than Rick Moranis and it really shows.
She's also wearing high heels, so...
He’s also slouching
Had this song in my head all week. Didn't realize it would bring tears to my eyes and a smile to my face.
Glad I'm not the only one who gets misty eyed watching this.🤗
I was just about to leave this exact post word for word. I feel a little better knowing it’s not just me.
Ellen Greene has such an amazing voice.
Ever since I was a kid I always thought Seymour was hot. Still find him smoking
same girl
Rick Moranis is hot af tbh
Same
I always thought that two when I always watched this movie. The only scene I can't watch of this movie is the dentist scene. Scares the heebie jeebies out of me.
rick moranis is so hot.
Seymour is so adorable, "Here take my Kleenex." Haha.
One of the most powerful things about this song is it’s gospel style arrangement. It makes Audrey’s realization and release from an abusive relationship a pure spiritual experience.
How is it a gospel style arrangement?
@@eviltomthaiit is like a church song.
She makes me so happy. She's my go to when I'm feeling down. She's phenomenal!
So true. I was pleasantly surprised at how powerful and amazing her voice really is. I think anyone listening to this for the very first time would feel the same way.
When she hit the "it's so hard to say..." Yessss Ellen!!! 👏👏👏👏
Love how Seymour anticipates the kiss at the end. He waited so long for that kiss. FEELS
probably one of the most UNDERRATED songs in theatre. I know this is the movie version, but still...wow!!!
lol underrated? From who? This is an iconic one
I love this song!!! Rick Moranis is the CUTEST THING EVER and Ellen Green hes the most unique powerful voice I love the emotions she shows threw her movements and voice and Rick helps her and she helps him. Vocally they just help each other its just perfect
I WANNA SING THIS WITH SOMEONE SO BADLY
agreed!
Greene resides in Manhattan. So does Moranis. Nobody has asked him to reprise his role, which I find strange.
The way Rick holds that last note is impressive.
Everytime I try to sing it my voice gives out so I have to take a big breath and use vibrato.
Ellen Greene, the actress who played Aubrey, had to hold back while singing so Rick could keep up. Imagine how long she could have held that note if she didn't.
shivers up the spine when that voice comes out puts a lot of female vocalist to shame ☺
darren4251 I would of died if she and say Whitney Houston did a duet of a sort
I cry every time I hear her
She’s amazing 🤩 let’s leave it at that and not jab other female artists
This version can’t be beat. Such great performances and the tempo and arrangement are perfect. Plus those singers on the balcony is such a great touch.
And 2 of the singers are from the TV shows Martin
When it comes to belting into someones face, it always helps to have a breathmint beforehand.
Who would thought Rick would have such a voice.
Such a great talent and gift.
rick just one decided he is done making movies and thats it. he said in an interview he just wanted to spend time with his family and enjoy life. i really respect it but to me its sad. he is just so great in every movie he made. I know I want more of his movies. Always have been and always will be a fan.
Bill Andrade also sad that he quit acting after his wife died so he can support his kids, which is pretty cool of him
He announced he's returning to acting! Hope the news has reached you. :)
@@jemiu9525 20 YEARS though? wonder why he never did vice overs. You can do those basically at home.
@@blueelkmarketing3436 he did do some voice work
Her voice is timid and quiet for the whole film, until Seymour gives her the confidence to find her true voice. & what a voice.
That kiss at the ending always provides the BIGGEST smile.
She sound like a boy
@@daisy_daily2071 you sound like a bitch
Ellen Greene is the quintessential Audrey. I've heard this song performed by so many other performers but Ellen sings it with such feeling and power.
This movie is what made me fall in love with Rick Moranis. It is my goal to meet him before I die. His voice is just...ugh. So simple yet beautiful.
This song was and is everything to me. If anyone ever brings up this movie I immediately bust into this song. Her voice gives me literal chills. Having her play this character was an amazing choice
Having seen some recent pictures of Ellen Greene, WOW, she's aged like fifteen years in the past thirty. No wonder she came back as Audrey last year.
Ellen Greene is a painfully underrated singer
to hear Ellen belt the hell out of her chorus after hearing her tweety bird voice the entire movie is nothing short of epic. What a voice
Thank you so much for this, I had a cat named Seymour who had died recently and 6 months later im still crying myself to sleep about him, and this is the only thing that gets me asleep. I loved him so much thank you
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Awwww.... I almost named my kitty Seymour! It was between that and Zeke, and I sometimes still wish I’d gone with Seymour, it fits him so perfectly.
My condolences
I had a toy poodle named Seymour. Still miss that little fellow!
I’m so sorry. I lost my 21 year old Siamese on October 1.
Ellen green is the best Audrey
but her voice it's funny!!!!!😄😄😄😄😄😄
I definitely don't deserve an Audry.
