Hearing stories like this is why I never care when other artists are credited as writers even if they're not the original writer. Money from publishing is a big deal and can leave you broke if you dont have it.
With Simon's record label the name should've been a red flag for any artist. I mean yes it's spelt "syco" but truly meaning "psycho" because it was toxic and had the bands under that label eventually go on hiatus.
But honestly 5k for the songs that are not really the most current and when you not really working at the moment does not sound that bad at all. Thats a pretty decent salary for something you've done in the past with other people. I'd dign right away that deal
Exactly. Plus I hate when artists complain about their label getting involved. These people are literally spending millions on you. You seriously think they're not going to give their input on how you're using THEIR money.
The thing that people fail to realize is that the label made 5H and the girls were the singers & front runners. The label is who made the music, the producers made it, the songwriters wrote it, and so pbviously percentages will be split between a bunch of people. Artists who sing what other people make, make money from touring, merch, performances, physical CD sales (which are not as common these days due to technology and streaming) so how can they complain when they literally did not write any of the songs or pay to promote the material?
You’re also disregarding the fact that the girls weren’t able to write their own material until the last album, when the label stopped caring about them, giving them, finally giving them some creative control. Little Mix fought tooth and nail at the start of their careers for the contract that 5H got ONLY on their last leg of album and tours…
They signed their contracts at 15 and 16. At that age, all they knew was signing a record deal is A BIG DEAL and they trusted the process. They then had to fight to get equal parts in songs... if they are already pit against each other, nobody will want to share their writing. Camila and Lauren were song writers but they did not have space to showcase that talent.
I think it’s really twisted that the face of the music doesn’t get anything. It’s like they’re only pretty faces and no substances, which is far from the truth. They deserved more for bringing joy to millions of people.
@@wlas4146that's unfortunately the truth with boy/girl band. Why would they get publishing if they didn't write? Lol And also... sorry to break it to you guys, but this is a business. The record company is the one spending the millions, therefore they deserve the lion's share of the profits. Don't like it? Be independent and spend your own money.
I'm on the fence about this. Celebrities are humans and def deserve to get paid for their work. But at the same time, there is a conversation around capitalism underpinning celebrityhood. Most celebs who are multi-millionares are far removed from everyday people, tone deaf on wage issues until it becomes them who are affected

If Taylor has to face the same sh*t when she writes her songs and sells the biggest stadiums it goes to show how the talent is not given basic rights. Like these artists are just cash cows.
New artists get screwed. If they can hold out through their contract length and become "free agents" then everything can open up. Kelly Clarkson said this. She was relieved when her contract was over. Only then did she have financial and creative freedom.
The music industry is so gross, how can the artists who make the songs successful are the reason whether or not the label sees a dime get priority of the revenue not just during but for the future too it’s sick

When it come to fame they are so quick to sign the contract. Contract gives the record label everything to f you over. For example let’s say the record label takes most of your ticket sales and merchandise sales album sales leaving you with less the 40-30% of the profits. If you don’t sign this deal your lost and there is you shot of being famous. That’s why young musicians/ or actors just jump the gun even though they getting f over.

wouldn’t be surprised if this topic is what leads to them reuniting in someway & them trying to get their royalties and control of their brand. Reminds me of how the group Xscape came back.
Ally is GREAT, I really like her, her voice is... muah, chef kiss, I love to see her doing interviews. On the other hand, wth is going on with peolpe STEALING from them, man, I hope they can figure it out soon and recieve what is fair! even 5 k a month is low, I think for being one of the biggest groups of these generation.
Oh please..I wish I could get 5k a month for work I did years ago..do u?
@@jadebel7006 of course but they get millions and millions of streams in a month, 5k it's not close to what they should be making
@@jadebel7006the point is they are owed much more, you shouldn’t just settle when other people are profiting off of your voice/talent than you are.
@@jadebel7006you realize that after taxes AND paying their respective teams, they’re not actually seeing 5k a month, and possibly quite a lot less
@@jadebel7006 for regular average people, of course we would love 5k. But for people like fifth harmony, they should get more than that.
