Thank you Jim. I have very much enjoyed your new Viking videos. We are heading out on the Oasis next week and we will be thinking of you when we go to the Solarium.
Thanks Jim, great video! I just hope Polaris is ready in time for our February 2023 Antarctic cruise. We booked it while we were on our February 2020 Northern Lights cruise on the Star, before the world shut down. That seems ages ago now.
Excellent info ... I watched 3 of the Viking expedition pieces and am impressed. Like the small ship, opportunity to get out onto the ocean without having to climb down rope ladders / get into small boats! Want to do Asian cruising ... will check your videos and Viking too.
We are scheduled in cabin 4028 later this year, so your review was especially interesting. Hopefully our cabin will be far enough from the elevators that the "ding" won't be a problem! 🙂
@@JimZim We have an opportunity to move to cabin 4043. Much farther from the elevators, though right next to a set of stairs. Should be quieter and more out of the way.
Very good move on your part. I'm glad that I was able to help! Once you're onboard... every time you hear the ding of the elevators, you can laugh and think of me!
Jim, my wife and I are going on this cruise, on this ship, at the end of December. Can you give some advice on what clothing to bring? I see that Viking provides a parka, snow pants and boots. Should we just bring a sweatshirt or light jacket, and long pants, otherwise? Or will there be colder times when the parka is inappropriate or not yet available? I assume we should also leave room in our luggage to take the Viking clothes home with us?
Nice cabin tours. You didn't happen to get a look at either cabin 4024 or 4025 did you? I'm curious about how they differ from 4027 for wheelchair access.
Interesting! I had not noticed that when I was in the room, but looking back at the video now... I see what you're seeing. It does look to me like a wireless charger built in to the surface of that nightstand.
@@JimZim Thanks for your reply. I've seen the Viking Octantis from all sides as it comes into Duluth. I don't see a single balcony. All the cabins (including those in your video) appear to have a solid pane of immovable glass. Am I missing something?
Ah, sorry... I should have explained that better. The Pearl Mist is the only ship (that I'm aware of) currently sailing the Great Lakes that has a traditional balcony for every cabin. The two Viking ships have what is known as a "Nordic Balcony". To see an explanation of what a Nordic Balcony is all about, take a look at this video: ruclips.net/video/kAIPXKORsUI/видео.html
@@JimZim Thanks Jim - that is helpful. My wife wants to sail the Great Lakes and part of an enjoyable cruise for me is sitting on the (traditional) balcony with a coffee or beer and while entering/leaving a port city.
Viking is extra special, but not cheap. We cruised from New York around the Caribbean via Bermuda x 14 days just before the pandemic on Viking Sea and had a amazing holiday. The only thing we would improve was the entertainment and activities which seemed more suitable for the older passengers.
They probably will. Wasn't this the first cruise on the ship? There's always going to be teething problems, so hopefully they got feedback and will fix it.
To be honest, the bathroom is great. But it's really just a standard Norwegian style bathroom. Heated floors are mandatory. Not by law, but because everyone who lives here just really likes them, and can afford them. The tiles and furnishings are definitively upscale, but there's not a singular item there that would be out of place in my apartment. Which seems to be Viking's style, now that I think about it: Do everything properly, and with quality.
There's a place called entrainment junction in Winchester Ohio it is we're million,s of mode train,s run in mode city's code you make a video about it .it is cool. I have been there before it is nice thanks
I don't know if "copying" is the right way to describe it. Yes, I think it's basically the same concept. But I'm not sure that it's that someone at Viking saw the infinite veranda on Celebrity and said "we've got to steal that idea!" In the shipbuilding business, I think there may be designers and shipyards that present ideas to multiple cruise lines about things that are possible. It may just be that both Viking and Celebrity took someone up on their business proposition.
Actually european has a taste to a real Luxury. And innovation compare to american .but anyways most of this ships are mde in european country . My dad has been working in expedition cruise of happaglloyd . Even the world expediton most of them are designed well that was few yrs ago what about now new generation of expedition cruise ships

All the details are good!
We are scheduled in cabin 4028 later this year, so your review was especially interesting. Hopefully our cabin will be far enough from the elevators that the "ding" won't be a problem! 🙂
I think you'll hear the elevator dings from 4028. It's only one cabin further down the hall from the cabin we were in.
@@JimZim We have an opportunity to move to cabin 4043. Much farther from the elevators, though right next to a set of stairs. Should be quieter and more out of the way.
@@JimZim A cabin farther away was available, so we moved. I'm glad I saw this review!

Nice video! But the sound quality sounds weird.
Sounds fine to me
Things feel normal again seeing Jim Zim cruise videos!
Thanks for your recommendations!
OMG this looks amazing. Might need to win lotto though.
great video
It’s a beautiful ship!
More to see Claudia❤

I am definitely the wrong guy to answer Antarctica cruise questions, as our cruise on this ship was in the Caribbean.
Sorry!
Yes, of course. Sorry for not reading more carefully.
Great video
Thx
Cost too much but I love it!!!
Maybe carnival cruise could come to Great Lakes soon
I enjoyed this video. Why did the Audio sound so bad?

Sorry... no, I did not.
@@JimZim no worries. It was a long shot question.
And it looks like a Qi charger on the nightstand surface at 4:15. Or is that a reflection from above?

@@JimZim Nice video anyways, saving up for one of those trips
Do any of the ships sailing the Great Lakes have balconies?
Viking Octantis, Viking Polaris, and Pearl Mist sail the Great Lakes... and all three ships have balconies on every cabin.

It sounds like Pearl Mist is the way for you to go then.

You’d think they’d have changed out the elevator ding to a softer sound, seems like an easy thing to fix

Did they copy Celebrity's infinite verandah?

@@JimZim A simple yes would have sufficed.
