The first singer sounds a lot like Snow White. Am I the only one who thinks that? (Which is strange, seeing how Snow's voice actor, Adriana Caselotti, was a coloratura, not a soubrette.)
well, light coloratura voice is really similar to soubrette in like 95%. there ain't much difference. they both have great coloratura skills, maybe it's that soubrette has a tiny bit lower tessitura.
I'm a soubrette and the amount of songs I recognize from my time in lessons really makes me wonder why I didn't see it sooner 2:42 and 4:05 Alleluia 4:50 Italian Street Song 5:30 and 7:17 Juliet's Waltz
I'd say even Kate Bush could be a Soubrette Soprano since she carries medium to little vocal weight and power to her high register and since she sounds very sweet and child-like in terms of timbre and sound (although she could very well be a Lyric Coloratura Soprano since she's showcases trills and other coloritura passages. Fullhouse,Wuthering Heights and her early demos are good example)...Anyway a good video! Are you planning to make some videos also for other in-between voices like Spinto Soprano or Tenor,Heldentenor,Baritenor,Verdi Baritone and Bass-Baritone? You could use both classical music singers and pop/rock singers! If so, I could provide some examples...Bye.
@ Everyone, Britney Spears is CLEARLY a soprano voice. Her tone is not the dark color of a mezzo's at all. It does not carry mezzo weight. Not even in her older age. Any difficulty in her upper register can certainly be attributed to her bad, bad technique - her voice isn't naturally low or dark...like at all. I don't know where people get that from.
Her voice IS naturally LOW and DARK. I don't know where any of you get this soprano or soubrette crap from because it's truly baffling. Like for crying out loud her tessitura is from G3 to Eb5, her belting capabilities fall right in the mezzo region and she easily can project below E3 with little to no problem, how is any of that conducive to her being a soprano?.
You gotta re-assess what you consider to be "dark". Ain't nothing about Britney's voice 'dark' or 'lachrymose' or even slightly 'husky'. No characteristics of a lyric mezzo are there. Range isn't every thing you know. Watch the video and the examples it uses. You can't seriously think that Britney Spears belongs in the same category as Amy Winehouse or Adele or Alicia Keys or Mary J. Blige or... ...any lyric mezzo...because Britney is not a lyric mezzo.
***** No she HAS NOT. Lmmfao when she was a little girl she didn't even sound like a little girl. +Clark Smith Britney's natural voice is dark, that's a fact it's not an opinion. Her tessitura is that of a mezzo-soprano that is a fact. She has the lower register of a mezzo that is a fact. I'm not stating an opinion in stating facts.

A lot of the operatic voices showcased in this video can actually be considered coloratura sopranos. Coloratura refers mainly to flexibility, like having lots of runs. The ladies singing Alleluia, Caro nome, The Doll's Song, Italian Street Song, the polonaise from Mignon and similar arias, I would consider them to be coloratura sopranos. The soprano singing Musetta's aria felt like somewhere in the lyric soprano spectrum, a more fuller and warmer voice. When I think of operatic soubrettes, I think Susanna from The Marriage of Figaro, Zerlina from Don Giovanni, Cupid from Orpheus in the Underworld, Despina in Cosi fan tutte, Papagena in The Magic Flute, Serpina in La serva padrona, etc. A considerably lower ranged soprano with a pretty light tone, in the middle between being a more flexible voice and a more lyrical voice, plays a lot of "saucy" character roles.
The fact that Britney isn't even naturally a soubrette and sings with a faux tone though. The fact that you used a clip of 'soda pop' which contradicted everything about a soubrette voice though. And the fact that you said her tessitura is B3-B5 when it's really G3 to Eb5...like I can't.
ladysasha90 No, you're wrong. You're judging Britney after she start smoking cigarettes. Britney always had a rather angelic voice, but she always had preference in using her region deeper. She hits high notes quite easily at the beginning of her career in the background of her songs.
+Darren Criss angelic voice is not a requirement for being a soubrette. Britney's natural voice is dark and cavernous. Her tessitura lies in the middle range not the higher range. Britney's songs are mostly composed between G3-Eb5 which is the tessitura of a lyric mezzo-soprano. A Soubrettes tessitura lies between C4-C6, this has NEVER been Britney.
Britney's voice is a mystery tbh. I know how deep she can go, but she has a very light voice if you hear her slower songs, especially "Sometimes" and "Everytime" where she shows the difference between her full voice and her falsetto. You're talking only about her tessitura, which is one of the latest things we should talk about Britney because she doesn't have any technique.ladysasha90
No. It's different entirely it usually sits between coluratura and lyric, but it isn't necessarily darker than dramatic coluratura and lighter than light lyric.
Britney isnt a Soubrette, her natural tone is actually pretty low. I saw the comment below saying she's a contralto, don't know if she's that either but yeah. the soubrette classification doesnt suit her voice.
I loveee this video so much it makes me know more about soubrette sopranos, but I heard that Britney spears is actually a contralto in a website I'm not so sure if the website is correct tho I'm not good in music theories, I hope that u can make a video on dugazons like Lana del rey because I heard dugazons the first time on a channel and I'm interested to know more about it professionally Thank u and sorry to trouble u in anywayyy
This is just me, but I don't think it's fair to classify pop singers with the fach system (that's what it's called, right?). Depending on the vocal positioning, they can sound like a soubrette one time and maybe a dramatic at another. For instance, with Spears, without the fake baby voice, her natural singing voice is that of a contralto, because that's where she sounds strongest. Not sure if the soubrette, coloratura, lyric, dramatic classifications would be appropriate for pop.
@@believeit8103 I think it's because of the fact that she has hit Baritone low notes before WITHOUT autotune and she pulled it off pretty well. HOWEVER, I as a fan know that she is not a contralto because her voice is not androgynous or as dark as a contralto, comparing her to my mother, a true contralto, Britney sounds a lot more feminine even in her lows. I think it's pretty clear that she is a Low-Mezzo not a contralto nor a soprano.
Why do you all give Britney Spears as a soubrette example? She is not a natural soubrette. She is a mezzo that’s her fake voice. Give Janet Jackson ,Jenifer Lopez or Selena Gomez as examples. Those are real soubrettes.

In reality , while Britneys voice is not really too close to that of a mezzo and closer to that of a soprano, when looking at how she shines in her lower register , classifying her as a soprano wouldn't really help her as a vocalist when looking at her tessitura ( although yes other factors of her voice most certainly correlate to a soprano).
