The final machine used was just a sander and the sand paper grit was 120 👍
Hey so I have a wall that paint is peeling and I took it off but now it won’t belt me paint the wall because it comes of again and idk what to cover it up with
Can u plz help me
@@jacquelinedominguez1178 More probably than not, it is either wet, greasy, or non-absorbent.
If it comes off from the whole wall with the same level of ease, it is supposedly the third one.
Try to sand it with 120- (or even lower, 80 or even 60)-grit sandpaper (and, for a whole wall, seriously consider some tool for that) just a bit so that it _roughens_ the surface, then check if the paint sticks to it more.
(If it is the kitchen, though, then you will certainly have the grease problem, and that is a way tougher one.)
I thought he was going to tell me to use a plunger on the ceiling
Lashesnas Judging from the thumbnail, I totally thought the same 😂
Haha
😂 me too
Same! Lol I was kind of excited!
Thank you for this! My whole house.. no joke is like this. Ceilings, walls etc. I have a big project ahead of me 😭💕🙏🏻
Me too friend....:/
So annoying
@@tysonb3568 definitely! :/ This was super helpful though… just been doing one room at a time. Taking ages and is pricey but.. it needs doing 😭.
@@DarlingDucky what is the greyish thing that he is using after sanding it?
@@ixjxjxjjxjxjdklsk639 It's a plaster filler. Maybe topping compound.
This the first useful video ..mnay thanks
Great advice, would have been a good idea to remove the lampshade before though, save dust damaging it
My thoughts exactly 😂😂
I am a single woman who is about to paint a 2 bed room alone with a lot of cracks so I have to plaster & do it all alone 😩 any tips on all items I need to purchase
Thank you sir! Straight and to the point
What is the filler you used please ? I have little holes on my walls that need filling before painting
very informative. I'm a beginner..doing maint and painting patches for rental company, so this will certainly help. Thank you!
Would have been easier had he removed the light and shade
Not this light fitting. This one was on a chain which went through the roof and was attached to a timber beam.
Billshowto could have at least took the shade off 🤦🏻♂️
Still got the job done, why does it matter.
almost the hole calling has to have the paint scràped off can you help.
You said in 3 minutes what every other youtuber took 10 minutes and 5 seconds to say. Thank you!
thanks for that just the advice i needed :)
in exterior is the same process ? or you should apply some peeling paint product? thanks!
Lol first put plastic on lamp....
Please wear a respirator, sorry for the blunt comment. There could be lead or asbestos dust!
Thank you. I am in the process of cleaning and fixing up my parents old home to sell and I see a lot of cracking of old paint. Now I know how to fix it.
Hey bro what type of sand paper!? I hope you answer I’m doing mine tomorrow
Omg wow thank you, super simple
hi just want to ask whats the cause of it
im trying to paint my room and i was told to paint it with white matt emulsion paint. so I did but when I accidentally scratch the wall the paint comes off like chalk. im trying to paint my room with different pattern style but I'm worried if i take the take off the paint comes off. can someone help please?
My house is like this. I’ve scraped off the peeling paint, sanded edges, used gyprock joint compound, sand until smooth, gyprock joint compound again, sand until smooth, wiped clean. Then when I applied zinesser bull primer, random isolated spots peeled off (stuck to the microfibre nap) and exposed the under drywall. How do I fix this? Why does this happen? This also happened to a previously primed ceiling when I tried to lightly sand (after priming, after long dry time) the dust artefacts chunk peeled off and exposed the drywall underneath
Thank you for the video, learning how to scrap the cracked paint off my bedroom wall in order to repaint, this was very helpful!!!
No problem, it will be exactly the same procedure on walls as the ceiling 👍
Thanks Bill.
Nothing sexier than a Turkish looking guy speaking Aussie.
L. F. What made you pick Turkey,is that because when you saw him,you wanted to gobble him all up?
I thought I was the only one that thought he & his accent was HOTT! Lol
pretty sure he's leb
Thank you for sharing this video very very helpful! What do I do if I have spider cracks they don't want to scrape off I am tempted to sand them down. Please get back to me as soon as possible I feel like I'm never going to be able to finish this project
...I would want to confirm why the paint didn't stick in the first place and address that as well. As a minimum I would clean with an aggressive solvent, e.g., TSP, ammonia, or acetone, to remove any soot, nicotine, tar or grease. Followed by an oil or shellac based primer, before apply water based joint compound.
Yea ummm.... Do NOT use double sized tape on your wall... 😬
Prep 4 in 1 can be used before painting color on walls? Or should I get paint that is a combination of prime and paint?
