Anthony drops a bomb when he talks about his recent ‘induced coma,’ the visions he had coming out of it, and the positive changes it brought to his life. We get into a lot this week… like stories of standing up to Val Kilmer, the harsh pressures of being the eldest son in an Italian family, aspirations for professional soccer, chasing the EGOT, problems with directors on set, arrests during Empire Records, and a whole lot more.

Why ANTHONY LAPAGLIA Had to Retaliate Against VAL KILMER When They Met on Set #insideofyou #anthonylapaglia #valkilmer
Holy shit!! I literally just learned that Anthony is an Aussie!! I never knew that, all this time!! *mind blown*
Val Kilmer's role as Doc Holliday, in the movie, Tombstone, will never be equaled.
Say when
Also his role as Jim Morrison was legendary
Yes it will. Ive seen better
@@Johnnyrocks34 Not many people can do better than Val in his roles. He is a legend. LaPaglia even is just mediocre at best.
@@josephmanzuni8593 I’m just joking around. In his day he was excellent. There s been so many just amazing performances over the years. It’s hard to choose greatest. I think heath ledgers joker was just incredible
Anthony was perfectly cast in So I Married an Axe Murderer. That was the first role I remember seeing him play.
"Charlie, two words: therapy!"
I think he broke character with how Mike Myers playing the dad role had him rolling. And that poor boy! "HEAD!"
Remember him in Frasier..Daphne's brother.
Yes!! We love that movie
SO underrated a movie.
Anthony was referring to the movie SALTON SEA when working with Val Kilmer. It's one of the more underrated movies that Kilmer ever did.
Yah i realy like spartan also but the salton sea is a classic in my books
I'll have to check that one out. I only watch the older stuff these days. Hollywood is just full of disgusting Elitists.
Great drug movie.
@@nellietolb420
Drug store cowboy 👌
It's amongst my favourites. So little money to make it, so much culture out of it. Great soundtrack too.@@crimedramadvdhotspot7720
Loved his show, Without A Trace. Watched it every week. He was also great as Daphne's brother on Frasier.
I worked on that show, for over a year, and I have to say I left with a huge crush on him. He seems off here, like he's sick or something, but at work he was so charismatic, so funny. Between scenes he'd be sitting in front of his Airstream trailer, smoking a cigar and talking on the phone to the person who co-owned a rugby team with him, lol. Such a character.
I did too thank you I forgot the name of that series it was a really good show. I wish they would show it in reruns again.
Just saw an episode of "Frasier" yesterday where he guest starred as Daphne's brother.
He was hilarious in it, and so was Fraser's disgust and disstain for him.
@@dhenderson1810 *disdain. Yes, Anthony was very good as Simon, lol.
Nice to hear his native Australian accent come through here and there. He is just one of those actors that is solid in everything he does.
Have you seen " So I married an axe murderer" if not please watch then I'm sure you'd refine your opinion on this plank's talent to do anything but be wooden.
I'm serious, I didn't know he was an Aussie for the longest time. He's that good!
After all these years, I never knew he wasn't American. His American accent is amazing. Was convinced he was from New York. Bravo.
I thought I was so impressed by Hugh Laurie playing an American doctor, but Anthony was just as impressive on 'Without a Trace' playing an FBI agent. I kept thinking he was American when I first watched that show as a kid. Both were great on those respective shows.
Those who lose their Australian accent to make it big in the US never become that successful. Look at Portia DeRossi. Being a try hard won't get you anywhere. On the other hand, Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman, two of the most famous Hollywood actresses, still retain their Australian accents. It's hilarious to me as it is pathetic.
I just saw Anthony in Melbourne, playing Willie Lohman in Death of a Salesman. Fabulous job. He is an awesome actor!
Loman
My daughter was an extra in a Val Kilmer film years ago. She told me when the extras were having their morning coffee at a table, barely awake, he lit off firecrackers very close to them and made her spill her hot coffee on herself. She didn't find it very funny nor do I.
AL as Daphnes brother Simon on Frasier was hilarious. Every line was gold
He was awesome as Simon. Stole a lot of scenes.
One of the best side characters ever. You're right, every line was hilarious 😂. Then I see him in a serious role and I'm like" How the Hell is that the same guy?"
@davidlarsen-tj4tn He was hilarious as Simon!!!
