  • Building curved drawers is challenging. See how these curved drawers are built for the hanging tool chest. These drawers are for storing the smaller hand tools at the workbench.
The drawers are made from maple with a plywood bottom. The front of the drawers are curved to match the curved drawer gallery. Building square drawers with a curved front takes some extra care and planning to ensure they're built well and accurate.
The process for building curved drawers is:
    - cut and shape the exterior drawer face from thick stock (see episode 4 • Curved Drawer Fronts -... )
    - fit the drawer fronts into the drawer gallery openings (see episode 4 • Curved Drawer Fronts -... )
    - 0:34 cut the joinery in the drawer front for the sides
    - 2:57 cut the curve on the back of the drawer fronts to match the front curve
    - 4:09 smooth the back of the curved drawer fronts
    - 5:05 measure and cut the drawer sides to fit each drawer gallery opening
    - 5:41 dry fit the front and sides to take accurate dimensions for the back
    - 7:08 cut the joinery for the drawer back
    - 7:45 mark and cut a dado for the drawer bottom
    - cut the drawer bottom to the correct width, but leave extra at the front
    - 9:33 dry fit the drawer sides, back, and bottom to mark the front curve of the drawer bottom
    - 9:57 cut the curve in the drawer bottom
    - dry fit all the drawer parts and adjust if needed
    - 10:25 glue up the drawer and clamp it
    - 13:25 once the glue is dried, us a hand plane to adjust the drawer fit in the drawer gallery
    - 16:55 attach temporary drawer pulls so the drawers can be removed once the tool chest back is attached

I like your No 3 plane your grandfather passed on a fine plane. This is the first time I’ve seen one in action I think it would be a good tool for my box making pleasure. I’ll be keeping my eye out for one.
The cabinet looks like it’s coming along great.
    Good Luck Scott

I like how you explain through your videos. Even with the corrections to fit the drawer. I'm curious why you like to pay extra for the Woodpecker square and ruler. Were the free from Woodpecker to use in the videos. As always, you present good videos.