Do you have to paint the entire ceiling after this?
Depends on your ceiling, generally I would recommend painting the whole ceiling 👍
You forget to apply PVA prior to filling in the voids.
Not necessary as the paper is still intact 👍👍
So helpful thank you 😀
You’re very welcome 👍
What plaster could I use,. Would Norma filler work?
chipping paint is a big problem at my house where working on it commented by Caleb Schultz
Thanks, I have used messed up paint and have to do a whole section. I did not know I could use the 5 in 1 tool as a scraper.
👍
Scrape off loose paint, and apply filler, skip the sanding part, prime and paint...
I’ve just started scrapping of the loose paint and it’s nearly the whole wall🤔
Exactly what i was looking for.. Thank you!
When i apply the paint later it shows the newly painted marks when viewed from certain angles after drying. Almost like a shiny patch. Whats thr issue here? Thanks
Can I just use sand paper instead of the sander machine?
thanks mate 👍👍👍
WOOOO i'm the 400th subscriber! I just recently bought my first house and there is a lot of flaking / bubbling paint and cracks and watching this video helped a lot, thank you!
Stodoys has very good designs and plans.
Super helpful, thank you so much ^_^
Hi , Could i use the Undercoat stain blocker primer to the bathroom walls to ?
Yes you can use it in the bathroom . Just make sure you clean the surface before painting as the bathroom is more prone to peeling due to moisture from the shower
Hi mate so just a quick one.
From what your saying I don’t have to remove all the paint from the shitty flaking bathroom roof i have. just the stuff that’s loose?
Hi that’s correct, this is a video of a bathroom ceiling 👍
ruclips.net/video/ZOijaU-qZNI/видео.html
I'm in love with the finishing touches ;)
Brilliant thank you! Just what I was looking for
Great job. How do you do the same thing on a popcorn ceiling.?
Our popcorn ceiling had asbestos in it. You should be careful
That was great..now can you come to my house and do it..lol
You sanded on the top of the light without protecting it?
Love this video. Clear, practical, succinct and easy to follow! Thank you!
I have this problem. Thanks for sharing bro. 👍 Subscribed.
This is my ENTIRE house. It’s a 1920s farmhouse and unless it’s a room where we replaced the Sheetrock, it cracks and peels when the weather changes. I’m wondering if the plaster walls just don’t mix well with today’s paint. We had two professional painters come in after my husband and neither could give us an explanation. I guess we will just have to continue to spot fix until we find the time to redo the sheet rock. Thanks for the video! Now I can do it myself without having him have to do it on his day off!
...calcimine is a water based white wash type product used on ceilings in older houses, certainly pre-1900 and early 1900's. You might try scraping off some of your peeling paint, then taking a wet terry cloth rag and wiping your ceiling/plaster. If you notice a white residue on the rag...and can see the color change on the area you are cleaning, going from an off white to a brighter white, it is a good chance you have a calcimine ceiling. Worse case I had was a "professional" painter tried to put a latex based texture/sand coat over a plaster ceiling with surface cracks, By the time he was finished the new paint, and the paint underneath was coming off in large patches. He left me to clean up his mess. I tarped the floor and scraped the entire ceiling with a 30 inch wallpaper removal knife. Brought the entire ceiling down to the original calcimine. Next day I washed all the calcimine off with sponges and terry cloth rags, frequently rinsing in clean water. I gave it several days to dry, then applied a coat of oil based Zinnsser Primer, and then latex ceiling paint. No more peeling.
Several paint companies make an oil and/or shellac based product designed to go over calcimine, obviating the need to wash the ceiling. The problem is with the paint that has been applied over the calcimine. If that is not removed then the bond of the expensive specialty paint is only as good as the bond between the calcimine and the top coat. Another easy way to check for calcimine is apply latex ceiling paint with a roller to a small section of ceiling, and let it sit for 20 minutes or so, then try to recoat it with a roller. If the original paint, and the recently applied paint start to bubble or come off on your roller, good chances you have calcimine. You could take a chance on trying to "dry roll it...i.e., put on a thin coat, without retouching it, but you run the risk of having the moisture from the new paint penetrating the the existing paint and dissolving the bond between the paint and the calcimine. Pulling the ceiling down and installing new drywall and or drywalling over the existing ceiling are other options. I have done demolitions on drywall over plaster and have found black mold on the back of the dry wall. Hope this helps. Sorry for the length. Good luck.