It was his poor accent that made me laugh.@@ElTemible1810
really loved lapaglia in empire records.
"Damn the man! Save the empire". LOL
Yes! I love how he/the boss in Empire has every right to flip out on the one who lost his $, but instead he buys time all day, keeps a fairly cool head doing other things, protects all his young employees ♥
Same !!
I've worked in the industry a little bit wearing different hats (grip, set medic, set designer, script supervisor), sometimes more than one on the same set, and banter like what Val did can be either a welcoming sight or destroy whatever momentum they've built up. It all depends on the reaction and I think this reaction was perfect. It could easily have blown up and ruined a day of shooting, but he rolled with it. Sometimes shenanigans can build comradery and chemistry on a set and Star Trek : TNG is a perfect example of that.
I love these clips, as I've learned so many great things about some of my favorite actors, like when you had Annette O'Toole on talking about how she saw Christopher Reeve in his Superman suit for the first time. Great stuff. Same with your bits with Tom Welling talking about Smallville. I didn't care much for some of the writing, as I'm a pretty big Superman fan who grew up on Christopher Reeve/Richard Donner version, which I consider the gold standard, but it's just my opinion. Smallville's cast was great and did very well with what they were given. Again, my opinion. You're never going to make everyone happy, especially fans of arguably the most famous comic book character of all time. So my hat's off to you and the rest of the cast for taking it to 10 seasons. Not many comic book based or inspired TV shows can claim that.
I did like the episode where Christopher Reeve plays a scientist who discovers where Clark is from and I loved the idea of it being a "passing of the torch". Tom saying he didn't want to know too much about Superman before doing the show so he could have his own take on it, instead of trying to fulfill some notion of repetition or whatever (I can't remember the quote properly and I apologize), and I respect that. We want to see out heroes on screen, but different versions or takes is good as it gives them a chance to try to keep the essence of the story, "fix" a mistake made in previous versions, or go down a plot line in the comics no one has ever done before.
I can be pretty bull headed when it comes to accuracy, but as long as the core idea and concept of the character is there and nothing changed contradicts that .... I'm happy enough.
Thank you very much for these interviews and I hope they go on as long as possible.
Holy shit...I've like Anthony LaPaglia forever -my two favorite films with him in are, So I Married an Axe Murderer, and Empire Records- and I never knew he was born and raised in Australia. I thought I was losing my mind hearing his accent go back and forth from N.Y. to aussie.
HAHA for real, I was like wth is this accent, I thought he was American all these years. I had to look him up and found out where he's from. blew me away.
I came for the story, loved it for his impression of Val. 😆 Also, I always especially loved Anthony in his recurring role on Frasier. 😂
I thought i recognized him. It was his role, and the roles of the other brothers of Daphne that put me off watching Frasier. The whole lot of them brought the level of the show down.
@@colinglen4505 I love that sitcom. Daphne's family were, indeed, way over the top, but it was intentional. He was also only in very few episodes. And the other brothers, I think, only in a single two-part episode. To each their own though! 😊
I had no idea Anthony was Australian
I remembered from.Analysis That.
Wait! LaPaglia is an Aussie! 😮 I did not know that.
Me neither
So is his actor brother.
Same here.
Yes, he is amongst the large allay of Australian actors who have found success on US shores.
As an Australian, I am proud of so many Australian actors making it.
The highest grossing movie of 2023 ("Barbie") was lead by Australian Margot Robbie, who started out in Australian soapie "Neighbours", as did Guy Pearce and Holly Vallance.
Chris Hemsworth was in another Australian soapie called "Home And Away" before hitting Hollywood.
Simon Baker from "The Mentalist" said that he was told directors like to work with Australian actors as they are often more humble and work harder, as they had to work hard to even get into Hollywood to begin with. They are less likely to be divas or think that they are owed something.
Interesting fact.
Anthony LaPaglia is Australian, as was his "Without A Trace" co-star, Poppy Montgomery.
I think "Without A Trace" was the first US show to have both its male and female lead be Australian.
Rare glimpses of Anthony LaPaglia’s native Australian accent 😁
I worked with Anthony on his TV series. Such a lovely man. So good to the crew and support staff. That's sadly rare.
As someone who was on the receiving end of something similar to Anthony's story about the coffee, I think Val Kilmer respected you for retaliating and proving that you wouldn't take sh*t from anyone, no matter if they were well-known or not.