I'm gonna be harsh right now, but earning $5k a month for work you did 8-9 years ago is pretty good. I don't get royalties for the arrests I made as a police officer.
Thank you ladies for the wonderful music you gave us.
And that’s why Rihanna don’t want to return anymore and selling lipstick in one year got what she could’ve in her whole career
Stop making assumptions. Unlike this idiot, Rihanna actually knows what she's doing when it comes to her music career 😂😂. Also Rihanna's fan base isn't entirely made up of teens. People actually buy her CDs.
This is what Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg said. Like, "yooow our songs got millions of streams but we don't get the money". So every time I see fans on Twitter brag about their fave artists got big numbers of streams - listeners, it means nothing if your fave artists don't get the money they deserve.
yes rooting for one last indie record! or (5th harmony version)
I love Ally so much. The most talented queen ever
New artist are always screwed over when they first start out unless they’re independent. Industries make them believe they are expandable because they kind of are until they get a name for themselves and are able to call their own shots and renegotiate their contracts. Kpop artist live paycheck to paycheck. Some barely make minimum wage while their companies take in millions from their deals.
THE SAME HAPPEN WITH TLC. WOW CAN T BELIEVE IT
That band was the biggest springboard into the entertainment world. If you fumbled after recieving all that help then that is on you.
One of my friends publish one of her storys in a very popular wrighting competition when she enterd the competition they madd her sigh up a policy "contract of legal propety" that basically said she gave all of her wrighting profits to the competicion she was so exited so she send her storys and they publish there winer in a book she did not grt in to the book so she was desapointed years later she was lisening to the radio a song and then she realiced it was her story they had taken her story made it a song and there was nothing she coud do o say since she signed a agreedment in the begining so even if the competition say you have ownership of the song its not true because en la letra chica it sais you give up the property to the concurso.
It's because they didn't write their songs...LOL The slit is already so small for streaming so after publishers and writers get their cut the artist doesn't get anything....Artists like them make all their money from touring, merchandising, brand deals etc. She said it...on their biggest hits they had no publishing rights or credits. But you also have to think that the label footed all the bills to market them, clothing, videos, etc. Independent is the better way to go for long term financial stability but it's also a harder uphill battle.
The Spice Girls were, and still are, loaded because they wrote every single one of their songs. Girl groups need to take notes.
the label didn’t let them write any of the songs
Is it true that fifth harmony is going to reunite? It's circulating on the internet
She teased it in another interview that “all the girls” are working on something together and out soon. But the question is, is it all 4 or 5? Guess we’ll see.
@@montyl.8232you already know Camila won’t be a part of it 😂 they haven’t been close with her ever since her departure from the group.
So now they own thr brand so they can re-record everything and make all the $$$ from it
@@ajhaines2309well yes, but there are still legalities with LA Reid and Simon Cowell that would prevent that. they own the Fifth Harmony name, but not the songs, even the ones Lauren, Dinah, and Normani wrote.
@@taeslilclown9801well even still .. they’re in a contract. I’m pretty sure that’s why they’re back together. Once you sign a contract you have to fulfill it. I think they had a 4/5 album situation .. if I’m wrong correct me.
Hearing stories like this is why I never care when other artists are credited as writers even if they're not the original writer. Money from publishing is a big deal and can leave you broke if you dont have it.
Thing no one talks about. These labels spend millions on marketing. So why wouldnt they take the biggest cut.
With Simon's record label the name should've been a red flag for any artist. I mean yes it's spelt "syco" but truly meaning "psycho" because it was toxic and had the bands under that label eventually go on hiatus.
Hate the music industry. The talent gets nothing and they should get the most chunk ❤
That's why Taylor started to break this industry apart. My hero.
How do execs literally get way with this is crazy to me. It’s 2023 now and I’m sure it didn’t change.
Why is Zach eating his microphone?
Do they make money off streams if they own their masters?