But then again, I'm just a dentist
Shes the first from the play as well 😍
Little Shop of horrors and The rocky horror picture show are 🔥
wow ,mine too... for B cult films... love them both... and some other darker stuff lol... you should watch 7 psychopaths, though not musical... still culty whimsical...
Oh god, me too! They're my two favorite musicals! Campy musicals are delightfully fun.
Elle Brown If you like musicals, then you might like the new musical,La La Land. It has amazing songs, likable characters, great acting, and an interesting story. It's an awesome film 👏
Star Blossom Thanks will give it a watch x
Elle Brown hi my name is Alyson
Who else is still here in 2020??
Yup.
For about 100 reasons.
I loved this movie as a kid and I'd love to have a man eating plant I could feed my bullies to lol
I'm here to take my mind off 2020
Saw a reference to Little Shop of Horrors on the show The Unicorn and just had to hear this song. It's still amazing.
That shit gets old.
Piss off.
god I love this seymour
Rick Moranis left show business when he became a widower and had to care for his kids. He didn't miss Hollywood. He's such a great comedian. It would have been nice if he was still doing movies.
he's actually the funniest thing in the first ghostbusters, but never gets recognized because murray played the cooler role
+bookwoman53
Seymour krelbourn
DAMN, they both can sing so well. Her singing voice ASTONISHED me when I was a kid. 3:28 I always have a couple tears just automatically fall down my cheeks. I don't know what causes it, exactly. Because this film is SO funny and campy. Nostalgia, maybe...the fact I saw this movie when I was practically a baby, and miss being a kid so much, or the amazing, almost operatic harmony between them, and/or fact that the person I fell in love with and married is _my_ Seymour, and these particular lyrics kind of hit home:
_Nobody ever treated me kindly_
_Daddy left early, mamma was poor_
_I'd meet a man and I'd follow him blindly_
_He'd snap his fingers, me, I'd say, "Sure"_
_Suddenly, Seymour is standing beside me_
_He don't give me orders, he don't condescend_
_Suddenly, Seymour is here to provide me_
_Sweet understanding, Seymour's my friend_
💑
Bravo!!
This awesome song forever warped my sense of romance and love.
Kids think that "Fixer Upper" is comparable to this. Which is funny.
That is funny...and so not the case, Tornado1994 😃
Agreed, Dean!
+Tornado1994 One might say they're trolling us Little Shop fans. *gets shot
“Warped” it, or enhanced it?
One of the most romantic scenes in cinema history.
This song sometimes me cry. This is the best and most emotional song in the musical. Ellen Greene has the killer vocals fit for Audrey and Rick Moranis’s voice is so strong and clean. This is why I LOVE this song🌱🌹
Ah Little Shop of Horrors, the story that proves that the only way to get out of the friendzone is "Complications due to alien invasion."
@@user-kw7mr6xt9n His last resort was straight up murder... This movie scared the living shit out of me when I was like 7😂
Ben Richards it’s assumed Audrey was partly dating Orin because of his money (or she used that as an excuse to Mushnik to justify the abuse ) that might’ve been why Seymour though that she wouldn’t love him without the new found money and fame when that wasn’t the case
Rick Moranis blew me away. I didn't expect his voice to be so good. 😁😁😁😁
Damn, admit it. That was the smoothest you've ever seen anyone move from friend zone to being her man you've ever seen. XD
Everyone talks about Ellen’s voice in this number-and rightfully so-but Rick is also a great example of not needing a great voice to act a musical number and nail it
Someone help me O.O
I'm addicted to this movie and song, it's become an addiction. xD
***** You are right. The poignancy and pain that underlies this wonderful song really comes through in a way that many people can empathize with.
Aunesty Jones People have been addicted to Little Shop of Horrors since 1986, trust me millions of people are you are not the only one, this movie to me is the closest thing to a perfect musical since The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Mary Poppins.
Don't worry, your not the only one, been addicted to this film for years
kevviebabe you're!
Aunesty Jones BLINK ?
Her vocal belts are amazing
The way he looks at Audrey 😍 I first saw this movie in 1989 when I was 10 and watched that and SCTV almost every day. Rick Moranis made me realise nerdy guys can be sooo adorable lol
Her vocals were an added gem for this movie!!!!! My lil eyes were like what???
NEVER has a performance made me breathless. I never understood what people meant by saying songs took their breath away. Now I FINALLY understand by her singing voice. I couldn’t believe it. When she belts out the song, I stopped breathing, and I didn’t even notice that I wasn’t breathing at first. I got goosebumps. I can’t believe that’s her voice. Truly unique and unforgettable. Thank you.
Bless him and his children. Such an amazing actor and person.
that is my favorite song from any musical, ever. Ellen Green is SUCH a talent.
Magic!
