    All, ALL of your "tips/explanation" videos are a so thorough and just a wealth of information. Your 3 hour "Tips, myth busting etc" in particular is a must-see for any self-respecting guitar player. Doesnt matter that I'm actually a drummer.

    I used to do that what you said about a fake master volume, (about 7min. on the video)often after the first song some idiot sitting up front who thinks the band should cater to him alone and not to the whole room full of people would come up and insist that you're too loud when you are pretty sure you aren't.It definitely worked.The (outboard ?) FX master volume which was not connected to anything was good for that.I used to say to him,"Let me know how it sounds" after he saw me "turn it down" and he'd always (I think it was the same guy every where you went!)come to the stage after the next song and tell you it was way better.You make me laugh Scott.

    • @groovydjs
      @groovydjs  8 лет назад +1

      +will oconnor LOL, I hear you man. Then in the BACK of the room is always that same guy yelling for Freebird. When you walk into the gig....you ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS see the blue haired bastards that are one nap away from a coma there right up front with their hearing aid not more than 8" away from the mains. lol That's when it's great to just turn on the stuff, crank the kick drum and have someone pound that thing just once and send that geezer into cardiac arrest. lol

    Hi Scott, I love all your videos!! The last band I was in used to run a full P.A. mains, subs, monitors. I always liked playing Direct, no Bass amp for me what so ever!! It always worked well for me !! Take care Dr. Groovy !!

    Great shirt! We used to joke to our old lead player, that
    he welded the knobs, on his Marshall. He NEVER touched
    them!

  • @pocher69
    @pocher69 8 лет назад

    When I eq my computer speakers with an RTA I liked to start at 0 and work my way down into the - side of the eq to try and make my monitors flat as i like my music eqed flat or as close to flat as possible. Comes from the days of doing big car audio systems for shows and what not, was kinda the same when I DJ. A good friends of mines dad who built speakers and fixed speakers recones, etc... could fix almost anything audio. He said to always run your amps wide open no matter what. What people don't understand now is if you want it twice as loud you need 10 times the power and its always better to have too much power than not enough. Im glad I grew up in a time with big audio systems and love power amps! But the whole powered spear thing is really nice. I do run studio monitors with an 8" and a silk tweeter on speaker stands and a 10" sub and its some of the best sounding music i have herd so I don't listen to Dr. G on no piss ant laptop speakers.

  • @audibletapehiss3764
    @audibletapehiss3764 2 года назад

    A lot of drummers have to be sat down after the gig and have it explained that it IS in fact possible to play with a lighter touch and still maintain their feel (even with rimshots). The flip side of that is... if it's the kick drum that's too loud, that is 100% on the FOH guy. And that is most often the problem.

    Scott I have come to realize after watching many of your RUclips videos that you simply have the best sense of all things music than anyone I have ever listened to. Not crazy about some comments but thats my issue not yours. Thank you for spending all the time you do to help people out. I am going to buy me a Fluid guitar because of you!!

      Thanks much. Yeah, I've been pretty far out there over the years on some of the comments for sure. lol SOME is just me, a LOT more of it is not only little ticks from a couple of strokes, but recently being FINALLY diagnosed and treated for being bi polar....things are coming together a lot better these days. I'll leave all that old stuff up just to let me know where I've been. lol Thanks much.

    That shirt has me thinking you got a damn guitar on! Thanks for the info, Im becoming more immersed in my state's local music scene, and the "sound" people always have these 4 channel mixers for vocals only! At most of these clubs they dont mic everything! Ive been to a total of 2 bars where the sound guy knows what he's doing, everywhere else, it is not the case. . .people are surely not the brightest.

  • @stephenquail3168

    When I was gigging with my drums,I would always mic them up.its the difference between awesome and crap.The drums don't have to be any louder then they would be without the microphones .They come thru the mixer, and get mixed with all the other instruments .I used to use acoustic drums ,now I only play a Roland v drum set and I love it.

      +Steven Spencer LOL, I hear you. Us ancient dudes know that it was a REAL THING that was known world wide and all without it being printed in any article and without the Internet. It was just known by EVERYONE that you simply set PEAVEY gear like that to get it to sound like real sound systems. lol It would be great to have a T-Shirt made up with an old Peavey EQ that took up 6 spaces, have that smile set on it and that's all. Just see if ANYONE ever comes up to you and remembers what it was all about and laughs their asses off. lol

    Scott: I have a friend who says "There's nothing like the sound of Les Paul amped through a Marshall at full bore. Powerful and ballsy." I say I can take my MIM Stratocaster, amp it through my Fender Mustang III with emulation and blow the top off a concert hall with a gutsier, ballsier sound. I'd sure like to get your opinion on this. Is this worth a video? Your friend, Grritz

