Hey, I haven't made this yet, but I intend to. I wondered, though, if there is something that can be substituted for the cayenne. My mother can't have cayenne pepper, so I wondered if there was anything else that might be similar? Also, if I don't have any fresh ingredients, can I use store-bought ground ingredients, and in what quantities?

    • @TexasGardenDoc
      @TexasGardenDoc  9 месяцев назад +1

Hi there! That’s actually great news. I hope that you do go to try!
Is it just Cayenne pepper that she has a problem with or is it all capsicum? You can definitely omit any part or piece that you don’t like, or have an allergy too.
You can definitely switch fresh gradients for powdered or dried in most cases, the dried ingredients you would use roughly half of the quantity for the fresh ingredients.
You can also add in things like fresh onion. I also have added horseradish, which is really good if you omit the peppers, I would say the most critical items would be the lemon juice, the garlic and the honey. Those things together really do work well together.
      I hope that helps!

Thanks for this video. What I do and this just what works for me and my family is just plain mixtures of all chopped up ingredients in a mason jar and just use them when I eat salad as my dressing so I use olive oil as well. But I do understand what you do because I’ve done that too when I have sniffles which is great! Thanks again for this video. Stay blessed!

      Hi there!
That’s actually how I always made it before, in a mason jar. I started using these because they don’t take up as much space in the refrigerator. It would also be much easier if I strained it out before putting it into the tall bottle, but I really like to leave all those pieces in chunks in there. At one point I did leave it in a jar for about a month and then strained it into the bottles, but I really missed all those pieces!

Love the vids. I actually do similar but add a couple tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil to my cold remedy. Plus i harvested one of my potted ginger plants as it wasn't doing well and got about a 3inch harvest out of it. Reason for early harvest was our weather up here got to -47°c a few weeks ago so our heater was right to max to stay warm and plants didnt fair to good with it

Allen! So great to hear from you again!
That’s interesting the extra virgin olive oil definitely could help with something like this. That’s a great idea. I’ll have to keep it in mind!
Yes, the weather chaos has been less than desirable I think for everyone. All of my early fall plantings which should not have gotten a hard freeze until late January or early February, got hit in early December. That means I lost a bunch of my fall in early spring vegetables. I’ve been needing to replant, but I’ve been so busy moving to my new garden and getting things organized and I haven’t had much time.
It’s good that you got to use some of that ginger that wasn’t doing well though. At least it doesn’t go to waste and you can use it.
Hopefully the weather stabilizes into something we would call normal soon, I don’t think I can take much more either! Lol.

Easy there buddy. What is a capsicum? It’s a pepper. What is a chili? It’s a capsicum. People throughout history have done terrible things, and wonderful things. However to argue the word chili versus pepper, is incorrect. Botanical names, also known as scientific names, are the true identifiers of all plant and animal species. COMMON names are the vernacular word used to describe items within the scientific names. Are you wrong about how things were’ mislabeled’ probably not. Are you wrong that a capsicum, common name ‘pepper’ is not also a ‘chili’ yes, to some degree you are incorrect, and to some degree you are correct as well! I don’t have any issue trying to identify the origins of a common name or a scientific name. What I do have a problem with is calling people stupid because they don’t agree with your world view.
If you want to have a history and science discussion, we can absolutely do that. But do me a favor, leave out other people that are not attempting to insult anyone and who are simply going by the names they’ve always heard and are presented with.
Only warning that I have is this; have a civil discussion, and leave emotional facts out of the conversation. If you want to do that we can. If you can’t do that, I will remove you.
I don’t think you are wrong, just off base I. Your approach to how you handle cultural differences.