Jesus I was 15 when “Empire Records” came out and I was today years old when I found out Anthony was Australian.
😊
I like at 3:30 in the clip he straight up picks his nose a few times! Pure class LOL 😜
The Salton Sea, what an awesome movie!
I loved how Anthony Lapaglias character even hated dolphins. @@NHL94Rebel
Did you bring the plastic men!?
No man, That's just some good glass talking.@@mikelane2866
Poignant! I recall his junkie buddy making big plans and then running by his gurney…
This movie had so many great actors in it. They all did their part in weaving a film that I could watch over and over again.@@joshuacalkins
Anthony LaPaglia was so great in Empire Records.
This interview was sooo good guys. Powerfuk and moving. Keep up the great work😎
Yes it was very good. But I don't think it became that rigorous , but the second part i agree.
Looking at 60 next year. But I still reminisce about the days when I was young, and strong, and could powerfuk. 🤣
@raywalsh9152 haha I just realized my typo 😅😅😅😅😅
Absolutely love Anthony. Lantana is still one of my favourite movies. And SIMAAM is an all time classic ❤️
One of my favorite movies….29th street w Anthony and Danny Aiello
One of the all-time great Christmas movies.
The bluegrass of Kentucky
such an underrated actor. One of the best to come out of Australia
Val Kilmer is the reason I will never watch the academy awards:
His portrayal of Doc Holiday was a hands down oscar-winning performance, and he didn’t even get nominated!
What about Bob is one of my favourite movies. The cast was incredible.
What about Bob is one of my all time favorite movies!!!
He’ll always be Simon Moon to me.
I’ve always like Anthony, and this moment made me adore him. So easy-going, but not going to let anyone walk all over him. Like that very much
"People Get In Trouble" should be on a t-shirt 👕
Balibo is the greatest movie role Anthony has done
lantana
Sounds like he and Val have the same sense of humor.
Good story. 😄
It's called a handkerchief.
I haven't seen Anthony in a long time. He was GREAT as Daphne Moons brother on Frasier. I love him.
He’s one of those actors that just inhabits the roles he plays. Loved him on Without A Trace as well.
Val Kilmer is great but name anyone that ever wanted to work with him a second time. That's almost unheard of to be that good and have no one want to work with you twice.
This is awesome. I saw Tony at Her Majesty's Theatre for death of a salesment. The cast was outstanding but the set was a bit awkward. He is a top bloke and actor.
29th Street movie one of the great Gems were the cast was great and a great story
👏So few know that movie. I worked in a video rental store in Ireland when that came out. We had a single copy of it and I never hesitated to recommend it. I'd say the majority of those who tried it enjoyed it.
Facts
Can someone get him a tissue.
Nice to see Anthony’s not as inclined to believe hearsay and and third-hand accounts as Michael, regrettably, is.
Always gotta love the "well hes in that movie i love" argument.
I never knew he was Australian all those years i saw him act
Damn the MAN. “Save the EMPIRE!”
fantastic......
[2A thingy] to my head, this is the first time I’ve ever heard this guy speak in his native accent!
Yep he is aussie born and bred, use to see him in aussie films growing up in sydney.
did he pick his nose during this segment? Love him as an actor.
I know he's not British and I was still actually confused for a second when he didn't talk like Simon Moon.
He's an Aussie.
The Salton Sea is my favorite Kilmer flick; it goes pretty hard
What. The. Hell! Ive been watching Anthony in movies my whole life. As far back as '93 in So I married an axe murderer. I had no clue hes Australian! I thought he was a NYer or something
Betsys Wedding probably won't be lauded by the Library of Congress anytime soon. Nevertheless, its charming and likable and LaPaglia STEALS that movie as hard as anyone ever stole anything!
🤘😎🤘
I loved how great he played that part! That little love story is why I even like the film at all.
My Favourite AL movie!, Phoenix?.
I hope your feeling better Anthony ❤🇨🇦
Wow when I saw him in Frasier I was convinced he was a Cockney ! (Londoner) 😮
Anthony and Empire Records ❤
29th Street....best Christmas movie ever!!!
Val Kilmer will always be a Real Genius.
How is nobody commenting on the sheer number of watches he's wearing...I count 4 that are visible
Why is he wearing two watches?