They don’t own their masters. The label owns it
@@platinumgreyx8976 I know, I’m asking if an artist does own their masters do they make money off of streams
The only people who makes money from groups are those that have a solo career afterwards
But honestly 5k for the songs that are not really the most current and when you not really working at the moment does not sound that bad at all. Thats a pretty decent salary for something you've done in the past with other people. I'd dign right away that deal
Why the sunglasses…
i would love for zach to talk less than his guests. What a concept
He straight told her everything he thinks that happened to her, and response was correct, right? Exactly, that's right, right. This was comical😂😅😊😮
LOL he needs to let her talk
Zach talks too much
is she interviewing zac? let her talk man
Correct she didn’t write, produce, construct or fund any of the music so why would she make a lot of money??
Exactly. Plus I hate when artists complain about their label getting involved. These people are literally spending millions on you. You seriously think they're not going to give their input on how you're using THEIR money.
The record industry is Shady💯💪🏿
why does zach come across as so bored and uninterested here it’s highkey rude
that's what happens when you sign a 360, lmao.
All she said was she didn't make a lot from streaming. That's standard no matter what kind of deal you sign.
It's a product and a business models where all the different parts are taken care of, they just need a pleasant face that can sell their products. American Idol is a another business model where everything in the contract is done to favor the producers. The performers have the choice to sign or not to sign. That's it. The old Crossroads deal with the devil.
Exactly exactly 💯
That’s insane that they don’t get anything from their hits 😢
Look into Kelly Clarkson and see how long her contract lasted. It is crazy.
Don't strike, do the auditing and get your money back legally.
If you notice Simon Cowells eyes they are cold like a sharks. He even tried to rip Little Mix off.
That's why these reality shows love putting bands together. Is cheaper
The music industry has changed a lot the time stars sold millions of LPs it’s over the era of Xtina Justin and Brittany where they really made millions of money is over.
The end of music Labels is near!!! Very near.
Lesson is to READ your contract
They were 15-19 years old when they signed on…
Not feeling her old self anymore at this point she seems colder and different . Also after her collab with Dinah I got so excited expected to see Dinah more and stuff … but checked the interviews .. mtv then here with Zach also saw her on Times Square for a collab or something else .. , billboard interviews and on Jenifer huds show … always putting Dinah last or if not not even mentioned or invited . Why just ally ?
I think money wise the ones who get more endorsement are Camila ally and somehow Normani . Not the other two .
Because ally Camilla have other ways of gaining money they have their own projects and accolades Emmy or nominations etc .. Collabs with brands makes up or jewelry. Including streams from
Their music . So don’t know expected a career boost from this for dinah but sis still is being sabotaged … they clearly prefer Latinas or fairer skinned band girls .
Or simply as Simon said the two first formers of the group were ally and Camilla don’t know the reason why but yeah hope donah bounces back .
messed up! awards are based on streams&/or sales but they get nothing. strike rn fr.
Could he let her speak?
I stopped feeling bad for these celebrities who get duped. This has been going on for a long as Hollywood has been around and people have been telling their stories for decades. Therefore, why would anyone coming into this business think that their situation would be different?
They were minors when the contract was signed
@@mickaelaprincesse9394 Well, I blame their parents then!
these girls were 16-19 years old when they first signed on…
@taeslilclown9801 And... they're parents are to blame then! Plus, they are not the first, nor second, nor 50th group of young people to fall trap to this. It's not new.
@@miggety7742 Most parents are clueless at the beginning too. The glitz and glamour and the fame that follows distract everyone temporarily, then once fame is profitable, they realize they're the ones not profiting just getting taken advantage of and at that point, it's too scary to quit.
music industry is so exploitative
This makes me so sad.. reminds me of the video of Lauren panicking and telling Ally that they're literally slaves... 😢
Why would they get publishing if they didn't write? Lol
And also... sorry to break it to you guys, but this is a business. The record company is the one spending the millions, therefore they deserve the lion's share of the profits.
Don't like it? Be independent and spend your own money.
I agree with you.
Artist needs to understand that being a independent artist is the way to go!!
what people need to understand.. if artists don't own there music masters... they are owed nothing! sad reality.
60k a year..