This is incredibly helpful and I will do a check tomorrow! Thank you so much- not a single person has ever suggested this to us!! Be well!
I have all the problems with the spackling itself. He just skipped that part and I’m so fucking terrible at it. It doesn’t stick to the ceiling, if I add more it just pulls the stuff I have on there off, it makes me dive head first off my ladder.
Lol , if you can elaborate more I’ll try and help you 👍
Billshowto I have a few theories as to why I was sucking. Another video says not to press hard. I was definitely pushing. Also if there needs to be more than 1 layer you should let the first layer dry before doing the second. Also, I might not have had it clean enough after I sanded.
So basically you’re saying that basically all you have to basically do is basically do what you did, basically? You got a thumbs up from me buddy... basically 👍🏻
So basically I say basically a lot??? 👍
so where is the link to speed up the "dry" process (I don't like waiting)... txs u in advance.

PLEASE SHOW HOW TO FIX FLAKING PEELING PAINT & WHAT PAINT TO USE - CEILING EAVES
Q: why use a 4in1 rather than just watered down paint as you would on normal bare plaster?
What filler? Plaster Filler?
Hi, this has happened to my bathroom, what would you recommend for me to use paintwise in a bathroom?
You should follow his steps but for painting step first you should get a good primer like Kiltz 3 then paint it with a high quality anti mold and mildew like Behr Marquee with semi-gloss.
@@dotaking82 😍😍😍😍😍 Ty!!
Great thank you 😊
Mate you going to see where you have done the touch up job, new paint on old paint.
I would of undercoated after scrapping
I thought there were a simpler way... That is some work here !!!
2:22 whats that tool exactly ?
An electric sander with a vacuum attached 👍
Your well fit ooft
What dry wall mud did you use?
Thanks Bill but removing your lamp shade might have been easier :)
Not in this case, the light was on a chain in the roof cavity 👍
Do you have a wife? 😄
Awesome mate! Very helpful.
👍
Can't I just paint over instead of using plaster filler?
You can, however it won’t be a smooth level finish.
You are handsome af 🥵
Awesome job! Very helpful tutorial.
I've always used regular water based paints but I've always too had that problem even though I've used "professional" painter
It’s a common problem, usually it’s because either the surface was not prepared correctly before painting or the wrong type of paint was used. I’ll post a video shortly on how to determine what paint to use
I have concrete walls but same problem, can this method be used, or would I have to treat the cause?
Hi, same method for repainting however as it is a cement wall you would not use plaster fill. Also if it’s a cement wall I’m assuming it an exterior which needs exterior paint. There could be multiple causes for the peeling paint. Hope this helps
Good job Bill
How do you do the edges of the bathroom which is curved?
Hi, for curved surfaces use a piece of sandpaper in your hand
Thank you Bill. Good advice!
My ceiling in m outside patio is peeling it is a large area...do I have to scrape it all?
Hi, you have to scrape where every the paint is flaking, peeling or bubbling. Any where the paint is not adhered properly you must scrape it others wise your new paint will also start to peel off
Great video! Thanks
I have some bits to do on the bathroom ceiling. Can I just use normal filler on them after scraping the rough bits off?
Normal plaster ( joint compound) is correct. Just make sure to apply primer on the newly patched area and also clean the area with a damp cloth after sanding.
@@billshowto thank you.
👍
After you apply the 4-1 you still need to paint it again as your final step right??
The 4 in 1 was the primer I was using. After the area has been primed you can then apply the ceiling paint
Billshowto cool! Last one.. i dont have the electric sander can i use the normal/manual one after i applied the plaster filler? Thanks for replying bro.. appreciate it 👌💪
No problem, regular sanding block is just fine 👍
Handsome man 😍
Thank you
Ill have to do mine too
Thank you.
What filler did you use please.
Hi , I used a premixed plaster filler/ joint compound. Depending on the country you live in it may be also known as something else such as spackle, drywall filler, putty or mud.
Thanks I needed this
👍👍👍
Very good!
Good men I subscribed
Thanks, great video, we’ll explained.
Happy I could help👍
Thanks
On ya bro that helped me out a lot, thanks:)
No problem 👍
What if the wall is asbestos, can you do the same process?
Hi, same process.
Vanessa Hampton Do not do anything with the asbestos until you get professional help. Asbestos can cause serious health Issues once tampered with.
Thank you
Can I buy those in Amazon?
Yes you can 👍
Cheers bill!
👍
I dont like this video because it doesnt show what kind of sander grit he uses, and what kind of final polish machine he uses.. too fast
