It seems like such a long time ago now and that's probably because it is! I also had a half finished project for a circuit based on the roads around my old uni in Liverpool as well, although that one never really saw the light of day. I tried converting it but AMS1 didn't like it for some reason. Maybe one day...
@@DDFRacer And if it ever comes to fruition, I can claim that I was the very first to drive it and in a real car ! As I do remember doing quite a few laps of the course whilst you filmed it from the rear window. That was super fun to do with you.
We're using the track this week in MoonieGT's weekly hotlap challenge, with the Ferrari 312T. Should be a spicy combo. I'm looking forward to really learning and pushing my way around this track 😄
Yeah I noticed DONK's post earlier 😁 no way I can pass this one up so will definitely be giving it a go when I get chance this week! There's a few tricky elevation changes to wrap your head round on this one mate, but I covered most of it in the circuit guide here so you should be fine 😉 looking forward to seeing what the aliens can do at Thermalito!
Awesome buddy, and great add with the green screen!😀👌 Hahaha I had forgot I had a corner named after me on this track!..😍😘 Can't wait to try it, and huge congrats to 5000 subscribers mate!🎉💪😎🍻🎊
Oh man, that intro was a tricky little thing to edit 😅 still nowhere near Captain Flatspot's standards though but I'm happy enough with it! Speaking of him, yep you two Henriks have corner names, just my way of saying thanks for all your support from the early days of the channel mate. However, I think one of the most embarrassing things to happen would be to bin it at your own corner, although I think you should be safe with it being a flat out kink 😉 unless something goes _very_ wrong of course...
That's a cool track! Cool too that rmi-wood did the conversion.📣 Look forward to driving it. I'm racking my brain, and can't come up with a good reason not to have a community race of some sort. The Thermalito Three Hour, on a Thursday. 😁
Will be keen to know what you think mate, it's a bit of a fun one in terms of elevation changes and tricky corners but once you get the flow then it kind of eats up your time and you do far more laps than you thought you had 😅 _(well, that's my experience at least...)_ As for the community event, we hosted one here in Automobilista 1 last November and I'll be hosting it again this November but in Assetto Corsa now instead, although car and format TBC. So many options to choose from though but at least I have plenty of time to figure it out 😉
Got Assetto Corsa this week (EOFY Special) with an eye on the community event later this year. First track downloaded and already done a couple of laps :)
Nice! That was very good timing indeed 😁 there are so many cars available for AC when you go digging through the mod sites, although the quality can be a little hit and miss sometimes. I find the physics in Assetto Corsa to be quite forgiving though which works a treat with road cars or classic cars when you get a bit of slip angle going. Will confirm details for the community event here ASAP so people can lock in their dates, but it'll likely be towards the end of November 👍
Very kind words Mascot, thank you very much! RMI Wood pulled a blinder with this one, well and truly above and beyond 😁 and a massive surprise too when he messaged me with the download link. So many memories from my younger years and so much nostalgia for many other sim racers too I'm sure.
He certainly did! Great guy too, really helpful and super nice. Pretty sure he went on to develop his own mobile app for stock cars and dirt racing too 👍
Makers of AC: "Conversions add nothing to the experience" This video: Hold my DAM Jokes aside I'm very much looking forward to the 2nd run of the event and hopefully I'll be able to take part in it as well. :)
Me too mate, last year we nearly had a full grid and it was great fun to take part in, even if I did get binned on the 2nd lap! 😅 Not sure what cars or format for this year though, was thinking perhaps multiclass so people can choose a slower or faster car depending on their skill/comfort zone. Maybe GT3 and a prototype? Both classes work really well around here, there's a nice flow in the GT cars but when you get in something with a little aero those medium-high speed corners just come alive. I definitely know it'll start at late afternoon/sunset and progress into the night though, probably with increased time acceleration so everyone gets the full effect. The way the lighting has been done in the conversion is awesome 👌
Thanks mate 😁 keen to know what you think! I know I'm a little biased but I always thought the laptimes were quite fitting for whatever kind of car you'd want to take round. Pushing 1m 30-40s in an F1 car but hovering around the 2m mark for GTs. I think if you can crack a sub 2m lap then that's a decent benchmark for a top level car 👍
This video just tipped me over to get AC. It is on a 90% discount at the moment, btw... : ) Superb presentation, Dan! Can't believe you even flew over to the US for that intro shot, seems a bit windy there. Please book me in for november. The event in AMS was already great, but now with the features of AC it will be even better. Can't wait to run through Jorenson into the tunnel in VR. : D
That's an incredible discount 🤯 well worth it for anyone else watching/reading this right now who might be considering getting AC! Anyone who has a corner named after them has a guaranteed spot on the grid 😉 although not sure on the car or format yet, apart from the fact it'll be a sunset to night race. Perhaps a multiclass race could be interesting but plenty of time to figure things out! Good spot on the windy conditions by the way 😅 that was far tricker to record than you might imagine...
