A bunch of tutorials on The Yamaha EAD10 here (how to add 5 triggers, tuning & muffling of the drums, placement of drums and using “a shield”, pitching the samples in the EAD10 to work with your drums & lots of sound samples) ✌🏻🤩

You are a very helpful resource. I am thinking about getting an ead 10 and your videos are the best examples and tutorials of its potential. Great drumming too!

Yes I had the same experience when I bought mine, I had a lot of questions but couldn’t find the answers. So I decided to do something about it 😅😂
With that said I must also (proudly) say that I think I really got a good sound out of it, haven’t seen any other videos with the same quality. That’s why I also did the dampening video, I thing that’s really important. I ought to do a video on placement of drums also, and the use of “shields” to avoid bleed from the cymbals. I changed my kit quiet a bit to accommodate the Ead, and I also have a small stack between the ride and the ead to avoid bleed. I don’t play it, it’s there only as a “noise-shield” 👍🏻

Check this video and you will see two stacks over my kick-drum, the small is the shield so I can play the larger on top and the ride without them taking over the sound 👍🏻

Hi! Shout out from a small town in the extreme north of Brazil. Quick questions for you: do the triggers work without the mics from the kick drum box (the on that comes with the module)? Having all those tiggers allow you to emulate sounds from legendary recordings? I mean, if I’d have a sample from Chad smith (Red hot chilli peppers drummer) could I upload it to the module to put the tuning of the tons and snare on my drums? The last question is related to the first one: if I have triggers on the snare and tons, would I need to have the mics working in order to have sounds coming out of the tons and snare? Or I could tuning them separately and have the sounds coming out even without the mics of the drum kick ?

Hi There! Shout out back from a small town in the east of Sweden ✌🏻
And to your questions (if I miss something or show that I didn’t understand then just ask again).
I have personally never used the EAD10 with just the triggers and disconnecting the microphones. But I don’t see why it couldn’t be done. The EAD10 recording box that you place on the bass drum have two outputs: one for the triggers part and one for the microphones. So if you just don’t plug in the microphones, then the system should still sound/record but with only the triggers. And yes I’ve connected 5 extra triggers (apart from the built in trigger in the bass-drum module - so 6 triggers in total), but I have never imported any samples to the EAD10, but from what I understand you can import samples through the USB-port.
I only use the ones that’s already in the EAD10. I do however change them (pitching/tuning them up/down), and I build my own presets, which is to say I go through the whole sound bank and choose the drum samples I like and build my drum kit presets from that (so I don’t really use the preinstalled presets).
Hoped that helped, if not then just keep asking ✌🏻🤩
      , John

I gotta ask man! Were all those kits in this video built into the ead?

    • @flowerlandofjohn
      @flowerlandofjohn  Год назад +1

Yes. But I do my own presets from the samples in the EAD10. I chose toms from one preset, kick from another, snare from a third etc. And I play around with different reverbs and effects.
But: the EAD10 isn’t a magic box. You still need to have a good sounding kit - and I do use 5 extra triggers!
I’ve done a bunch of tutorials on the EAD10 which I think is essential for my sound: check them out ✌🏻🤩

Hey John! First of all, congratulations for great content!
    Let me ask 3 things…
    1) my bass drum trigger, is not working…only as a mic but not as a trigger, what I maybe set wrong?
    2) I use 2 chimbals, and one of than, is louder than the other one…the same happen with the crashes…
    3) it’s possible on my daw, for exemple, reaper, capture de midi signal to be possible to add some drums samples on the mix?
Thanks a lot for your attention!

    • @flowerlandofjohn
      @flowerlandofjohn  3 года назад +1

Thanks, I certainly try to give it my best 🤩🙏🏻
      1. Usual problem can be that it’s not attached properly. It needs to be all the way in to the edge of the hoop (and if you have hoops that’s not a solid rectangular form [there are ones with like a carved channel in the middle], then you need to attach the “stickers” that come with the package.
Regarding settings you of course need to check the gain-input signals in the motherboard. Is there still no signal even if you have the gain on max?
… be sure to check that the right cord goes to the right input also (A to A and B to B)
      2. With the EAD10 you need to place drums and cymbals so that they don’t get to close to the mic for good balance. I had to move my ride-cymbal about 50cm to get a good sound. But you can also pan the gain in the sub-menu where you check the gain from the mic and triggers. If you go to that menu and press one page down you can choose to get more gain from either the right or the left side of the kit. So if you have the problem with too much sound from one side, then decrease the gain from that side …
      3. What does “Daw” & “Reaper” mean?
Hmm, well there is midi output, don’t know about input. You can absolutely connect digital drums to the machine, but I’ve only used the existing sounds. So I don’t have a good answer for this one 😅
Hope that helped, but feel free to ask more and I will see if I can help 🤩

Personally I also use triggers on all the drums for more “even sound”. Makes it much more fat, but still with a decent live-feel 👍🏻

And also try to “shield the microphone” in the EAD10. If you check my latest upload for instance you can see that I have a 12” trash stack just above the kick drum and under the ride. That is mainly to act as an shield to block the ride signal to go straight into the EAD10. So such tricks can also be used for good balance…

@@flowerlandofjohn thanks a looooot for al the tips and attention!
      I will try that ASAP!
DAW is digital audio workspace, and Reaper is the brand that I use, is like Pro Tools/Cubase/Logic.
My doubt is, if I can capture the output sound in one track, and if in the other track, I can capture the midi signal that will came from the triggers.
      Thanks again John!

@@flowerlandofjohn Awesome! That’s what I wanted to know before purchasing. Really cool that you can adjust tunings. I was concerned with having the pitches not line up with what is coming through the microphone. And yes, I watched your video. I had never thought about putting those e-rings inside the toms. I don’t like those things on the top heads, but I bet my sound team would love not having to gate me as much by dampening the bottom head like that. Seems like a win-win I am looking forward to trying! Thanks