That’s not bad…
Poor girls 😢 So anyone whose going to participate in these shows need to the lawyer to look at the contracts
No wonder Cabello bounced.
Lol no she stayed with the same label on her first solo career
I'm on the fence about this. Celebrities are humans and def deserve to get paid for their work. But at the same time, there is a conversation around capitalism underpinning celebrityhood. Most celebs who are multi-millionares are far removed from everyday people, tone deaf on wage issues until it becomes them who are affected
This has nothing to do with capitalism. What are you talking about? 😂😂😂 Also who said anything about celebs not getting paid?
Damn ya’ll did her dirty with that thumbnail. I thought she was blind or something 😂
isnt tht how it works like artists usually doesnt make money from their music unless they also write, compose or produce it. dont they need royalties or if theyre the main producer, a copyright?
Actors being on strike is one thing…but music artists need to strike.
If Taylor has to face the same sh*t when she writes her songs and sells the biggest stadiums it goes to show how the talent is not given basic rights. Like these artists are just cash cows.
I mean. Back in the day; Lisa Lopez (TLC) said this. The biggest girl group of all time and they were getting mere pennies in royalties from a record.
ruclips.net/video/PKEjTTKGIUo/видео.html
New artists get screwed. If they can hold out through their contract length and become "free agents" then everything can open up. Kelly Clarkson said this. She was relieved when her contract was over. Only then did she have financial and creative freedom.
Not familiar with this channel but does he usually talk over the artists he interviews? 🤔 🙄It’s quite annoying, let her speak!!! 😫
I dont know why but I thought singers would get paid everytime their song is played, like royalties😅
The music industry is so gross, how can the artists who make the songs successful are the reason whether or not the label sees a dime get priority of the revenue not just during but for the future too it’s sick
TLC, Toni Braxton, and Danity Kane, anyone. Both went through similar experiences. And I remember them selling millions, top selling artists, and sold-out concerts, yet still owed their record companies. All started explaining/breaking down the linguistic of it all. Basically, it's a rip-off. Making something sound good when you are young without understanding
Also, think of Prince. He fought for years. That's why he was once called "the artist formally known as Prince" because he didn't and couldn't use his own name.
wow she looks different
When it come to fame they are so quick to sign the contract. Contract gives the record label everything to f you over. For example let’s say the record label takes most of your ticket sales and merchandise sales album sales leaving you with less the 40-30% of the profits. If you don’t sign this deal your lost and there is you shot of being famous. The record labels can put on the contract only music producers/engineers can write your music you have no freedom in writing your music and you it’s a 4 year contract you have to release 4 albums within that year before the contract is done or the record label can sue you because you signed an agreement contract to produce 4 albums within that year. That’s why young musicians/ or actors just jump the gun even though they getting f over.
$5000 × 12 = $60,000 yr. They made minimal wage after the success of fifth harmony.
OMG!!! Makes me wonder how much they got for touring
income tax in US is pretty steep so 35 000 😅
Did they not have attorneys to protect their rights, their interests???? I blame their manager and partly them for NOT having a written contract or otherwise to protect them and thier equity in their music and their career. It all comes down to having an ATTORNEY involved and making sure they're protected and review and verify ANY and ALL contracts. What a shame....... She said before they walk on stage they sign a contract.... well, did they NOT have an attorney there for their interest and protection reviewing the contract????? They should have had an attorney present, one who is there to protect their interest, and advise them on whether they should SIGN THE CONTRACT.
no they signed contracts before X factor auditions when they were teens
again, they should have had an attorney presnet to review the contract and protect their interest. They should have had an attorney who would have protected them.@@dt9538
There's always someone in the comments who's always loud talking about who they blame, but they really don't know what they're talking about.😂😂 Y'all be so quick to say "get an attorney" as if you've ever had to get an attorney to look over anything
let her talk bro :(
i mean, they are literally owned from the day they form the band. Ofcourse they are gonna get robbed of their earnings. The reason why most girl bands or boybands go solo after certain hits
Its true why people think celebrities make alot of money.
THEYRE NOT GETTING ANYTHING FROM ME LISTENING TO DOPE x5 a day?!