Can't say I've tried that car yet but anything near the 2 minute mark in something that isn't a prototype or high powered single seater is a quick time 👀 although a little downforce really brings those medium to high speed corners alive. Glad you enjoyed it though mate 😁 thanks for giving it a go!
Nice jacket! Love the idea of a series of races at this track. So much to choose from in AC, I'll nominate the Porsche 936 and it's rival the Renault Alpine. 70's Le Mans cars need love too!
That jacket must be nearly as old as the circuit 😅 I've had it for many years although it's definitely a lot tighter than it used to be. Loving the idea of the classic Le Mans cars around here though, since I could definitely get some classic old circuit vibes especially from the first sector. I really think there could be something to this Thermalito leaderboard top gear/Jimmer style 🤔
Congratulations, Dan. The circuit looks excellent in AC. You asked for hot lap suggestions: Alfa Romeo 155 Ti V6, Porsche 718 Spyder RS (you'll get a nice view of the track in VR), and the Lotus 2-11 GT4.
Thanks Stephen 😁 it's just mind blowing being able to experience this circuit for the first time all over again. Sure it's the same models and textures and so on...but just having it in a new game engine with new shaders and physics/FFB is just mind blowing. Thanks for the suggestions too, I'll give them a try some time 👍
This track is awesome I remember watching this race you had here and the result of that made me subscribe to your channel . I will be downloading this later to take a spin around this work of art , and will let you know how I get on . P.s keep the videos coming mate great stuff
Oh wow, I didn't realise it was the community event that made you sign up 🤩 in that case, I hope you enjoy driving around Thermalito and that it lives up to your expectations! Maybe even see you on track in November... 😉
Hey Timothy 👋 the amount of work that went into making Thermalito for rF1 was just insane, literally months, so unfortunately I can't see myself taking on any other track building projects again unless I suddenly find _ a lot_ of free time 😉 but if I can give Thermalito a facelift in terms of redoing some of the kerbs, track surface, textures etc then that'll be enough to at least bring it into the modern era of sim racing. Some of these trackside objects sure do look a little blocky don't they 😅
@@DDFRacer Yeah making tracks for simracing is definitely taking a lot of time. Also I just realized that I wrote love wrong😂. I remember you wanting to do a frus championship. Are you still wanting to do that or did you abandon the idea?
@@timothy4290 good memory, wow! Yep the custom AI Indycar championship in RaceRoom has been a long time dream of mine, but it's a little tricky since it'd take a fair amount of time to record and, generally speaking, my AI races tend to not get many views unless they're about a relevant car. For example a new release 👍 That said, RaceRoom are going through the single seaters one by one and updating the physics. They've done the Formula Junior, F4 and more recently the F3 and F2 as well so, you never know. The FRUS could be next...
Thanks Dmitry 😁 rFactor seems like such a long time ago! Having Thermalito in Assetto Corsa opens it up to many more possibilities though, especially in terms of visuals. It might be a straight conversion right now but hopefully in a few months I'll be getting around to updating the textures and making it look a little prettier 👍
I drove Thermolito for the first time this morning in a couple of cars from the RSS GT pack and its a good track - I enjoyed it. Dan - you should get your buddies at Sector 3 to license it from you so they can build a modern version for Raceroom..... Think of the $$$$$$$ :-)
I mentioned the idea to the devs when the AMS1 conversion was done last year but I didn't get any feedback, I even offered to learn and do whatever work I could to personally help out 🤔 but maybe if this AC version becomes quite popular I could ask again. I'd love to see a modern version made, even made full plans for what a redesign would be like 👍 photos.app.goo.gl/2wh52fMqzcP6VQPb7
The graphics and track surround content is a little dated and could do with some work but I liked the layout of the track. It's not easy to drive well and you have to be wary of some of the bumps as they can unsettle the car but it's fun to race. I also loved the downhill left hander (can't remember its name) - it's a fantastic bend even in my lardy Lister Storm GT1 car. If that was your first attempt at designing a track from over a decade ago then it's a decent effort. I have lots of AC tracks that are nowhere near as much fun to drive and isn't that what sim racing is all about? It doesn't matter how good the graphics are, if the track design is a lemon then people won't drive it.
Cheers DONK 😁 although first and foremost before we even consider a DDF event, I believe there's a certain Moonie GT hotlap challenge to be taken care of here 😉
@@DDFRacer There certainly is and just in case you're not aware the rules have changed and your allowed to use custom setups so good luck to everyone. I know the car can be a bit tricky so hopefully this'll help.