    • @groovydjs
      @groovydjs  8 лет назад

      +edhenninger Yeah, it is worthy and you are correct. HONESTLY, Marshall amps were never designed to be BALLSY. They have no bottom end, they are not FULL sounding nor pleasant sounding. The ONLY thing that they are famous for (Besides looking big in really old pictures) is that they have ONE SOUND and it is so irritating that it actually cuts through all of the good sounds happening in the mix and finds its place in a frequency peaked area that no other instrument would dare occupy. So, the Les Paul through the Marshall cranked on 10 is FAMOUS for doing just that. You hear them easily because of the nasty frequencies, not because of the nice frequencies.....but....that is exactly what is needed for concert style sound mixing requirements. Giving each instrument their own set of frequencies to cover that other instruments aren't taking up. So, the LP and Marshall just take care of that for everybody. They really sound HORRIBLE by themselves, but deliver that "Famous" sound (which sucks) right to the front of the mix and EVERYBODY knows that ear piercing sound very well and know right away what it is.....nasty as it is. lol It can be compared to the band KISS. Put them in a room with Pink Floyd, ABBA, Guns-n-Roses etc. you'll always be able to point out KISS in an instant. It's that horrible sounding thing that is like nothing else......and not really for a GOOD reason.

    • @edhenninger
      @edhenninger 8 лет назад

      +Groovy Music Lessons So, then, I'm not trying to get you to say the Mustang is a superior amp or whatever, but I'm wondering if you think all the talk about tube amps being superior is just a crock. I'm very happy with my Mustang III AND the fact that it can emulate other amps. And I'm just a bit tired of all those TOOB AMP guys say TOOB AMPS are so much better and "warmer" and far, far superior to solid state amps. As far as I'm concerned, TOOB AMPS are dinosaurs and appeal to some peope ONLY because they cost more and that makes THEM feel superior! Gawd damn! I believe you've had some things to say on this subject. Can you steer me to one of your videos dealing with this? Thanks.

    • @groovydjs
      @groovydjs  8 лет назад +1

      +edhenninger The MAJORITY of people will say to get a tube amp because that's what they heard someone say in a guitar forum by an 11 year old who heard it from a really old dude who used to follow Jimi Hendrix around to collect stool samples from him so that he could later decorate the poo and fire it in a kiln and then paint it as well. I did a BLIND TEST video between my Fender tube amp and my Wal-Mart solid state, little bitty amp. Everybody loved the sound of the Wal-Mart amp a LOT more....UNTIL I told them which was which. Then I was accused of TRYING to make the Fender sound bad and all kinds of other trickery. Nope, I dialed them in to sound their best and had to let folks trust those sounds just recorded on the camera's microphone. I did a blind test with guitars with humbuckers in them. So, Les Pauls, Explorers, other high end stuff and the guitar that won by A LOT was a Cort, Gene Simmons Axe 6-String guitar with the stock Mighty Mite Pickups. I did a blind test with acoustic guitar with the Martin, Taylor and other groovy acoustics and the winner was a $79.95 (list price) Silvertone Dark Star guitar made of particle board with Paul Stanley's picture on it (Stock). So.....VERY EASY TO SAY.......People on RUclips DON'T KNOW SHIT. lol Listen for what sounds to you, go with it and enjoy it. The more time you spend on the computer listening to people telling you that YOUR choices are wrong for YOU......you could be learning to play GREAT, record a little video with your "JUNK" and don't let them see what you were using until everybody starts with the comments...."KILLER TONE", Awesome sounding Pickups"...."Those tubes sound so WWWAAAAAAAAAAARRRMMM! lol

    • @groovydjs
      @groovydjs  5 лет назад +1

      I actually sold that amp....so....no more tube amps for me.....unless I find a Deluxe Reverb at a price I like. I like the 22 Tube Watts. Just the perfect amount to rip at gigs where a tube amp would be awesome, but really needs to be turned up to do it's NATURAL thing. Probably have to put a baffle around it when I mic it up.....but THAT sound will be there for an awesome blues and country amp.

      @@groovydjs I saw a video of Joe Bonamassa, where he had built some plexiglass shields to cut some sound. What you were saying about managing stage volume makes good sense. I'm having some hearing problems out of one of my ears, which is not good for someone who plays a lot of music. Keep on rocking Scott!!!

    I'm sure some folks are aware that Carvin makes 21" speakers for some of their subs. I want to remind some of you older dudes when you first saw 30" speakers. Electro Voice's version was the first one I saw when I was younger: www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/649235338-electro-voice-30w-30-inch-woofer/images/1090491/

    goodness knows, the worst band I ever saw missed one basic tip. Tune the instruments with each other. When the guitar and bass played low notes in unison, there this horrible beat note that made the whole audience cringe.