In case one falls off
Maybe to keep track of 2 different time zones
I had no idea this dude was Australian.
"I Had to get it on... he was makin a move I had to get it o...." Robert DeNiro comes in out of nowhere and starts smackin the shit out if him "MMMMMRRGGFFF....!!!"
Every interview is now a shoot interview until further notice
One of the first movies I saw in a theater was tombstone and I thought Doc Holiday was the coolest character, I’d go around pretending I was him when I was playing outside
DAMN THE MAN, SAVE THE EMPIRE!!!
holyshitt - next time I Can't fall asleep, I'm gonna out this on.
I thought he was good playing the Undercover Detective in the Vampire Movie- Innocent Blood. I was surprised to find out tht he was Austalian, but i found that out a few years ago. He has a brother who is also an Actor. I think his biggest role was playing the Time Traveling Hero in the Sci-Fi Series Seven Days. He also played the (I think unnamed) lead actor in the Movie that Christopher and the other Sopranos Charcters produced. I think hte name of that Fictional Movie- a Mafia Horror Movie was called Cleaver.
Both him and Anthony have flawless American Accents.
In all these years, I never realized he was Aussie!! 😅
His accent has faded so much since the 90s/00s.
I heard Val was kind of a little goofy. I’m reading his book and he said he was a free spirit in a way
Colin Farrell as an older man
29th street is one of my favorites. Ppl go see it
Watch him in NITRAM. Breathtaking performance.
Westernkind is amazing all over the world!
Great story
It sucks when our Aussies loose our awesome accent !
He's Australian?!? What?!
He was good as Barry the Blade in the Client 👍😊
Does anyone remember when he played Daphne’s brother on Fraiser? He was really funny.
As a British lover of all things Frasier I am afraid his accent as her brother eclipsed Don Cheadle’s car crash on Ocenas 11
Hands down the worst attempt I have seen on TV
It is also made no sense geographically.Daphne was Mancunian. He,therefore should have spoken like Noel Gallagher not faux cockney like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poopins
I prevents me from watching any Frasier episode that he is in.Which is a shame because he has good comic timing. But dude, that accents is truly terrible
guys.... really.... why do they wear head phones when they are 4 feet from each other?
Ohhhh this man is even more perfect tho I thought
I thought he was Gabriel byrne for a second
Ill be honest. Ive heard of Val Kilmer. Ive seen this guy but never knew his name. I bet its the same way for a lot of people.
Val was also in Wonderland playing John Holmes and he was excellent in that role also. I believe a lot of the negative feedback you hear about Val being difficult on set is due to his always striving to be the best he can in any role. Outside of the stress of being on camera everyone I've seen comments from all think Val is a good person and easy to get along with.
Anthony is Poppy Montgomery's God father in real life. She plays Samantha is Without a Trace.
Empire records... one of my nostalgia drug movies...
Literally fell asleep listening to the first 2 minutes…..sooo confusing
Lapaglia can form a sentence unless it’s from a script. I’ve watched a couple interviews and at some point I can’t understand the 5 tangents he goes off on trying to tell one small story....there’s always other people involved (in his mind) that have nothing to do with the story itself but he has to name them all; but he can’t remember the order or who was there. He’s like a kid ordering ice cream for the first time by himself.
Tony replaced Daniel benzali on murder one. Am i right?
The character Bill Murray played was an asshole in what about Bob. I think that played into it from what I've heard.
I love anthony in a good marriage.
sounds like Val used to test people.
Great Interview. Also though, who cares if the person is a great actor or not, it is their behavior we are talking about and not the performance. Sound like someone is avoiding. Just saying.
Nah, it's the other way around. The important thing is whether they are good at their job. Of course there is a lower limit, where being an asshole interferes with getting the job done. But is that really the case with, say, Bill Murrey?
Everyone be like i worked with him. Yeah I worked with too. He’s all right i guess.
I had no idea he as Australian🤣
Two wristwatches?
Kilmer is an artist in an industry of merchants.
Robert Shaw hated Dreyfus.
Robert Shaw decided to be Quint all the time.
Kinda like when Val intentionally burned a crewman’s hair with a cigarette on Dr. Moreau…. F’n a hole!
Cocaine is a hellofa drug
If he was on coke, he'd be wound up, and thinner.
